In the unforgiving icy landscapes, where silence isn't just golden but pervasive, we find ourselves engulfed in the gritty narrative that unfolds in Wind River. Starring Jeremy Renner, an actor who never shies away from complex, layered characters, this movie beckons viewers into a world that is as beautiful as it is brutal.
In the hauntingly serene yet savage terrains of the Wind River Indian Reservation in Wyoming, the story spirals around the relentless pursuit of justice. The film is held taut by the directorial skill of Taylor Sheridan, an artist adept at weaving narratives that strike a fine balance between raw realism and intricate storytelling.
Jeremy Renner embodies Cory Lambert, a seasoned wildlife officer with a knack for tracking predators in the harsh wilderness. His path intertwines with Jane Banner, a fresh and somewhat unprepared FBI agent portrayed by Elizabeth Olsen. Together, they navigate the unsettling and bitterly cold territory, both literally and figuratively, as they try to unravel the mystery behind the gruesome death of a local young woman.
Their journey is not just a search for a murderer but also a deep dive into the socio-economic intricacies and the grim realities of life on the reservation. Sheridan skillfully unravels a world where despair often overshadows hope, and where the landscape mirrors the harsh lives of its inhabitants.
Well-rounded performances by a cast that includes Gil Birmingham add more depth to the narrative. Birmingham brings life to the role of Martin, the grief-stricken father struggling to come to terms with his daughter's tragic loss.
Together, Wind River's stellar ensemble cast takes us on a journey that is as much about personal redemption as it is about justice, giving audiences a glimpse into the bleak realities that lie in the hidden corners of America's frontiers.
Critics praised the film's tense exploration of justice and grief within the context of Native American reservation life, calling it a haunting and socially resonant thriller. It holds an 88% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 7.7/10 on IMDb. Audiences responded positively to its emotional depth and stark realism, with many citing it as one of the year's overlooked gems.
If you've only seen Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen together in Marvel movies, make it a point to give Wind River a chance.

Heaven Sure Feels Like Hell in Afterlife Dramedy ‘Eternity'

Quirky depictions of the afterlife have been well-explored by movies and TV; think Albert Brooks' film Defending Your Life or Kristen Bell's series The Good Place. But the quandary introduced in Eternity is a particularly prickly one, as a woman who's lived a long life that encompassed two happy marriages crosses over… into a fantastical but weirdly bureaucratic version of purgatory, where she's informed she must pick between her loves to decide her eternal partner. The new trailer for Eternity dropped today, and if that premise makes you want to scream, at least the cast has a lot of appeal: Elizabeth Olsen, Callum Turner, Miles Teller, John Early, and Da'Vine Joy Randolph. Who else muttered 'Oh, she's in the Bad Place' to themselves while watching that? Here's the official plot description, which doesn't really elaborate more on what the trailer shows: 'In an afterlife where souls have one week to decide where to spend eternity, Joan (Elizabeth Olsen) is faced with the impossible choice between the man she spent her life with (Miles Teller) and her first love (Callum Turner), who died young and has waited decades for her to arrive.' It's the afterlife. It's a magical realm. They don't say 'heaven,' but it looks pretty dreamy aside from all that ridiculous romantic drama. Why can't Joan have it both ways? Who made up these rules? ONE WEEK?? Is there any room to negotiate? All will be revealed when Eternity, which was written by David Freyne (The Cured), hits theaters in November. Want more io9 news? Watch: 'Eternity' trailer finds Elizabeth Olsen in afterlife love triangle

July 29 (UPI) -- Elizabeth Olsen finds herself in an afterlife love triangle with her two dead husbands in the new film Eternity. In a trailer released Tuesday, viewers see Miles Teller's character wake up on a train only to realize, upon reaching the station, that he has died. He quickly reunites with Olsen's character, Joan, who has also passed away. The pair seem relieved to have found one another before Joan's first love (Callum Turner) arrives on the scene. "In an afterlife where souls have one week to decide where to spend eternity, Joan is faced with the impossible choice between the man she spent her life with and her first love, who died young and has waited decades for her to arrive," an official synopsis reads. The film will arrive in theaters later this year, but a specific release date has not yet been announced. John Early, Olga Merediz and Da'Vine Joy Randolph also star. David Freyne directs from a script he wrote with Pat Cunnane.
