Kate Hudson rejected stepdad Kurt Russell's movie Escape from LA to avoid nepotism accusations

Kate Hudson turned down a role in her stepdad Kurt Russell's movie Escape from LA as she didn't want to be 'defined' by nepotism.
The 46-year-old star has recalled how she declined the opportunity to star with Kurt in the 1996 film because she didn't want outsiders to think that she only got the part due to her family connections.
Speaking at the Newport Beach TV Fest, Kate – whose mother is actress Goldie Hawn – said: 'I went in and auditioned and got that part, and I sort of realised, 'Oh, this is when you start to make choices that will define your career.' And, 'Do I want to be defined by being Kurt's daughter who got this part? No.'
'(It doesn't) matter if I got it because I was good enough – it would never be what people would ever think. And I knew that and was like, 'No, I can't.' So I ended up saying no to that, too.'
Kate revealed that she wanted to be an actress from a young age and detailed how her passion stemmed from being on her stepfather's movie sets as a child.
The Running Point star said: 'My dad's sets were the fun sets. It was like Big Trouble in Little China and we had slides that would go down into rubber fish, and these amazing costumes.
'And the thing is, when you grow up on a movie set, it's not that fun. (There) is a lot of waiting around, so you realise you really love it when you don't want to get off the movie set.'
Hudson added: 'Performing was always something I knew I was going to do.
'There was never a question, but really falling in love with the circus was something that I don't think all kids actually have when they're on a set.'
While Kate got the acting bug at an early age, she is unsure whether her sons – Ryder, 21, and Bingham, 13, whom she has with former partners Chris Robinson and Matt Bellamy respectively – feel the same way, although matters are different for her daughter Rani, six, who she has with her fiance Danny Fujikawa.

Jeremy Renner ‘handcuffed to the bed' to stop hospital escapes

Bang Showbiz | Los Angeles Jeremy Renner has revealed he had to be "handcuffed to the bed" to stop him from escaping the hospital after his near-fatal snowplough accident. The Hawkeye star, 54, suffered over 30 broken bones, a lacerated liver, and a collapsed lung in January 2023 when he was run over by his own snowplough. Despite his critical injuries, Renner admitted he was 'probably the worst patient ever' due to his repeated attempts to leave the hospital prematurely. Speaking on Jimmy Kimmel Live! with guest host Jelly Roll, Renner said: 'Oh, yeah — that's because I kept wanting to break out of the hospital. So these poor nurses, you can imagine, I'm kind of high on whatever they're feeding me. I got tubes and epidurals and nine things stuck in me — I'm dragging the machines in the bed. I'm walking on broken legs. I never even made it to the door but once, but they handcuffed me to the bed.' Once discharged, Renner's recovery at home came with another set of challenges — including intense hallucinations from the medication. 'That was at home… and yeah, that's when you know you're not feeling any pain,' he shared. Among the hallucinations: a full imaginary day spent with fellow actor Jamie Foxx. 'I was talking to objects and Jamie Foxx. He was there in my room. Then we got up and we went snowmobiling. All that happened in my mind. It didn't happen. It's good drugs,' Renner joked.

Jennifer Love Hewitt felt ‘anxious' about I Know What You Did Last Summer return

Bang Showbiz | Los Angeles Jennifer Love Hewitt admits she felt anxious about how fans would react to her return in the new I Know What You Did Last Summer movie. The 46-year-old actress reprises her iconic role as Julie James in the latest installment of the horror franchise — but she says she was hesitant at first. 'All of my friends had to talk me into it,' she told Vulture. 'Literally up until the last night before shooting, they were like, 'You know you're going tomorrow, right?'' Hewitt first played the role in the original 1997 film, but returning decades later brought new concerns — mainly about aging in the public eye. 'What people were going to say about how much older I would seem than when I was 18 — that's literally the only thing I was anxious about,' she admitted. She also revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that she initially questioned the purpose of bringing Julie back. 'I was hesitant at first. I wanted to make sure that she fit into the movie in the right way and that there was a reason for her to come back besides just the '90s nostalgia moment,' she said. 'I wanted her part in the movie to matter and for the audience to feel like they were proud of who she has become.' Jennifer said she was happy with how her character evolved. 'She's exactly who I thought she would be and who I wanted her to be, honestly.' Interestingly, she didn't want Julie to appear fully healed from past traumas. 'As weird as it sounds, it was really important for me to not see a Julie James that had healed her trauma. She needed to stay in trauma... so this version of her feels right.' Despite playing the same character, Jennifer said it felt like stepping into a new role. 'What's beautiful about this movie is that she feels like the same person from the original movie, but she also feels like a new character in some ways because of all the time that's gone by.' To prepare, she rewatched the original — this time with her kids. 'It was my kids' first horror movie. They really wanted to watch it together... so it was really fun and exciting and interesting to go back and watch that girl on the road that night.'

Heidi Klum ‘doesn't worry about age-shaming'

Bang Showbiz | Los Angeles Heidi Klum thinks society has become 'more welcoming of wrinkles'. The 52-year-old model has suggested that attitudes towards ageing have changed in recent years, observing that it's now 'okay to be older'. Heidi told People: 'I feel like we're more welcoming of wrinkles and rolls on our body. Being accepted at every age is amazing. That we've changed and come all that way.' Heidi doesn't have any fears of 'age-shaming or body-shaming'. She shared: 'For me to be older, it doesn't matter. I don't have this age-shaming or body-shaming thing. I feel like everyone should do what they want to do. I like to run around sexy — even now at 52.' Heidi actually loves posting sexy photos of herself on social media. The model suggested that she's been posting so-called thirst traps since before social media was invented. She said: 'I've been photographing nude or in lingerie since 1992, way before Instagram. 'So for me, it's nothing new. For the past 15 years, other people are now doing what I've been doing for 30 years. Instead of being in my little bottoms in a magazine, I'm on Instagram. It's the same thing.' The model has also encouraged other women to not 'hide' once they reach 50. She said: 'The biggest misconception [about] being in your 50s is that you are off the shelf. You're not off the shelf. We are very much on that shelf for everyone to see. 'Don't hide in your 50s. Beauty is ever- changing, and I'm here for the change. If it's always the same, life is boring.'
