LEGENDARY trainer Henry de Bromhead has snapped up a 17-year-old jockey - as he looks to fill the void at his yard left by Rachael Blackmore.
The trailblazing Grand National winner announced her shock retirement aged 35 in May this year.

Rachael Blackmore has left a huge void at Henry de Bromhead's yard - but he is attempting to fill it with hugely promising 17-year-old jockey Conor Cusack

It ended an amazing and emotional partnership with De Bromhead that saw them win the world's most famous race plus the Gold Cup.
The timing of Blackmore's retirement meant Irish handler De Bromhead had some time to bolster his jockey ranks.
And while it seems the brilliant Darragh O'Keeffe will be his No1 for the new jumps season, De Bromhead has moved quickly to sign another rider who could flourish on the Flat.
Step forward Conor Cusack - who already has a close bond with the Waterford handler.
Cusack has banged in a quickfire double for De Bromhead this month - winning twice from two rides.
He showed superior skill in the saddle to time 9-4 Stepdance's win just right at Limerick last Saturday.
While at Killarney on Monday he was never for catching on six-length stunner Catena Zapata in a mile contest.
De Bromhead has shown himself a top notch dual purpose trainer in recent years.
He won the Ascot Stakes at last month's Royal Ascot with Ascending and last year bagged a £300,000 cheque with Magical Zoe's win in the Ebor.
Cusack's rapid rise through the ranks suggests he could be the man for the future.
And how fitting that would be, given he was friends with De Bromhead's late son Jack.
Racing was plunged into mourning when Jack died aged 13 in September 2022.
Cusack dedicated his recent wins to Jack and thanked Henry for the chance to show what he can do.
The jockey, who was lifted off his feet by several women in celebration at Killarney, said: "Hopefully things keep going and a massive thanks to Henry who has trusted me with two nice horses.
"I'm light enough so hope to stay at this game - I'm not too fond of the table!
"It's a great feeling.
"I was supposed to be out in Spain on holidays but the availability came up to ride this one so I said I'd book a flight home early.
"Thank God it's worked out!"

Rising star Billy Loughnane has reached another milestone by becoming the first jockey to ride 100 Flat winners in 2025. The 19-year-old burst onto the scene as a 16-year-old at the end of 2022 and has rapidly become one of the hottest riders on the British circuit. The son of Kidderminster trainer Mark Loughnane was crowned champion apprentice in his first full season as a jockey when he rode 130 winners. Last year, when he also rode his first Royal Ascot winners, he finished with a score of 162 and was placed fourth in the Flat jockeys' championship behind Oisin Murphy. His 2025 campaign began with another accolade when he was crowned All-Weather champion jockey and he has maintained his relentless rise despite being hit the an 11-day ban early in the turf season. With nine winners in the last fortnight, Loughnane overtook Murphy, who is on 98, to become the winning-most rider of this year. Then on Friday he hit the century mark when he steered the Andrew Balding-trained Gewan to victory in a 7f novices race for two-year-olds at Newbury. So far this year his rides have earned more than £1.3 million in prize-money. There is still work to be done if he is to win the jockeys' title, which is decided by wins recorded between May 3 and October 18. In that table, Loughnane lies fourth with 38 wins, behind Murphy (61), William Buick (44) and Rossa Ryan (41). Loughnane, who rides as first jockey to Newmarket trainer George Boughey, secured his first Group victory of the year at York last week and has ridden four winners from six rides for Godolphin trainer Charlie Appleby. He said: 'I'm delighted to get my hundredth winner up this calendar year. Some of the highlights are being champion all-weather jockey and some nice winners at some of the bigger meetings like Newmarket on Dance To The Music for Mr Appleby and some nice horses Hopefully we can try and knock a few more up."

Powerful chance for Slattery colt in smart renewal of Sapphire Stakes
The Sioux Nation colt has never finished outside of the first three in eight starts and landed a Listed race on his last outing. 'He looks ready for this, he's very exciting and we like him, he's a very fast horse,' said Slattery ahead of the Group Two contest. 'I'm as confident as I can be I suppose, I wouldn't swap him for another horse in there anyway. His form stands up. He's raced against Arizona Blaze twice and beaten him twice. 'Mgheera is a Group Two winner, but she's got the penalty. We've been taking our time with him, but everything has been good with him. We won't know if he's ready for the next step until we do it. 'I think with a bit of luck in running we should take a good bit of beating.' Arizona Blaze was second at Royal Ascot in the Commonwealth Cup last time out and was also second at the Breeders' Cup last autumn. 'We're expecting a big run. He's a lovely horse and he never seems to run a bad race,' said trainer Adrian Murray. 'He's been second in two Group Ones, at the Breeders' Cup and Royal Ascot, he was third at Ascot last year, he's won two Group Threes, he's been a great horse for us. 'Hopefully we get get his head in front in a Group One before the season is out. 'If the winner at Ascot (Time For Sandals) had been on his side I think he might have battled back because they were so far apart he probably thought he'd won, but that's racing.
