W.i.S.H Drops Debut Album Sweetburn, Blending Desi Glam With Global Pop Sounds
India's pop scene just got a major jolt of energy — and a lot more sparkle — with the arrival of Sweetburn, the debut album by W.i.S.H., the country's first all-girl pop group in over two decades. Packed with unapologetic confidence, bilingual hooks, and genre-crossing production, the album marks a new chapter for homegrown music that is proudly Indian yet universally relatable.
Launched in March 2024 under the creative guidance of music director Mikey McCleary, W.i.S.H. — comprising four dynamic young women — has quickly built a devoted fanbase called the 'WishStars." Now, with Sweetburn, they're not just making music, they're rewriting the rules for what an Indian girl group can sound and look like.
At a time when female artists are often reduced to stock stereotypes — 'the good girl," 'the wild one," 'the heartbreaker" — W.i.S.H. pushes back. Sweetburn celebrates the complexity of being young, creative, and unapologetically yourself. It's 'equal parts sweet and savage, soft and unfiltered, polished and personal," as the group puts it. From intimate bedroom-pop ballads to high-energy bangers, the record refuses to be boxed into any single genre or narrative.
'Sweetburn is for every girl who's ever been told to tone it down," the members of W.i.S.H. say. 'It's messy, magical, moody, flirty, fierce — just like us. We're not here to fit in, we're here to take up space. We hope audiences and WishStars relate to this and continue to love and support us. So stream it and scream it because it's our Sweetburn era."
Musically, the album pulls from a broad sonic palette: the bounce of Afro-pop, the shimmer of synth-pop, the punch of electronic beats, and even flourishes of Indian classical music. Produced by McCleary alongside Parth Parekh, Sweetburn maintains a fresh, youthful energy while staying rooted in a distinctly contemporary Indian identity.
The lead single, 'Bolo Bolo" featuring Panther, dropped last month and has already gone viral thanks to its irresistible hookstep, trending not just in India but globally. Other highlights include 'Drameboss," a swaggering anthem dripping with main character energy; 'Ishaare," a flirtatious track laced with classical influences; and 'Mera Aasmaan," a funk-infused empowerment song about reaching for your dreams. The tracklist also features early fan favourites like 'Lazeez," 'Galti," and the cheeky breakup-detox bop 'Therapy."
Visually, W.i.S.H. leans into desi-glam aesthetics, pairing slick choreography with styling that blends traditional Indian elements and modern pop star polish. It's a look and sound designed to resonate with a generation that's just as comfortable streaming K-pop and Afrobeat as it is dancing to Bollywood hits.
With Sweetburn, W.i.S.H. isn't just introducing themselves to the world — they're making a statement. This is bold, bilingual, and boundary-pushing pop with something to say, and the message is clear: the new era of Indian girl groups has officially begun.

From Raid 2 to Kung Fu Hustle, watch these 5 trending films that will leave you stunned with its climax, streaming on...
Few movies in the action, suspense, and emotion genres stand out, weaving cinematic tales that thrill us. Here is a list of some of the best action-packed films currently streaming on Netflix. Each has its own unique flavors, impressive stunts, or unfathomable plots that are guaranteed to engage and entertain. Raid 2 (IMDb: 8.0) Raid 2, featuring Ajay Devgn and Riteish Deshmukh, is gripping Indian action thriller that continues the story of a valiant police officer battling crime and corruption. This film's intense action scenes and strong performances make it a mainstay of favorites among high-octane Bollywood thriller fans. Kung Fu Hustle (IMDb: 7.7) This film carries a rare mix of humor and heightened martial arts action. The film retains comic book logic, following a two-bit crook trying to bust into a dangerous gang when he stumbles onto secret martial arts masters in his old neighborhood. It features over-the-top fighting and plenty of laughs, amplifying the action and humor for primo entertainment. My Oxford Year (IMDb: 6.8) It is an overseas youth development domestic film. It tells the story of a young student studying abroad in Oxford. The student is a happy dream chaser, who struggles to adapt to a demanding new environment and a foreign culture while pursuing her studies in architecture. Though less action-oriented, the film has emotional depth, offering a coming-of-age tale with a little more than a flavor of personal growth. Extraction (IMDb: 6.7) This high-octane thriller shows off a dynamic performance by Chris Hemsworth as a black ops mercenary given the impossible job of rescuing a crime lord's son from a hostile city. Relentless action makes the film scarcely able to breathe, and while the direction lacks finesse, the movie compensates with sheer audacity. The Night Comes for Us (IMDb: 7.0) This film from Indonesia, an action spectacle, follows a triad enforcer who is torn between giving in to the triad and doing the right thing. It's known for its violence and the intricate choreography of that violence. Action movie aficionados are guaranteed a visceral experience that pushes the boundaries of action cinema.

Rs 90L in subsidies, but artisans still struggle with rising costs

(PTI Photo)(PTI08_13_2025_000314B) Karad: An artist gives finishing touches to an idol of Lord Ganesha ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi festival, in Karad, Maharashtra. (PTI Photo) (PTI08_08_2025_000137B) Despite the corporation's subsidy scheme, traditional idol makers struggle with rising costs, insufficient aid, and labour shortages. Morajkar said the survey to identify PoP idol sales began on Aug 8, and so far, GHRSSIDC's inspection has flagged none. He said that the inspection will continue until Aug 24. 'Local mud clay idols are the customer's first choice, due to our awareness campaigns. The Shadu Mati and coconut fibre idols from Maharashtra are in demand, but not as much as the local clay ones,' Morajkar told TOI . GHRSSIDC offers a subsidy of Rs 250 per idol for up to 250 idols to the local idol makers. As of July 2025, GHRSSIDC received 367 local vendor applications for registration. In 2024, 475 vendors received subsidies totalling Rs 90.5 lakh on the sale of 45,248 idols, Morajkar said. Pernem, Sattari, and Bicholim talukas have the highest concentration of traditional idol makers in Goa. 'Earlier, we used to get the Chikal Mati at Rs 20,000 for a 10m truck. Now, the prices have risen to Rs 25,000,' said Bicholim sculptor Durgaram Shet. Local artisans allege the PoP idol ban is not strictly enforced. The clay idols are heavier, with rich colours being another distinguishing feature. Umakant Poke, a third-generation sculptor from Morjim, said that because certain vendors sell PoP idols, local sculptors catch negative attention from handicraft officials. 'They think we are selling PoP idols. We are trying to earn money with our honest efforts,' Poke said. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
