Rupert Lowe: Police seized wheelbarrow full of guns from my home

Telegraph16-05-2025

Armed police seized a wheelbarrow-load of guns from former Reform MP Rupert Lowe.
The MP for Great Yarmouth was reported to the police in March after Zia Yusuf accused him of making two threats of physical violence, which Lowe denied.
The Metropolitan Police passed a file to the Crown Prosecution Service last week, but on Wednesday the CPS said no action would be brought.
On Friday, Mr Lowe posted video and images of police arriving at his home and inspecting his guns a month earlier, during the investigation into alleged threats against the party chairman.
He posted the videos and images on X, formerly known as Twitter, showing police arrive at night before inspecting guns in the kitchen before leaving at 11.38pm.
He said: 'As a result of the false allegations that I made threats against the Reform chairman, on the 14th March at 21.30, armed police arrived at my home unannounced – three vehicles, with four armed officers.'
He added: 'The previous day, I had arranged with the police to voluntarily give up my guns. So as you can imagine, to have armed police suddenly arrive on my doorstep late at night was a deeply stressful situation.
'I am a farmer. Farmers have guns, all entirely legally. There is nothing unusual about it.'
Police 'confiscated' his guns, he claimed, filling a wheelbarrow. He added: 'I have a large collection, so it took some time - a wheelbarrow was required.
'I of course fully cooperated, and now that the investigation has been dropped I look forward to having my guns promptly returned.'
He accused Nigel Farage's party of 'disgusting weaponisation of the criminal justice system', and added: 'The evil behaviour from the Reform leadership must be called out.'
In a series of WhatsApp messages leaked to the BBC earlier this year, Mr Farage told an activist Mr Lowe was suspended because he had tried to 'damage' the party before the local elections.
Days before details of the accusations emerged, Mr Lowe had given an interview in which he accused Mr Farage of acting like a messiah and said he was not sure he could continue to back him.
Reform swept the board at the elections, winning control of a number of county councils.
Mr Lowe is still facing a parliamentary investigation into allegations he and members of his team bullied two former members of his staff, claims that he has categorically denied.
The MP said he did not blame the police for the way they had carried out their investigation.
'I blame Reform: their disgusting weaponisation of the criminal justice system had very real life consequences, for me and my family,' he said.
'So when people tell me to 'move on', the answer is no. Try having armed police arrive at your home unannounced late on a Friday evening. It is not a pleasant experience.
'The evil behaviour from the Reform leadership must be called out.'
On Wednesday, head of the special crime division at the CPS, Malcolm McHaffie, said: 'Following a thorough and detailed review of the evidence in relation to an allegation of threats, we have decided that no criminal charges should be brought against a sitting MP.
'Having considered a number of witness statements, we have concluded that there is insufficient evidence to provide a realistic prospect of conviction.'
The police report came amid Mr Lowe's suspension from Reform and led to an extraordinary war of words between the MP and his now former party.

Historic Arnos Vale Cemetery damaged by vandals

Members of the public are being asked to "remain vigilant" and report suspicious activity after a historic graveyard was destroyed by vandals. Arnos Vale Cemetery Trust in Bristol said a total of seven graves were damaged, with Victorian marble headstones toppled over and stonework smashed. The boiler room and crypt of the Anglican Chapel, a Grade II*-listed building, were also broken into and sustained significant damage in the trust said it may have to consider adding more security measures to the site including overnight staff and additional CCTV. The graves in Arnos Vale Cemetery date back to 1839, with the first burial recorded in July of that cemetery was designed to provide a more spacious and sanitary burial ground, compared to the overcrowded parish graveyards of the a statement, the trust said: "This vandalism has understandably caused concern to everyone that cherishes Arnos Vale Cemetery as a place of remembrance, reflection, and heritage."Acts of vandalism place additional pressure on limited resources, and divert funds away from day-to-day maintenance and conservation work across the cemetery and its listed buildings."As a registered charity, the team relies on public support and donations to care for the historic site. The cemetery remains open 24 hours a day, serving as a vital pedestrian route and green space for local people. The charity said it remains "committed to maintaining this open access", but repeated incidents may lead to the trustees "reviewing these arrangements".CEO Ann Fiddler said: "We are grateful for the continued support and ask everyone to remain vigilant and report any signs of new damage to the graves or the site."Together we can ensure the protection and conservation of this unique place for generations to come."Your eyes and support can make a real difference in protecting this special place."

'Kudos to Martin for backing himself to win over support'

After four months of searching, and numerous candidates in the mix from Steven Gerrard to Davide Ancelotti, we finally have our head coach to kickstart the new era for the responsibility has been given to Russell Martin, that's right - don't squint your eyes or think this is a typo - it's actually him. Frankly, as always, I hope it works and he is successful but it appears he's the one that almost no one the online reaction, you have to give him some kudos for taking the job and backing himself to win over the trust of the thing that irked me with regard to Philippe Clement's style of football was the lack of control - it was all very will be the polar opposite. What I hope for is that he can come in and keep the positive parts of his play - the high press and high tempo - and tighten up the I always feel the sign of a good manager is someone who can improve players already at a club when you arrive. If he can get a right few of them to take their games to the next level such as Mo Diomande, Nico Raskin and Hamza Igamane, I'd be delighted with that as a starting from Martin at his first media conference today will be interesting, particularly his thoughts on the fan noise and more importantly, how he wants to move this team forward and try and win games of sporting director Kevin Thelwell and new technical director Dan Purdy must give him the tools to succeed by adding to the players mentioned above, if they remain at the club beyond the summer. It's a tough job ahead, and the recruitment has to be spot on all across the squad to get players that fit the Martin's currently have a mishmash of players who lack direction. Hopefully with a new manager and new players coming in things will become more cohesive on the pitch.I'm intrigued where this will go, what calibre of player we can attract and how Martin's philosophy will work both domestically and in be honest, going into next season, fan opinion, possession stats and philosophies won't really matter. It's silverware that counts and if you wanted Martin or were a bit dubious, like myself, you just hope he comes in and delivers.

Love Island star Kyle Ashman speaks for the first time since being axed from the line-up after machete attack arrest

Kyle Ashman spoke out for the first time since being axed from the Love Island line-up on Wednesday. The dating show hopeful, 23, was involved in a machete attack in February when masked thugs stormed a wake and hacked at a dad with a blade. Kyle was arrested but released with no further action. He has now shared his side of the story, explaining his innocence and hopes to be able to have a chance on the show in the future. Speaking in a video shared to Instagram, Kyle said: 'I'm sure you have seen the news circulating. I'm innocent, there was no further action taken. 'I'm not a bad guy. I'm a normal guy from a normal place. An opportunity arose to find love, I grabbed it with both hands and it's been taken away from me. Kyle added: 'I have seen the support pages and who knows, maybe I'll get a chance to go on Casa Amor, or as a bombshell, get back in and show you who I really am. 'Show you that I am not a bad guy... we'll see.' He captioned the clip: 'Just wanted to share my side.' ITV declined to comment when contacted by MailOnline. Kyle was one of two arrested by police but he was released with no further action. Following the reports, Kyle has confirmed he had no involvement in the incident, but has chosen to leave the ITV show regardless. He told MailOnline: 'I fully cooperated with this police investigation and made it very clear that I had no involvement in this incident. 'I am not a violent person and any suggestion otherwise is a mischaracterisation.' Meanwhile ITV added: 'For personal reasons, Kyle will not be entering the Love Island Villa as planned.' The Love Island line-up was announced on Tuesday so Kyle's departure will have plunged the show into chaos ahead of Monday's launch episode. The Sun have revealed they alerted bosses on Kyle being questioned in the attack but ITV said they were unaware of the incident and he was not flagged during the contestant checks. The incident on February 28 saw the victim, 38, nearly lose his arm after he was rushed to hospital for emergency treatment and kept it for around two weeks. Another mourner was reportedly glassed, one hit with a metal pole, and two people were run over by a car during the 15 minute attack at the The White Eagle Club in Stafford. Sources said the victim was attacked by three balaclava-clad thugs over an alleged £3,000 debt. He was injured by a blade that left him with a deep gash and has suffered tendon damage and is now unable to drive. Police confirmed yesterday that after the matter had been investigated Kyle and another individual were released with no further action only last month. A show source told the publication: 'ITV were entirely unaware of Kyle's past and, as he was not charged, it was not flagged as part of Love Island's stringent DBS checks. 'It's only right he can now return home to the UK to share his side of the story and therefore bosses took the decision that it was best for him not to enter the villa.' Staffordshire Police said on Monday: 'A 22-year-old man, from Stafford, was arrested on suspicion of wounding and affray. Another man, also 22 and from Stafford, was arrested on suspicion of affray. 'Both were questioned in custody and bailed with conditions while our enquiries continue.' Kyle, who works as a water operative, doesn't have a strong social media presence with just one Insta pic on his profile. Prior to his announced departure, Kyle said he was looking for 'someone that's fun, confident and just themselves'.
