School students, health workers, govt officials and athletes took part in the yoga session which was held at the Durga Puja ground at Khasmahal. East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Karna Satyarthi led the session by doing asanas himself. "Yoga not only keeps our body healthy but is a strong medium for attaining mental peace and spiritual balance," he said. Events were also held at all the block and panchayat centres.
Many corporate companies too held events both in Jamshedpur and Adityapur industrial area to mark the day.
In Bokaro, all roads led to the Sports Complex in Sector 4 as thousands of yoga enthusiasts gathered to take part in the session which was organised by Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL). BSL's director in-charge Birendra Kumar Tiwari inaugurated the event alongside senior executives, employees, their families, and school students.
Renowned yoga expert Krishna Bandhu Mishra led the session, conducting practical demonstrations of asanas and pranayama.

NZP to set up India's first biosafety level-3 lab for animal disease detection
Hyderabad: The Nehru Zoological Park (NZP) intends to set up a biosafety level-3 (BSL-3) lab on its premises soon, officials from the zoo said. A BSL-3 lab is a disease-detecting facility used to identify zoonotic diseases in animals and prevent their spread to human beings and vice versa. Once operational, it will help the zoo conduct everyday testing of the animals, help control the spread of viral infections, and also prepare for long-term disease management. "We have seen what COVID-19, a zoonotic disease that was transmitted from bats, could do to the human population. With the lab in place, we can constantly monitor the health of the animals and any potential viruses they may be carrying. Moreover, in a zoo like ours, where animal-human interaction is high, it becomes even more important to set up this lab to safeguard our visitors," said Sunil S Hiremath, the director of NZP. Presently, the zoo has a veterinary hospital that it uses to treat its animals for medical conditions and an in-house lab, where the zoo uses faecal and blood sample analysis for primary disease diagnosis like salmonellosis, gastrointestinal issues like acute or chronic gastroenteritis, and conditions like tuberculosis. Currently, the zoo is in the process of drafting a proposal to the central govt to get the necessary approvals. Once the project is approved, it will be launched as a govt of India project, officials said. "My team and I are in the process of finalising the details for the lab. Once that is done, we should have a clearer picture of how much the lab is going to cost us and how much space it will take," the director said. "We have the necessary manpower to run it successfully too. We have so many qualified scientists in the zoo, and the city is home to a number of reputed veterinary institutes and colleges like the VBRI and the Veterinary University in Rajendranagar, with whom we'll collaborate," the director added. More organisers opt for event insurance before major festive season
Event insurance, particularly for major religious festivities such as Dahi Handi, Ganesh Chaturthi, and Durga Puja, is witnessing increased uptake ahead of the festive season, as organisers become more conscious of risks and proactively seek coverage to safeguard their events. This year, nearly 160,000 Govindas participating in Dahi Handi have been insured. Industry estimates suggest each Govinda is covered for Rs 10 lakh at a premium of Rs 75. With festivals now receiving government support, organisers are encouraged to opt for comprehensive insurance packages to cover participants and assets, industry experts said. The Dahi Handi festival, celebrated especially in Maharashtra on Krishna Janmashtami, involves Govindas — young men and women — forming human pyramids to reach and break a pot (handi) suspended high above the ground. 'For Dahi Handi, nearly 158,000 Govindas have been insured. Last year, the number stood at just over 100,000. Each participant benefits from a cover of Rs 10 lakh, secured at a nominal premium of Rs 75. The Maharashtra Rajya Dahihandi Govinda Association (MRDGA) has insured nearly 145,000 Govindas, and the Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation has insured about 6,600. Mandals have also taken separate covers. As many as 1,968 mandals have been insured this year, up from 1,324 in 2023,' said Sachin Khanvilkar, Manager, Oriental Insurance Company. The Maharashtra government has also announced insurance coverage for 150,000 Govindas, with the cost borne by the Sports Development Fund through Oriental Insurance. This trend suggests that organisers are becoming more conscious of risks and are proactively seeking coverage.' Insurers note a shift in how festivals are managed, with growing awareness encouraging organisers to adopt event insurance as a practical risk management tool. As festivals expand in scale with larger budgets and public participation, insurers are also offering customised policies. While public liability for large gatherings and personal accident cover for volunteers form the core of most policies, other options include protection for sets and equipment, money in transit, and employee fraud. Organisers can customise cover according to their requirements, industry experts said. 'With growing awareness and the increasing complexity of festival planning, more organisers are turning to event insurance as an essential risk management tool. Initiatives such as the Maharashtra government's insurance for Dahi Handi participants and the extensive coverage taken by Mumbai's GSB Seva Mandal reflect this changing mindset,' Saxena added.

'The government had wanted to recruit as many as 72 specialist doctors, but did not find suitable candidates. Only 45 candidates were found eligible for specialist doctors', he said. All the eligible GDMOs will be appointed before Durga Puja in late September, the official said, adding that this is the first time that the government has gone for a mega recruitment drive for doctors.
