NASCAR's RCR Opens up on Potential Suspension For Hill After Xfinity Wreck

Newsweek2 days ago
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources.
Richard Childress has addressed the possibility of Austin Hill receiving a suspension after Hill's incident with Aric Almirola during the NASCAR Xfinity Race at Indianapolis.
Hill right rear hooked Almirola in what seemed to be an act of retaliation for aggressive driving. He was then handed a five-lap penalty. However, Hill swore on the radio while addressing NASCAR, which could make matters worse when the sport announces a fine and penalty points for the incident next week. Hill said in his penalty rant:
"Oh they can go f**k themselves. F**k NASCAR. That is f***ing bulls**t. I'm f***ing sideways, I go to correct it back to the left, it gets locked to the left, I f***ing run into the 19 [Almirola]."
Reports suggest that the next penalty for Hill could be a suspension, which would mean a big dent for Hill and his team in the playoff points. He is the first driver since 2021 to be held for five laps. Childress has addressed the possibility of Hill being hit with a suspension to Dustin Long of NBC. He said:

We're a blue-collar team, they give us trouble all the time."

Almirola also opened up on the incident with Hill, accusing him of wrecking him intentionally. He said:
"Oh, it was definitely intentional. He blocked me three times. He had damage on his nose, so he was really slow in the corners. So, it was time to go. I mean, we're coming to 10 laps to go or nine laps to go. Uh, the leaders are starting to put a gap on us. So, it's time to go, and I got him loose. Yeah, you just turn left and hook me in the right rears. Honestly, one of the biggest hits in my entire NASCAR career. Very reminiscent of the hit I took when I broke my back."
Hill finished the race in P34, one place ahead of Almirola, who finished in P35. Almirola added:
"So, glad I'm okay, thankful to everybody back at the shop at Joe Gibbs Racing for building amazing race cars and making them safe. Disappointed, felt like we had a shot to win. I have so much fun every time we run these races. We have great race cars, and I love doing it. It's just unfortunate that guys like that, especially that guy. He stood up in front of a meeting at Martinsville and said he was going to be a role model for all the young kids to look up to, and racing etiquette, and I think that's kind of laughable after that one."

This milestone marks the first-ever use of driverless trucking technology in motorsports logistics supporting NASCAR teams with automated delivery of wheels, tires, and pit Champion Tire & Wheel's Industry-First Automated Truck Platoon Successfully Deploys to Support the NASCAR Brickyard 400 A photo accompanying this announcement is available at Two tractor-trailers, outfitted with premium Goodyear commercial truck tires, will travel along the I-70 corridor between Ohio and Indiana in the automated platoon configuration, with one human-driven lead truck paired to an automated follower. Equipped with advanced Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) communications, onboard sensors, and automated control systems, the automated follower truck maintains coordinated speed, braking, and steering with the lead. Originally developed for defense applications, Kratos' dual-use technologies demonstrate a transformative approach to fleet logistics using automation to address challenges facing commercial logistics, agriculture, energy, and mining sectors vital to national security. 'Deploying automation in a fast-moving, time-critical logistics environment like NASCAR gave us a unique opportunity to show how seamlessly Kratos' technology fits into real-world operations,' said Maynard Factor, VP of Business Development at Kratos. 'Even outside of core industries, we demonstrated that commercial fleets can adopt Kratos' autonomous systems without overhauling their workflows or disrupting day-to-day business proving how practical and scalable this technology is.' Champion Tire & Wheel, a longtime innovator in motorsports logistics, became the first to use automated platooning to deliver equipment to a global racing event. Operating within the NASCAR supply chain, this deployment underscores how automation can strengthen business continuity and drive efficiency across commercial logistics environments. 'This technology provides us options to better manage spikes in the schedule where distance and timing are a challenge,' said Kevin Mahl, President & CEO of Champion Tire & Wheel. 'By pairing a human-driven lead truck with an autonomous follower, we can keep the fleet moving efficiently to the next race venue. With Kratos autonomous systems as a tool to use when needed, we're able to move more equipment, more efficiently, and give ourselves more flexibility in our logistics planning.' With a legacy of delivering high-performance tires and trusted fleet solutions, Goodyear joined the collaboration to demonstrate how advanced tire and vehicle systems can enable next-generation logistics. Nascar Welcomes Numerous New Partners As Racing Blossoms Again

LONG POND, PA - JUNE 22: Denny Hamlin (#11 Joe Gibbs Racing Progressive Toyota) drives during the ... More NASCAR Cup Series The Great American Getaway 400 on June 22, 2025 at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pennsylvania. (Photo by Rich Graessle/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images) Formula 1 may have a hit Netflix series and a movie that debuted this June, but it is nowhere close to Nascar in terms of popularity in America. With a trio of American events, Formula 1's potential is limited (no other country hosts multiple F1 events), while Nascar is using the newfound interest in racing to grow its own brand. Stock car racing – after a decade-long decline in ratings, attendance and sponsorship – is back with a vengeance since the debut of the Next Gen car. 'Nascar is authentic and quintessential Americana,' Nascar's SVP and Chief Commercial Officer Craig Stimmel, said. "While fandom of our sport continues to grow and expand beyond our borders, we continue to have the most passionate fanbase in the United States in terms of brand loyalty, and that's where our focus is. As Steve Phelps mentioned recently, F1 and Nascar are different products with very different fan bases. As the popularity of motorsports continues to rise, it's a good thing for us - especially being by far the number one motorsport in the United States. A new racecar beginning in 2022 – the Next Gen – reenergized fans and partners alike. Along with the new look, Nascar's leadership has also evolved to modernize the sport in fresh ways, with Commissioner Steve Phelps, President Steve O'Donnell, and Senior Vice President of Racing Development and Strategy Ben Kennedy leading the charge. Nascar is walking the tight rope throughout the reemergence as not only the leading American motor sport, but also as the landing place for brands searching for growth. 'More than anything, I think you're seeing these brands realize the momentum Nascar is carrying and the exposure to a massive fanbase that our sport offers," Stimmel said. "Look no further than the consistent audience we've seen across our broadcast partners FOX, Prime Video and TNT this season alone, around 3 million average viewers for every Nascar Cup Series race so far this season, with the NBC season upcoming. Then, you have another million or so on average on The CW for the Xfinity Series. And that's just on TV, and that's a number we deliver for 10 months out of the year!' Through the Amazon Prime portion of the schedule, the Cup Series averaged 2.16 million viewers per race, with the Xfinity Series on The CW averaging 1.1 million viewers, a 19% increase from 2024. On the digital side, Nascar said its digital platforms have increased by 7% over 2024. Additionally, Nascar's cross-platform follower count (FB, IG, X, TikTok, YouTube) is at 17.5 million followers, up by 1.3 million since the start of 2025. With these increases, Nascar has inked 15 new official partnerships between major companies and the sanctioning body, with firms like National Debt Relief, Dave & Buster's, Jack Link's, Ticketmaster, Arby's, Liquid Death, amongst others. 'We're super bullish of the extraordinary brand value, exposure, and opportunities we've been able to create at all levels of the sport," Stimmel said. "The Nascar industry is one of the most uniquely sponsor-friendly sports in the world and we are confident in our proven ability to deliver exceptional value to brands of all sizes and on a variety of terms. With owning 14 tracks and working with our other track partners, as well, we are in a unique position as a league to work with our teams to deliver a message that moves product for brands. 'It's no secret that sponsorship strategies are always evolving and partnerships will inevitably change because of that – especially now with so many ways for brands – both on the legacy side and challenger brands: to promote and activate, whether it be through on-site activation, IP adjacency or social and digital promotion. With that said, we are focused on delivering bespoke solutions based on brand briefs versus just a standard league sponsorship model. With these expanding and quickly evolving options inherently comes a wide variation in how long brands choose to partner. It's truly on a case-by-case basis depending on what a brand's goals are.' Not only has Nascar benefitted from its own return to American glory, but so have teams. Dollar Tree just inked a major multiyear extension with Jimmie Johnson's Legacy Motor Club. National Debt Relief joined Denny Hamlin's Joe Gibbs Racing No. 11 team ahead of the 2025 season, as did King's Hawaiian (moved from RFK Racing), Progressive Insurance and Bob's Discount Furniture. New partnerships are not the only ones that Nascar is thrilled about. Red Bull, for example, returned to Nascar after a 14-year hiatus, partnering with Trackhouse Racing, as did Wendy's. Carvana continues to sponsor Johnson, and others like Chipotle are backing drivers (Ryan Blaney in this case through a public endorsement) with partnerships and activations. Aaron's, a longtime Michael Waltrip Racing partner, returned to the Cup Series with Front Row Motorsports this year. Stimmel concluded: 'The success we've been able to experience across all our media partners at this juncture in the season has had a very positive impact on the interest we're seeing in our sport. This is a new Nascar, and the proof is there in the metrics we continue to experience on a weekly basis.'

AJ Allmendinger shares opinion about new NASCAR San Diego street race

DAYTONA BEACH — AJ Allmendinger admires this about NASCAR over the last few years. 'I'm all for trying new things,' the driver of the No. 16 Kaulig Racing Chevrolet said. 'Dirt race at Bristol, whether you liked or hated it, it was new. Street racing, going to different places. I think it's cool.' This week, NASCAR formally announced its newest novelty. Next season, it will run a street race at Naval Base Coronado in San Diego. The weekend, which is scheduled for June 19-21, will include Cup, Xfinity and Truck events. It serves as the spiritual successor to the Chicago Street Race of the last three seasons, becoming just the second street course in the modern era. It also will be the first time NASCAR has put on a show from an active military base. 'I think it's a win for everybody,' Allmendinger told The News-Journal during a fundraising visit to Daytona International Speedway on Wednesday. San Diego street race will put NASCAR back in SoCal The event will insert NASCAR back into the Southern California market, something it lost with the shuttering of Auto Club Speedway in Fontana in 2023. Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum filled the gap for one year in 2024. But that was the last of its three years hosting the preseason Clash. The exhibition relocated to Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, for the 2025 season. 'That Southern California market we miss, for sure,' Allmendinger said. 'We still had it a little bit with the Coliseum, but now that is gone. And San Diego itself is just such a pretty area. So it'll be fun to see how they set up the race track.' Allmendinger added that's the biggest potential con to street racing — the track layout. He harbored initial doubts about Chicago. When that race arrived in 2023, he looked at the course and thought it would eliminate passing opportunities. It was too narrow. He quickly realized that wasn't the case, though. 'I think we had some of the best passing opportunities, and it showed that over the three years of racing,' he said. AJ Allmendinger thought NASCAR's Chicago Street Race was successful Allmendinger liked the Chicago experience. He participated in all three iterations and posted his best finish (sixth) earlier this month. 'I thought Chicago, for the most part, was very successful over the three years,' he said. 'It was nice, for the most part, to have good weather this year because I felt like, the first two years, that's what hurt the Cup race. But this year, it seemed more crowded than it had been. It just kept growing. 'I think that's what's great about street racing in general. You kind of bring a new public to it. Back when I raced Champ Car, that's what we always said — 30% of the fans knew what was going on and 70% of them usually drove down those streets at 30 miles per hour and they kind of rolled out there like, 'What's going on now?'' Despite putting the event on pause, NASCAR might return to Chicago in the future. The door remains open for 2027. Allmendinger wouldn't mind that. 'It'd have been fun to keep it,' he said. 'I think it was doing a really good job. But I also think sometimes, with street races, you've got to go try new markets and it kind of runs its course. But I'm not opposed to going back there.' Does the NASCAR schedule have too many road courses? Because 2026 won't feature a Chicago Street Race, with San Diego essentially replacing it, the number of road courses on the schedule could stay at six. The full slate is expected to be released in the next few weeks. Road courses have been a point of contention recently. Brad Keselowski criticized the amount of them on social media. Denny Hamlin stated his desire for fewer on his Actions Detrimental podcast. Both drivers publicized their feelings in mid-July, right as Shane van Gisbergen was ripping off his third road-course victory in five weeks and rumors about a San Diego addition swirled. Then, Michael McDowell defended NASCAR and opposed Keselowski's comments during an appearance on the Door Bumper Clear podcast. Where does Allmendinger fall? 'I think six is about as max as we need,' he said. 'Anywhere from four-to-six, I'm good with. 'But you can say we have six superspeedway races, right? I don't want any more of those, either. You don't want too much of one thing, so I think that's a good number. We don't need more of it. But I would hate to go back to just two or three of them as well.' Especially with the San Diego news, a massive decrease doesn't look likely anytime soon.
