Extraordinary moment former Premier League boss is told 'F*** YOU' by his own player in feisty Club World Cup spat - before SHUSHING riled-up star when his substitution paid off moments later

Daily Mail21-06-2025
A former Premier League manager was caught in an astonishing X-rated spat with his own player after the star reacted furiously to being substituted at the Club World Cup on Friday.
Benfica boss Bruno Lage, who previously managed Wolves between 2021 and 2022 in the Premier League, guided his side to a 6-0 win over New Zealand outfit Auckland City — but victory was overshadowed by an extraordinary row on the touchline midway through the second half.
In the 62nd minute, with his side 2-0 ahead thanks to goals from Angel Di Maria and Vangelis Pavlidis, Lage opted to shuffle his pack and substituted midfield stalwart Orkun Kokcu for former Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain star Renato Sanches.
Furious with his manager's decision, the Turkish midfielder left the pitch in a sulk and refused to shake Lage's hand, a gesture which is often performed between a player and his coach before heading for the substitutes' bench.
According to Portuguese outlet A Bola, Kokcu shouted 'f*** you' in Lage's direction as the row intensified, before reluctantly taking his seat alongside team-mates in the dugout.
Lage angrily told his player to be quiet by shushing him in response.

Moments later, to the manager's delight, substitute Sanches scored to put Benfica three ahead, and the 49-year-old coach could not resist taking a stab at Kokcu.
Lage went over to say a few words to the player, covering his mouth with his hand. It is claimed he was telling Kokcu that he a good nose for the game.
Visibly angered by his manager's words and actions, the 24-year-old leapt to his feet and scolded Lage, raising his index finger with a furious facial expression.
In response, the Portuguese manager again put his finger to his mouth and shushed Kokcu, who needed to be held back by team-mate Kerem Akturkoglu as he went to leave the bench.
Benfica went on to win the match 6-0, with Leandro Barreiro scoring twice and Di Maria netting his second penalty of the game deep into injury time.
After the match, Lage addressed the furious row and explained why he hooked Kokcu off midway through the second half.
'Orkun Kokcu wanted to win and score more goals, but we decided that Renato should come on,' he said.
'Regardless of the players' form, I make the decisions. In the last game, we started with Renato, and Kokcu came on later and helped us. That's how it was today, too.'
'I saw the behavior of a consistently professional athlete. That was a unique experience.
After the game, Lage admitted the midfielder's reaction and behaviour was out of character
'He has always behaved very well both on and off the field. He has the desire to help the team.
'I make the decisions I have to make, no matter who it is. I've proven that many times. I look at the player's current situation and make my decisions calmly.'

Kansas City Chiefs heiresses Ava and Gracie Hunt flaunt expensive gameday outfits as NFL preseason kicks off

Kansas City Chiefs heiresses Ava and Gracie Hunt are ready for another season of football as they showed off their expensive gameday outfits during the start of the NFL 2025 preseason. The two are known for their enviable wardrobes, which consist of designer labels like Louis Vuitton, Christian Louboutin and Chanel. On Saturday, the Chiefs faced off in a preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals, which they lost by three points, the final score coming in at 20-17. But even with the loss, the Hunt ladies, whose dad is Chiefs owner Clark Hunt, were excited to get things moving again as they took to their respective Instagram pages to share some snaps from the day. Gracie, 26, started off her carousel by posting a photo of herself standing on the football field. She rocked a red knit set by designer Retrofête, which featured a $198 skirt with white scalloped detailing and gold buttons, along with a matching $198 halter top. Gracie topped off the gameday look with a pair of nude, Rockstud pumps from Valentino, which retail for $1,150. The influencer also included a few snaps with her family taken on the field, including mom Tavia Hunt, who was also decked out in Chiefs red for the game. 'CHIEFS FOOTBALL IS BACK!' Gracie wrote in the caption of her Instagram post. 'Grateful for a new season, the chance to chase dreams, and the beautiful game that brings us all together. Matthew 25:21. What game are you most excited about this season?' her message continued. Gracie's little sister, Ava, 20, who is a sophomore at Southern Methodist University in Texas, also shared snaps from the day on Instagram. She posed on the field wearing what appeared to be a $395 white leather mini dress by designer Alice + Olivia, which she paired with brown wedges. Ava shared similar family photos as her sister, and also included a video of the team warming up on the field. 'Football season is back! How we feelin' Chiefs Kingdom,' she typed in the caption. Last year, the team made it to the Super Bowl for the third year in a row, but ultimately lost to the Philadelphia Eagles. They took home the Lombardi trophy in 2024 and 2023. Gracie sported a pair of Valentino heels over $1,000 and a knit red halter top by designer Retrofête The team's star tight end is Travis Kelce, who is dating superstar Taylor Swift. Ava and Gracie come from a prominent family that is worth an estimated $20.5 billion, according to Forbes, and enjoy quite the opulent lifestyle that would give many A-listers a run for their money. Last year, Ava showcased some of the many pluses to her dad owning the Kansas City team - getting to mingle with pop sensation Taylor. Ava posted a picture that showed her and the Cruel Summer songstress posing together at the Chiefs game against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. The blonde beauties, both decked out in Chiefs gear, pressed their heads together as they smiled up at the camera. Taylor draped her arm lovingly over Ava's shoulder and clutched onto an enormous purple gift in her other hand, which contained a note that said, 'To: Taylor. From: The Hunt Family.' The sweet snap quickly went viral and only launched Ava even further into social media stardom.

Guinea name Duarte as new national coach

CONAKRY, Aug 11 (Reuters) - Well-travelled Portuguese coach Paulo Duarte has been named as Guinea's new coach, less than a month before their next round of World Cup qualifiers. Duarte, 56, has twice previously coached Burkina Faso and taken charge of Gabon and Togo, while also coaching at clubs in Portugal, France, Tunisia, Angola and Saudi Arabia. Guinea's football federation gave no contract details when they made the announcement on Monday, but said they would be looking for Duarte to 'restructure their national team'. Guinea trail leaders Algeria by eight points in their World Cup qualifying group with four games remaining, leaving them with only a slim chance of qualification. They play Somalia away on September 5 and then Algeria at home on September 8 in their next two qualifiers although a stadium ban means Guinea have moved their home game to Casablanca, Morocco.

Revealed: Alejandro Garnacho's 'message' to Man United amid Chelsea's interest in £50m-rated exile

Alejandro Garnacho has delivered a message to Manchester United amid Chelsea 's interest in the £50million-rated outcast. The Argentine, who was placed in Ruben Amorim's five-man 'bomb squad' at the start of the summer alongside fellow exiles Jadon Sancho, Antony, Marcus Rashford and Tyrell Malacia, is seeking an escape from Old Trafford ahead of what promises to be a season permanently on the sidelines. Garnacho was told by Amorim to find a new club in May, after the winger was unhappy to start on the bench in the Europa League final. Daily Mail Sport reported on Sunday that Garnacho has now set his mind on a move to Chelsea, with the Blues holding a strong interest in the 21-year-old exile. The Red Devils, who initially wanted £70m for Garnacho, have reduced their asking price to £50m in the hope of securing his exit. According to Fabrizio Romano, Garnacho has told United to arrange his departure to Chelsea or he will sit on the bench for the next six to 12 months. Chelsea have also entered talks with RB Leipzig over a potential swap deal for Xavi Simons It is understood the Blues' hierarchy have no concerns over his character after doing their homework. In total, Garnacho has played 144 games for Manchester United and scored 26 goals, while providing 22 assists. He won the FA Cup with United in the 2023-24 campaign and the EFL Cup in the previous season. Meanwhile, Chelsea have also entered talks with RB Leipzig over a potential swap deal for Xavi Simons, as per The Guardian. The deal would see Chelsea misfit Christopher Nkunku, who enjoyed a fruitful spell with the Bundesliga club before joining the Blues, move in the other direction.
