Five biggest weekend developments for Notre Dame football recruiting
It was a good weekend for Notre Dame football recruiting even though it did not gain a new commitment.
More than a few prospects were on campus, and others that have decided to start winding down the decision-making process. The Irish continue to make positive waves on the recruiting trail, and while they don't have much to show for recently, they will very soon.

The five biggest developments involving Notre Dame football from this weekend:
(Note: All rankings are from the 247Sports composite.)
Cornerback J'Vari Flowers sets commitment date
In an interesting move, the 5-foot, 11-inch, 165-pound prospect reclassified from the 2026 class to the 2025 class in January. However, Flowers has not signed a letter of intent. Due to the nature of his late move, the nation's No. 82 overall prospect was given a bit more time than normal, and he is now looking to make a commitment. He took an official visit to Notre Dame earlier this month, so the Irish are squarely in the mix.
Defensive lineman Tiki Hola sets his commitment date
In a much more traditional recruitment, Hola is looking to end the process in about six weeks. He has official visits set for each of his three finalists, and Notre Dame gets the last shot to impress him in mid-June. The Irish would love to add the 6-foot, 2-inch and 285-pounder to their roster. He's an impressive prospect who ranks No. 312 overall.
Wide receiver Kaydon Finley
It very much looks like the Irish hit a home run with the talented Texan. At 6 feet, 200 pounds, Finley could line up at multiple receiver positions, making him a terror for opposing defenses. Ranked No. 101 overall nationally, it will not be easy for Notre Dame to land him, but it put its best foot forward this weekend.
Wide receiver Mason James
It's safe to say Notre Dame has made the wide receiver position a big focus in the 2026 recruiting class. The 5-foot, 11-inch 170-pounder is one of the main targets. James was on campus this weekend, and, by all accounts, the visit went well. The Irish are one of the main contenders for his commitment, but don't have an official visit set. Hopefully one is planned in the near future for the nation's No. 224 overall prospect.
Running back Brian Bonner Jr.
A big-time California recruit, Bonner was on campus this weekend, and it also looks like the visit went quite well. The country's No. 99 overall prospect holds the Irish in high regard. While an official visit has not been scheduled, don't be surprised if one is announced in the near future. At 6 feet, 1 inch and 185 pounds, if Bonner was to land with Notre Dame, he could be the next true freshman running back to make waves.

Notre Dame is not on Claude Mpouma's top-five list
Notre Dame is not on Claude Mpouma's top-five list The Fighting Irish appear to be missing out on top o-line prospect Four-star offensive line prospect Claude Mpouma has a top-five list for his potential school choices, and Notre Dame isn't on it. This despite the Fighting Irish making him an offer as they try to deepen ties with his high school -- Mount Carmel in Chicago The 6-foot-8, 305-pound Mpouma's list includes Michigan, Nebraska, Ohio State, Florida and Auburn. That's a blow for Notre Dame, which has built its recent success around offensive line play. The Irish could always use another four-star recruit. The Mount Carmel Caravan is often one of the strongest teams in Illinois, so it's likely that Notre Dame will keep trying to recruit players from the school. But it looks like head coach Marcus Freeman and his staff have missed out on Mpouma. PFF ranked Baltimore Ravens' Kyle Hamilton as the best safety in the NFL.
PFF ranked Baltimore Ravens' Kyle Hamilton as the best safety in the NFL. originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Baltimore Ravens have a rich tradition on defense, and now they have something else that fits that tradition ... Advertisement As they employ one of the best defensive players in the entire NFL in safety Kyle Hamilton, and he will be looking to lead the team to the same success they had in 2024 this season. In a recent article by PFF's Zoltán Buday, he ranks who he believes are the top 32 safeties in the NFL heading into the 2025 season. And at the top spot, he has the 24-year-old Ravens star stealing the show. "Hamilton showed off his versatility in 2024, moving to free safety for most of the second half of the season after playing mainly in the box or as a slot cornerback initially," Buday wrote. "He was also the most complete safety in the league as the only player at the position to earn at least an 88.0 PFF grade in coverage, run defense and pass rushing." The Ravens selected Hamilton out of Notre Dame with the 14th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, and they have not looked back since. Advertisement He finished the 2024 season with a very impressive 107 total tackles, with 77 of them being solo. Hamilton was also able to show his ball-hawk skills by snagging an interception and defending nine passes. The Ravens lost to the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Divisional round this past season, so Hamilton and the rest of the team's defense will be looking to help lead the team back to the playoffs to redeem themselves.
