Will other Bengals join Ja'Marr Chase on top 25 under-25 lists soon?

USA Today4 hours ago

The Cincinnati Bengals continue to feature prominently on top 25 NFL players 25 and under lists.
A 2025 edition of the list comes from CBS Sports' Cody Benjamin, who outright has Ja'Marr Chase topping the entire NFL in this category:
'Chase's former LSU teammate Justin Jefferson topped this list a year ago. It's only right the Bengals star claims the crown for himself. Freshly rewarded with a long-term deal in Cincinnati, No. 1 is the only wideout to rival Jefferson in sheer big-play spectacle, leading all receivers in catches (127), yards (1,708) and touchdowns (17) to close his fourth season. Joe Burrow slinging the rock certainly helps, but Chase is capable of taking any pass to the house at any time. He and Burrow make the Bengals -- if not contenders, then spectacular showmen.'

The Bengals are starting to age out of these lists just a little, with Tee Higgins 26 years old and Joe Burrow 28.
But the fact Chase has climbed all the way up to No. 1 after his Triple Crown triumph isn't all that shocking.
Looking ahead, the Bengals would love if Shermar Stewart makes this type of list one year from now, provided he gets on the field and starts developing soon. Ditto for 2024 first-round pick Amarius Mims, who is still just 22, while 2023 first-round pick Myles Murphy is still just 23.

Patriots owner Robert Kraft 'very excited' after 'worst years' of ownership

The New England Patriots made sweeping changes to their organization in 2025 for the second consecutive offseason. Patriots owner Robert Kraft acknowledged those changes were necessary as New England looks to become a contender again. "The last two years were the worst years of my 31 years of ownership," Kraft said in a discussion with ESPN's Adam Schefter at Fanatics Fest over the weekend. "We have to change that." The Patriots posted a combined 8-26 record over the last two seasons and have changed coaches after each campaign. A 4-13 finish to the 2023 season cost franchise legend Bill Belichick his job, while Jerod Mayo was made a one-and-done coach after posting the same mark in 2024. Kraft believes new coach Mike Vrabel will be able to achieve better results and stabilize the franchise. He credited Vrabel as being "really connected with the players" and "doing great work" over his first six months with the team. Kraft also expressed confidence in the offseason moves the Patriots made to fortify their roster. He lauded the team for landing "a lot of great veterans" and bringing in a strong draft class to supplement those big-money acquisitions. NFL COACHING HOT SEAT: Brian Daboll, Mike McDaniel, NFL coaches facing pressure in 2025 The Patriots spent heavily to make the roster upgrades Kraft deemed necessary. New England doled out more than $360.8 million with its free agent contracts, per That was by far the most in the league and $95.2 million more than the second-highest spenders, the Minnesota Vikings. Thanks to those improvements, Kraft believes New England is on the right track. That has left him "very excited about the upcoming season." "We're gonna have fun this year," he said. "I promise."

Terron Armstead raved about Jared Verse again but named one thing that 'wasn't that good'

Armstead has a ton of respect for Verse, and also some high expectations Terron Armstead retired from the NFL this offseason after 12 years in the league, earning Pro Bowl honors five times. After calling it a career, he talked about which players made his decision to retire easier. He immediately mentioned Jared Verse, who he only faced once in 2024 but the rookie left a lasting impression. Armstead praised Verse once again during an interview on the 'Rich Eisen Show' on Tuesday, mentioning the Rams star when asked who the 'future of the league' is at pass rusher. Along with Verse, Armstead also picked Aidan Hutchinson. Here's what he said about Verse and his superhuman strength – something Armstead hasn't seen before from a pass rusher. 'Jared Verse, I'm very loud about what I believe he will be able to do,' Armstead said. 'The boy is strong. It's different. Different level of strength. It is. I don't know exactly what it is, because he's not the biggest. I played James Harrison and Justin Smith. Very strong humans. Jared Verse has something different with his power.' Before even going up against the rookie pass rusher, Armstead knew about his remarkable power just by watching film. He could see Verse running linemen over, so he was preparing for some ferocious bull rushes when the Rams and Dolphins squared off in Week 10 last season. 'I saw it on film,' Armstead said. 'We're preparing for the Rams – big game for us, too, because we were kind of going through a rough patch in the season, and the Rams were heating up as they made their playoff push – and I'm watching the film and he is running people over. Not just knocking people back, he is running them over on his way to the quarterback. So, the first series against the Rams, I'm like, I'm excited to see – I need to see what this power's about. The first series, he did a bull rush, we passed the ball, think we got a first down and I'm laughing because it was like, 'Yo, that's funny that he pushed me back like that.' It was funny. It was interesting to see, like, this is different. I've seen it on film, so the rest of the game, I'm trying to get on him quick, I don't want to let him get started. He has a pop that is just different. It's hard to explain. You'll see more of it this year.' As for Verse's ceiling, Armstead sees a lot of room for growth. His bull rush is his go-to move, but if Verse can develop some counters and improve his hand usage, Armstead believes he can get even better. There is one thing that 'wasn't that good' when Armstead faced Verse: his get-off. But even still, Armstead believes Verse will be a future Defensive Player of the Year. 'I feel that strongly,' he continued. 'I feel as he continues to craft his game, to get more off the bullrush, some hand swipes, things that look like a bullrush all the way up until the end and he avoids and goes around. His get-off wasn't that good, so it's still so many things for him to build into his game. I can see him being Defensive Player of the Year.' Dan Le Batard thinks Shannon Sharpe is done at ESPN after bombshell sexual assault scandal

The Shannon Sharpe era at ESPN is all but over. That's what Dan Le Batard speculated Tuesday following the Pro Football Hall of Famer's bombshell sexual assault scandal that rocked the sports world this spring, when Sharpe was accused of rape in a $50 million civil lawsuit and subsequently stepped away from the worldwide leader. 'I guess we probably all know at this point that Shannon Sharpe is not likely to ever work at ESPN again, right?' Le Batard, a former ESPN host, said on 'The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz' when discussing Max Kellerman's upcoming broadcast return to Netflix for the Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford fight. 4 Shannon Sharpe stepped away from ESPN in April 2025 after being accused of sexual assault in a bombshell lawsuit. Getty Images for SiriusXM 4 Dan Le Batard speculated the NFL Hall of Famer's time at ESPN is all but over following the allegations. YouTube 'I think we can assume, I think we can reasonably assume that Shannon Sharpe would like it to look like he has a chance to return, but I don't know that you can be Disney and allow any of what happened there.' Sharpe, 56, joined ESPN's 'First Take' in 2023 after his departure from FS1's 'Undisputed' with Skip Bayless earlier in the year. In April, the legendary tight end was named in a complaint filed in Nevada state court alleging assault, sexual assault, battery and sexual battery. 4 Shannon Sharpe began appearing on ESPN's 'First Take' in 2023. Getty Images The plaintiff claimed Sharpe sexually assaulted her multiple times in late 2024 and early 2025. Sharpe denied 'all allegations of coercion or misconduct' in a statement through his legal counsel, who claimed the three-time Super Bowl champion's accuser shared a 'secretly recorded' and 'heavily edited' video with him, alleging to illustrate a nonconsensual encounter. 'Mr. Sharpe categorically denies all allegations of coercion or misconduct — especially the gross lie of 'rape' — and will not submit to what he sees as an egregious attempt at blackmail,' Sharpe's attorney, Lanny J. Davis, said. 'He stands firmly by the truth and is prepared to fight these false claims vigorously in court.' Sharpe then stepped away from ESPN, noting he anticipated returning 'at the start of the NFL preseason.' 4 The three-time Super Bowl winner also hosts the 'Club Shay Shay' and 'Night Cap' programs. YouTube 'At this juncture I am electing to step aside temporarily from my ESPN duties. I will be devoting this time to my family, and responding and dealing with these false and disruptive allegations set against me,' Sharpe said in a statement at the time. ESPN told The Post, 'This is a serious situation, and we agree with Shannon's decision to step away.' Stephen A. Smith, the network's $100 million star, said in May he is 'hopeful' for Sharpe's return as the NFL season approaches. 'He is emphatic that he is innocent of those things,' Smith said on Big Boy TV. 'But the court of public opinion is what the Disneys of the world and others concern themselves with. That's a more immediate issue. 'And unfortunately, that has worked against him at this particular moment in time. So, I'm hopeful this will all go away. I'm hopeful that I'll have my brother back on the airwaves talking football next season.' Sharpe still hosts his 'Club Shay Shay' podcast and 'Nightcap' with Chad Ochocinco.
