‘Big Mistake': Trump goes after Senator Tillis for rejecting 'Big Beautiful' tax bill

In a lengthy post on Truth Social, Trump accused Tillis of offering Americans 'a 68% Tax Increase, as opposed to the Biggest Tax Cut in American History,' and claimed the senator 'is unable to understand the importance of a Debt Extension, which Republicans gave to the Democrats just prior to the November 5th Election.' Trump argued that Democrats 'probably won't reciprocate' because 'they're nasty people who actually hate our Country.

Trump has imposed 4 July deadline for Congress to deliver the mega‑bill to his desk. Trump singled out Tillis despite two other GOP senators—Ron Johnson of Wisconsin and Rand Paul of Kentucky, who also withheld support during the rare weekend session. With Republicans holding a 53‑47 majority, the party can afford to lose only three votes before Vice‑President JD Vance would be required to break a tie.
Trump's Truth Social post listed key goals of the bill, including making his 2017 tax cuts permanent, ending taxes on tips, overtime, and Social Security, boosting border security, strengthening the military, and supporting farmers and manufacturers.
He criticized Tillis for opposing these measures and accused him of abandoning North Carolina's tobacco industry while supporting expensive, Chinese-made windmills.
Tillis has maintained he will oppose the package unless it includes the Medicaid changes he supported in an earlier House‑passed version. "The Senate version of the One Big Beautiful bill contains significant changes to Medicaid that would be devastating to North Carolina, and I cannot support it", Tillis posted on X.

The bill's massive scope requires raising the debt ceiling by roughly $5 trillion—another flashpoint Trump says is critical 'for the future of the USA.' He warned fellow Republicans that a 'no' vote would be an 'ultimate betrayal.'
Trump also hinted at political retaliation, writing that 'numerous people have come forward wanting to run in the Primary against 'Senator Thom' Tillis,' and promising to meet prospective challengers 'over the coming weeks.'
The nearly 940-page bill was unveiled late Friday night. Senate debate is set to continue over the weekend, with several amendments and votes still to come. If approved by the Senate, the bill will head back to the House of Representatives for a final vote before it can be sent to Trump at the White House.

The monthlong celebration of LGBTQ Pride reaches its rainbow-laden crescendo as New York and other major cities around the world host major parades and marches on Sunday. Chicago, Seattle, Minneapolis and Toronto, Canada are among the other major North American cities hosting Pride parades on Sunday.(REUTERS) The festivities in Manhattan, home to the nation's oldest and largest Pride celebration, kick off with a march down Fifth Avenue featuring more than 700 participating groups and expected huge crowds. Marchers will wind past the Stonewall Inn, a Greenwich Village gay bar where a 1969 police raid triggered protests and fired up the LGBTQ rights movement. The site is now a national monument. In San Francisco, marchers in another of the world's largest Pride events will head down the city's central Market Street, reaching concert stages set up at the Civic Center Plaza. Rahul Gandhi condoles Puri deaths, seeks probe into stampede
New Delhi: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Sunday condoled the deaths in the Puri stampede, describing the incident a 'serious warning' on the lapses in security and crowd management during the Rath Yatra. He also demanded punishment for the guilty. 'The stampede incident during the Rath Yatra in Puri is extremely tragic. I express my deep condolences to the bereaved families and hope for the speedy recovery of the injured devotees,' wrote Gandhi on X. 'I appeal to the Odisha government to expedite relief efforts and urge Congress workers to provide every possible assistance in this regard,' he said. Pointing an accusing finger at the BJP government in Odisha, he said, 'This tragedy is a serious warning – for such large events, security arrangements and crowd management preparations must be taken seriously and thoroughly reviewed. Protecting lives is paramount, and no lapses in this responsibility are acceptable.' At least three devotees were killed while six others are undergoing treatment at the hospital, till reports last came in. The stampede occurred between 4 a.m. and 4.30 a.m. on Sunday, according to Odisha officials. Following the stampede, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi extended an apology to the devotees of Lord Jagannath on Sunday and ordered an immediate investigation into the security lapses. Earlier, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge joined Gandhi in sympathising with the victims' kin and demanded a probe into 'negligence and mismanagement' behind the incident. Kharge wrote on X, 'The State Government and authorities must conduct a thorough investigation into the grave lapses that caused this incident. Ensuring public safety and effective crowd management is paramount, especially during pre-planned festivities. Those responsible for this tragedy must be held accountable under the law.' The Congress President said, 'I am deeply pained by the stampede during the Mahaprabhu Jagannath Rath Yatra, which claimed three lives and injured at least 50 people. This tragedy follows reports of 500 devotees being injured on Friday during the yatra.' 'My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims. I wish a speedy recovery to all the injured devotees. The negligence and mismanagement that led to this tragedy are inexcusable,' he said. The Congress stands in solidarity with the devotees and commits to supporting all efforts to provide relief, medical assistance, and aid to the affected families, he said.
