Chelsea Are In The Running To Land This Bundesliga Playmaker: What Will He Add To Maresca's Team?

In a recent print edition, Sport mentioned that Chelsea are in the running to land RB Leipzig playmaker Xavi Simons this summer. It has been revealed that the Blues would have to compete with Manchester United and Bayern Munich in the race to land the Dutch attacker in this transfer window.
Simons' Impressive Form In The Bundesliga Last Season
Simons had a decent campaign at the German club as he put in a run of impressive displays for them in the final third. The 22-year-old participated in 33 matches for RB Leipzig last season, scoring 11 goals and earning eight assists in various competitions.
The Amsterdam-born talent was a reliable performer in the opponent's half based on his average of 2.09 shots per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga. He kept 46% of his attempts on target. Simons was even tidy when distributing the ball in the final third, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 78.6% in the German top flight (stats via fbref.com).
Simons is under contract at the Red Bull Arena until the summer of 2027 which could make it difficult for Chelsea to sign him on the cheap this off-season.
What Will Simons Add To Chelsea Boss Enzo Maresca's Team?
Simons is a good dribbler with the ball and can make some dangerous runs on the offensive end of the field. He can strike the ball with venom from long range and has got the eye to play a few decisive passes in the opponent's half.
The Dutch talent can chip in by scoring a handful of important goals for his team. Simons mainly operates as an attacking midfielder but can also play a winger if required. However, it remains to be seen whether he can maintain his good form in the Premier League if Chelsea manage to bring him on board this summer.
We can expect Simons to add more firepower to Enzo Maresca's frontline. He could go on to form a productive partnership with Cole Palmer at the West London club.
At 22, the future looks quite bright for Simons as long as he continues to improve with each year. Therefore, it makes sense for the Blues to try everything they can to lure him to Stamford Bridge before the end of this transfer window.

Pogačar effectively seals 4th Tour de France title as organizers neutralize times before stage ends

PARIS (AP) — Slovenian rider Tadej Pogačar effectively sealed his fourth Tour de France title on Sunday after organizers decided to neutralize the times with 50 kilometers (31 miles) left because of the threat of rain and crashes. Freezing the times for the 21st and final stage into Paris all-but-ensured victory for Pogačar, but he still had to cross the finish line later in order to win. The decision was made in the late afternoon and, shortly after Pogačar reached 50 kilometers to go, heavy rain began falling and drenched the roads. The 26-year-old Pogačar is the defending champion and won his other Tour titles in 2020 and '21. ___ Tour de France coverage: and

Euro 2025: Spain leads England 1-0 at halftime in the final on Mariona Caldentey's header

BASEL, Switzerland — Spain leads England 1-0 at halftime in the Women's European Championship final on Sunday after scoring a very English-style goal. Mariona Caldentey's header in the 25th minute was fair reward for Spain's precise passing patterns around the tightly packed England penalty area. It was the fourth time in England's six games at this tournament that the defending champion trailed to the first goal before halftime.

Cowboys sign tight end Jake Ferguson to a 4-year, $52 million extension

OXNARD, Calif. — The Dallas Cowboys signed tight end Jake Ferguson to a four-year, $52 million extension Sunday. The deal includes a $12 million signing bonus. A fourth-round pick in 2022, Ferguson is entering the final year of his rookie deal. He had 59 catches for 494 yards but did not have a touchdown reception last season. The previous year, he posted career highs with 71 catches for 761 yards and five TDs. Ferguson dealt with knee and concussion issues last year but still started 14 games. This deal comes as two-time All-Pro defensive end Micah Parsons remains in negotiations for his own extension, entering the final season of his rookie deal. Parsons said recently he had not seen much progress in those talks. ___ AP NFL:
