18 days until Saints season opener: Every player to wear No. 18
In just 18 days, the New Orleans Saints will host the Arizona Cardinals in their 2025 regular season opener. There haven't been many that have worn the No. 18 in Saints history. Here's a look at the full list of the players who have worn the jersey.
Saints' History of No. 18
Hugo Hollas wore No. 18 first with the Saints, recording 11 interceptions and 3 fumble recoveries over a three-season stint. His 5 interceptions in 1970 and 1971 led the team each year. He is the only defensive player to date that has worn No. 18 for the franchise. His 35 games are the second most of any New Orleans player to wear No. 18.
Dave Wilson was selected first overall by the Saints in the 1981 supplemental draft, costing New Orleans their first-round draft choice the following season. Wilson was a collegiate star for the Illinois Fighting Illini, but never came close to living up to expectations as a pro. He started four games as a rookie but missed the 1982 season with a knee injury. Despite numerous opportunities, Wilson was never able to hold on to the starting job with New Orleans.
Nevertheless, his 53 games over seven seasons are the most for anyone to wear No. 18 for the Saints. Wilson made 31 starts at quarterback, resulting in a 12-19 record. He completed a lowly 53% of his throws for 6,987 yards with 36 touchdown passes and 55 interceptions. The 1981 Saints finished with a 4-12 record, which would have resulted in the third overall choice in the 1982 draft if not forfeited because of Wilson. In that draft, future Hall of Famers Mike Munchak and Marcus Allen, along with multi-time Pro Bowlers Jim McMahon, Gerald Riggs, Mike Quick, and Roy Foster were first-round selections.
Another Wilson got his turn at quarterback wearing No. 18 for the Saints in 1993. Wade Wilson was a standout for the Minnesota Vikings through the 1980s and early 1990s before joining New Orleans. Wilson was with the team for two years and was their starter in 1993. With the Saints, Wilson had a 57.9% completion percentage with 2,629 yards, 12 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions.
Terry Guess is the only one of two out of the 10 players who have worn No. 18 to be chosen in the regular draft by the Saints. A fifth round choice in 1996 out of Gardner-Webb, Guess is also one of only five players from that school to play in the NFL. He lasted only one season in the league, suiting up in three games and catching 2 passes for 69 yards and a touchdown.
Aaron Brooks is given the credit for the 2000 Saints surprising run to a division title and the franchise's first playoff victory. What some forget is that it was Jeff Blake that was the starter to begin that season, engineering the Saints to a 7-4 mark before suffering a broken foot. Blake was brought in that year after a career with nice numbers, but not many wins with the Cincinnati Bengals. In those 11 starts for New Orleans, Blake completed 60.7% of his passes for 2,025 yards with 14 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. With Brooks' sudden success, Blake wouldn't start another game for the Saints and left after 2001 to finish out his career with four different teams in his last four years.
Terrance Copper was a valuable backup wideout on the first New Orleans teams under Sean Payton and Drew Brees. In three years with the Saints, Copper had 38 receptions for 511 yards and 5 touchdowns. His 35 games in No. 18 are the third-most of any Saint to wear that jersey.
Keith Kirkwood made the New Orleans roster in 2018 as an undrafted rookie. He was with the Saints for two separate stints, wearing No. 18 both times for a total of 27 games. Kirkwood was mostly used on special teams, but wound up with 20 receptions for 264 yards and 3 scores.
A Round 5 selection, 150th overall, in the 2024 NFL draft from the South Carolina Gamecocks, Spencer Rattler is the highest drafted player by the Saints to wear No. 18. He'd make six starts as a rookie, with New Orleans losing all seven of his game appearances. Rattler had a 57% completion percentage, throwing for 1,317 yards with 4 touchdowns, 5 interceptions, and 5 fumbles. He switched to No. 2 this season, as he's competing with rookie second round choice Tyler Shough for the team's starting quarterback job.

Simi Fehoko staking a claim to a roster spot in Cardinals receivers room
Fehoko is a newcomer to the receiver room, but there are familiar faces for him. The Arizona Cardinals currently have 16 wide receivers or tight ends on the 91-player roster and three are from Stanford — wide receivers Michael Wilson and Simi Fehoko and tight end Elijah Higgins. That total is nearly 10 percent of the 31 Stanford players currently on NFL rosters or reserve lists. Wilson was selected by the Cardinals in the third round of the 2023 draft, while Higgins was a sixth-round pick in Miami, but was cut in the roster reduction to 53 and was claimed by the Cardinals. Fehoko was drafted by the Cowboys in the fifth round in 2021, was briefly on the Steelers practice squad in 2023 before being signed by the Chargers. He became an unrestricted free agent this past March and to say his signing by the Cardinals was under the radar would be a significant understatement. Now, Fehoko has a solid chance of being on the 53-man roster thanks to his versatility and ability on special teams after scoring the game's only touchdown in Saturday's loss to the Broncos. Head coach Jonathan Gannon said on Monday that Fehoko 'made some plays on teams.' Then, Marvin Harrison Jr. sent some accolades Fehoko's way Monday when he said, 'He's been great. I think he's made everybody, especially in the route running, come back to the ball. He does a great job with that. And I asked him, 'Where'd you get that from?' He's like, 'After my rookie year, kind of something I had to develop just for me to get the separation, make the play.' 'So, I think he's definitely elevated everybody's game from certain standpoints. I think he's done a great job with that. I mean, his ball skills are tremendous and the way he can come back to the football definitely has helped me and made sure that I can take that from his game.' For his part, Fehoko is glad to be reunited with Wilson and Higgins. Asked about Wilson's growth, Fehoko said, 'I mean he's a whole different player than when I was with him in college. So, it's awesome to see, not only how his game has developed and now how he's a true threat in the league. So, super cool to see. He dealt with so much in college with all the injuries and barely played. 'He and I were freshman roommates. We came in first day together and we were roomed together, and he's always had that hard-work mentality, and it's awesome to see it finally pay off here and finally get the recognition he deserves.' As for Higgins making the transition from college wide receiver to tight end, Fehoko said, 'We always made fun of him for being a little too big in the receiver room, but now it sort of makes sense and he's doing well as a tight end.' Clemson QB Cade Klubnik's NFL Future Just Drew a Striking Forecast
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Clemson Tigers and quarterback Cade Klubnik are receiving a lot of hype entering the 2025 college football season. After a surprising run to the College Football Playoff last season, the sky is the limit for the team this year. Led by Dabo Swinney, the Tigers are always going to be a competitive football team. Klubnik's breakout season in 2024 has placed them on the map as one of the top potential national championship contenders in the nation. Klubnik was originally expected to be a college superstar when he committed to Clemson. It took more time than expected, but he seems to be back on track. Read more: Longhorns' Arch Manning Walks Back Grandfather's NFL Comments To that end, a new projection has forecasted a very bright future for Klubnik. ESPN's Field Yates released a new 2026 NFL mock draft. He projected the Tigers' quarterback to be the No. 3 overall pick by the New Orleans Saints. "Klubnik would become the first quarterback taken in the first round by the Saints since Archie Manning in 1971," Yates wrote. "New Orleans bypassed the position at No. 9 in April, but it'd be hard to do it again in the top five next year. Klubnik is a mechanically sound and accurate passer who accounted for 43 total touchdowns during his breakout 2024 season (36 passing, seven rushing). He lacks elite size at 6-foot-2 and 210 pounds, but he'd offer the Saints some stability at QB as they reset their roster." Landing with the Saints would give Klubnik a chance to hit the ground running in the NFL. Right now, New Orleans has a wide open quarterback situation with Tyler Shough and Spencer Rattler leading the way. If Klubnik continues to develop his game and lives up to his potential, he would likely become the instant starter with the Saints if no other quarterback moves were made. Read more: Clemson QB Cade Klubnik Draws Jaw-Dropping National Prediction During the 2024 college football season at Clemson, Klubnik completed 63.4 percent of his pass attempts for 3,639 yards, 36 touchdowns, and six interceptions. He also ran for 463 yards and seven touchdowns. There are still things he needs to proved, but Klubnik seems to be the real deal. Assuming he lives up to the hype in 2025, being a top-three pick in the 2026 NFL Draft certainly seems to be a real possibility. Aaron Rodgers on Roman Wilson: Steelers are 'Going to Hold Him to High Standard'
National Football League Aaron Rodgers on Roman Wilson: Steelers are 'Going to Hold Him to High Standard' Published Aug. 20, 2025 12:12 p.m. ET share facebook x reddit link Second-year Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Roman Wilson is turning heads this summer, and that includes the one who will be throwing him passes. "I think he's improving every day. You can't skew the results from the details. You look at his game the other night, he made a couple splash plays. But we're going to coach him hard," Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers said about Wilson on Tuesday, according to Pro Football Talk. "His receiver coach, [offensive coordinator] Art [Smith], and myself on the details, because the details are what make the difference. And even though he had a couple of big plays, there's some room for improvement there. "Wouldn't say anything if we just thought he was going to be a guy, just any guy that you could throw in. But I think he has a chance to be a big-time talent in the league. So, we're going to hold him to a high standard. I'm really happy with him, the way he's played. But we're going to hold him to a standard of excellence that I think he's capable of reaching." After reeling in each of his two targets for 24 yards in Pittsburgh's Week 1 preseason matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Wilson tallied two receptions once more in its Week 2 preseason matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, with them going for a combined 72 yards, those being 42- and 30-yard pickups. Wilson only appeared in one game in his 2024 rookie campaign due to ankle and hamstring injuries. Pittsburgh selected the receiver with the No. 84 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft out of Michigan, whom he helped win the National Championship in his 2023 senior season. ADVERTISEMENT In said championship season (2023), Wilson totaled 48 receptions for 789 yards (16.4 yards per reception) and 12 touchdowns, leading the Wolverines in all four categories. Wilson is part of a Steelers wide receiver room that now includes two-time Pro Bowler DK Metcalf and veteran Robert Woods; Pittsburgh traded previous No. 1 receiver George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys in May. Wilson is also joined by wide receiver Calvin Austin III, among others. The 41-year-old Rodgers, a four-time NFL MVP, signed a one-year deal with the Steelers in June after spending the previous two seasons with the New York Jets (2023-24). Last season, Rodgers totaled 3,897 passing yards, 28 passing touchdowns, 11 interceptions and a 90.5 passer rating, while completing 63.0% of his passes. Rodgers, Wilson and the Steelers close out their 2025 preseason on the road against the Carolina Panthers on Thursday night and, ironically, open their regular season on the road against the Jets, who now have Justin Fields under center – Fields made six starts for Pittsburgh last season – on Sept. 7.
