What brand of car battery would you recommend?

Yahoo04-04-2025

A: There are really only about four or five automotive battery manufacturers that make batteries under different brand names.
At AAA, our batteries are Interstate. Interstate is a battery-marketing and distribution company. Typically, Interstate batteries are manufactured by Clarios and Exide. When it comes to buying a battery, look for cold cranking ratings, reserve capacity and warranty.
Q: I have a 2024 Chevrolet Equinox. When I take my foot off the gas and the car slows down, the motor has a loud hum until it stops. It sounds like a truck. At idle, it is normal. Have you heard anyone else complain about this?
When I take it back to Chevrolet, what should I tell the service technician? I had a 2016 Equinox, and it did not do that.
A: I have not heard anyone complain about this issue. General Motors did have a problem with a transmission torque converter and even extended the warranty. This could be the source of the noise.
At this point, I would do two things: Take a technician for a ride so they can hear and feel what you do. If they pronounce it normal, then ask to take another Equinox for a ride to verify that this is a characteristic of the model and not a problem.
Q: have a 2019 Honda Accord that I love, but it is in the shop for the third time because the front radar camera got stolen and it's likely that rats ate some wires in my engine. It appears that this car is bait for both crooks and rats.
As soon as the car is fixed, I am trading it in for, hopefully, a less hassle-prone car. I am looking at Toyota, Subaru and Mazda mid-sized SUVs.
Are there any cars that are less rat-prone? Are there any cars that have less of a risk of radar camera theft?
A: Unfortunately, rodents do not discriminate. They seem to like all cars. There was some thought that cars today are more appealing to rodents due to the more environmentally friendly products. I am not sure that is true. I think it has to do more with the rodent population.
Honda does have rodent-proof tape containing a form of hot pepper that you can wrap around the wires.
As for radar camera theft prevention, some car parts have particular value to thieves, such as air bags, wheels, catalytic converters and now, apparently, radar cameras. The same rules apply to preventing auto theft: hide valuables, lock the car and park in well-lit areas.
Q: I hear a rattling sound as if something is loose in the engine area. It happens when I start the car cold. I hear it intermittently when I am driving. Any idea what I should look for? The car is a 2018 Honda CR-V with low mileage.
A: The most common issue is a loose exhaust heat shield. When the engine warms up, the exhaust system expands and quiets the rattle. This should be easy to verify with the car up on a lift.
Another common issue is with the rubber damper caps on the front struts. Remove the caps, and if the rattle is not present you can buy updated caps that will quiet the noise.
Q: I recently purchased a 2024 Jeep Wrangler Willys 4xe with "Wildpeak Falken" LT285/70R17 116/1130 tires. This is my first 'hybrid' vehicle. The 'sticker' gas − only miles per gallon − was published as 20 mpg. I have had it for 12 weeks and I am getting 14 mpg. I have gone back to the dealership twice thinking I must be doing something wrong.
Are these advertised gas mileages an average of all trim lines (and tires) or for the specific vehicle (with those specific tires)?
A: The EPA gas mileage ration is not average of all trims but for your model.
Yes, on the fueleconomy.gov website, your model shows 20 mpg. They do not show a Falken tire option on the Wrangler-E. They do show the Falken vs Pirelli option on other models. The Falken tires are a little better regarding fuel economy. Keep in mind the gas engine does not break in for several thousand miles.
Also, the winter temperatures have been cold. Idling, combined with the winter mix of gasoline, can reduce fuel economy.
In my opinion, fuel economy is usually determined by the driver.

The 10 best compact crossover SUVs according to Consumer Reports

Compact crossover SUVs - like Toyota's RAV4 and Honda's CR-V - have grown into one of the most popular segments of the auto market. As the fuel economy and safety features in sport utility vehicles have improved in recent years, more and more car buyers have been opting for small SUVs over sedans and compact cars. A compact crossover SUV is a small sport utility vehicle that combines SUV features (like higher clearance and all-wheel or four-wheel drive) with sedan features (like a more compact size, smaller engine, easy handling, and fuel efficiency). Most newer compact crossovers are small, safe, and fuel-efficient enough to serve as daily drivers in the city and suburbs, but they also boast decent clearance and AWD or 4WD, so they can double as capable weekenders for dirt-road camping, light snow driving, and general outdoor recreation. Additionally, many compact crossover models now offer buyers a choice between a traditional and hybrid engine, and while the hybrid versions tend to be significantly more expensive, they can save drivers money on gas, especially during highway driving. And since most weekend getaways to remote areas begin with a long drive on a highway, this can be a big plus for those who plan to use their compact SUV for outdoor adventure. One great resource is Consumer Reports, a nonprofit agency that has been testing and reviewing products for almost a century. How to deal with potholes in Colorado

MORRISON, Colo. (KDVR) — A major pothole on eastbound Interstate 70 near the Morrison exit brought traffic to a halt on Friday and left several drivers dealing with unexpected car damage. Denver bar announces final day of business after nearly 30 years The Colorado Department of Transportation said the pothole formed rapidly around 7:30 a.m. during heavy rain. It opened up on a section of bridge deck that's already under construction as part of a larger resurfacing project. 'A large pothole quickly formed in a span of 20 to 30 minutes… CDOT crews immediately responded with lane closures, and contractor crews will work through the afternoon to make sustainable repairs,' the department said in a statement. Two eastbound lanes near the Morrison exit were closed while crews scrambled to patch the damage. By Friday evening, one lane had reopened. Skyler McKinley with AAA said while potholes are a part of life on Colorado roads, this one was unusually disruptive. 'This is a factor of life, we do get bad potholes in Colorado, it's rare that we have a catastrophic one,' McKinley said. 'The catastrophic ones are fixed quickly because everyone's going to be watching this on the news—including the folks in charge of repairing the potholes.' Multiple FOX31 viewers reported damage to their vehicles after hitting the pothole. McKinley said even a brief jolt from a pothole can have lasting impacts, and warns drivers to stay alert for subtle changes in their car's performance. 'Potholes and hitting potholes can cause irreparable suspension damage,' McKinley said. 'So if you notice anything in your vehicle—steering, vibrating, sounds you weren't used to, delayed steering, gumminess, tackiness, anything has changed in your driving experience? In the hours, days, weeks after you hit a pothole, take that to a mechanic as soon as you can.' He added that quick action is key when it comes to insurance claims and repair timelines. 'If you hit a pothole and you know something is wrong, go to your mechanic and call your insurer immediately thereafter,' McKinley said. 'And if you haven't hit a Colorado pothole yet—we get them bad because of the thawing and freezing on our roadway—consider upgrading your insurance.' According to AAA, the average out-of-pocket repair bill for pothole-related damage can top $500, depending on the severity. Over 800 flights delayed amid storms on Friday, 24 canceled CDOT reminds drivers to slow down in work zones and report roadway hazards when possible. The agency said construction on that stretch of I-70 typically takes place overnight, and as of Friday night, one lane is back open. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. These 10 SUVs Have Shockingly Low Lease Payments Right Now

Leasing an SUV in June 2025 is looking more appealing than ever. With new models hitting showrooms and automakers eager to move inventory, many leases now offer low monthly payments, minimal down payments, and impressive standard features. If you're keeping a close eye on your monthly budget, you'll be glad to know that most of the SUVs featured this month can be leased for less than $300 per month. From roomy subcompacts to midsize crossovers, this month's lease offers represent a wide range of body styles, capabilities, and tech features. Keep in mind that while the pricing outlined below is available nationally, incentives often vary by region and dealership. Also, don't forget to factor in taxes, title, license fees, and any possible loyalty or conquest bonuses that might apply. The 2025 Kia Seltos continues to impress after last year's update. It offers more interior room than many rivals in its class, along with a comfortable ride and smart tech. The lease special for June applies to the base LX trim, which comes standard with all-wheel drive-a feature not often included at this price point. For $3,499 down and $259 a month over 36 months, drivers can get into a well-rounded and stylish subcompact SUV that feels bigger than it is. It's a solid pick for first-time leasers or budget-conscious buyers who need something reliable year-round. Honda's smallest SUV, the HR-V, continues to stand out for its efficient use of space and thoughtful design. For 2025, every HR-V includes driver assistance features and active noise cancellation technology, making it an ideal pick for city drivers who want peace and quiet on the go. Leases for the two-wheel-drive LX start at $289 per month with $3,299 due at signing. The price-to-space ratio here is among the best in the subcompact class, especially for those prioritizing a quiet, comfortable ride. The 2025 Chevrolet Trax was redesigned last year, and the results were impressive. With more interior space, modern tech, and a sharp new exterior, it offers a surprising amount of practicality at an approachable price. This month's lease deal is aimed at current lessees of 2020 or newer models, offering the midlevel LT trim for $279 a month with just $1,789 down over 24 months. It's a short-term lease with low upfront costs-perfect for those who value flexibility. Recently redesigned, the 2025 Hyundai Kona continues to offer an appealing blend of style and functionality. Its larger size provides better rear legroom and cargo capacity than older models, and standard safety tech helps it stand out in a crowded segment. This month's deal applies to the SEL trim, which balances affordability with useful upgrades. For $3,999 down and $249 a month for 36 months, the Kona is one of the most accessible subcompacts on the market. For drivers looking to lease something a little more capable, the 2025 Subaru Outback remains a compelling choice. With standard all-wheel drive and a reputation for long-term dependability, the Outback is built for families, weekend warriors, and commuters alike. June's lease deal applies to the Base trim, with a monthly payment of $299 and $3,049 due at signing over a standard 36-month term. That's excellent value for a midsize SUV with real capability and a strong list of standard safety features. Those looking for a more premium feel in a compact SUV should consider the 2025 Mazda CX-50. The 2.5 S Preferred trim comes with all-wheel drive, top-tier safety ratings, and an upscale cabin. While it's more expensive than some competitors, it offers a richer driving experience with engaging dynamics and intuitive controls. The lease special comes in at $321 per month with $3,999 down for 36 months. While it's one of the few deals on this list that pushes past the $300 threshold, the added quality and driving enjoyment help justify the extra cost. The 2025 Chevrolet Equinox has undergone a complete redesign, resulting in a more refined and rugged appearance while retaining its city-friendly size, which has made it a favorite among commuters. With a quiet cabin and solid acceleration, it offers a comfortable ride that won't wear you out in traffic. Dual displays, heated front seats, and Chevy's comprehensive Safety Assist suite come standard. This month, lessees can sign for a front-wheel-drive LT model at $249 per month with $4,029 due at signing for 36 months. The deal is available to current lessees of 2020 or newer vehicles, and with an MSRP under $30,000, it's one of the best value plays for a compact SUV this summer. With a recent refresh, the 2025 Hyundai Tucson adds subtle design updates and more interior tech while keeping its value-focused reputation intact. The base SE trim, available this month at $259 per month with $3,999 down for 36 months, comes with an impressive suite of safety features and a spacious, quiet interior. Buyers looking for just a bit more comfort might want to step up to the SEL trim for only $10 more per month. The small bump in price gets you amenities like a power liftgate, heated mirrors, and push-button start, making it a great value for those willing to spend just a bit more. Kia continues to pack a punch in the compact SUV market with the 2025 Sportage. The LX trim, available this month for $259 per month with $3,999 down over 36 months, comes well-equipped and boasts a ride quality that feels like it belongs in a more expensive vehicle. If you want more traction, you can upgrade to all-wheel drive for only $20 more per month. With best-in-class warranty coverage and Kia's Drive Wise suite of driver assistance features, the Sportage offers one of the strongest all-around values in this month's crop of lease deals. Buick's 2025 Envista stands out with its coupe-inspired looks, roomy cabin, and whisper-quiet ride. The base Preferred trim, available to current lessees of 2020 or newer vehicles, can be leased for $229 per month with $3,709 down over 24 months. Standard equipment includes wireless smartphone connectivity, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, and lane-keeping assist. If you want a touch of luxury without paying luxury-brand prices, the Envista could be your best bet. June presents a wealth of SUV lease opportunities, whether you're drawn to the rugged versatility of the Subaru Outback, the upscale charm of the Mazda CX-50, or the budget-friendly appeal of the Chevrolet Trax and Buick Envista. Many of these deals feature monthly payments well under $300 and provide a great way to drive a new, tech-packed SUV without committing to long-term ownership. As always, be sure to check with your local dealership for region-specific pricing and read the fine print to make sure the lease terms align with your needs. With this month's wide range of offerings, there's likely a lease deal out there that fits both your lifestyle and your wallet. Copyright 2025 The Arena Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved.
