Andy Lock, father of Drew Lock and KC-area restaurateur, dies
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Andy Lock, co-founder of Summit Hospitality Group and father of former Mizzou quarterback Drew Lock, has died.
He was surrounded by family at the time of his passing Thursday morning, the restaurant group said in a statement Friday.
National WWI Museum project halted due to federal cuts
Andy Lock co-founded several restaurants in the Kansas City area, including Summit Grill, Third Street Social, Boru Asian Eatery, Pearl Tavern, South of Summit, and most recently, Neighborhood Cafe in downtown Lee's Summit.
The group called Andy Lock 'a visionary, a mentor, a community-builder, and a friend.'
'His enduring legacy is woven into the very fabric of our restaurants, our teams, and the many communities he helped shape across the Kansas City metro area,' the company said in a statement. 'From the moment he opened the doors of Summit Grill, Andy led with purpose, passion, and an unwavering belief in the power of hospitality to bring people together.'
The group said each restaurant reflected Andy Lock's commitment to excellence.
In 2017, Andy Lock and his business partner, Domhnall Molloy, were named 'Restaurateurs of the Year' by the Greater Kansas City Restaurant Association.
'As our team and the broader hospitality community grieve this tremendous loss, we are also filled with gratitude. We are grateful for Andy's leadership, his friendship, and the indelible impact he made on our lives and the lives of so many others,' the company added in its statement.
Details regarding a memorial service for Andy Lock are expected to be announced in the coming days.
Andy Lock was also a proud father to Drew Lock, who played as Mizzou's starting quarterback from 2015 to 2018. The 28-year-old Lee's Summit native went on to play in the NFL for the Denver Broncos, Seattle Seahawks, and last year, joined the New York Giants.

Early Ranking Signals High Hopes for Mizzou Basketball
Early Ranking Signals High Hopes for Mizzou Basketball originally appeared on Athlon Sports. With the NBA draft withdrawals finalized, and teams starting to come together, numerous sports sites put out their first Top 25 rankings headed into the 2025-26 season. While Missouri was left off most of these lists, The Athletic had Mizzou scribbled in at No. 24. Advertisement The article highlighted the importance of the Tigers returning three starters from their previously Top 25 team. Those returners were Anthony Robinson II, Mark Mitchell and Trent Pierce — all of which had important roles on the team last season. While the team loses key scorers like Caleb Grill and Tamar Bates; Mitchell led Mizzou in scoring with 13.9 points per game with Robinson (9.0) and Pierce (6.7) also adding valuable scoring options. 'Outside shooting could be a concern with the graduation of Grill and Tamar Bates, but Mitchell-Mack-Robinson could end up being one of the better trios in the SEC,' the article said. Advertisement Specifically, the team mentions the front court editions of Jontay Porter — who the article has in the teams starting lineup — Shawn Phillips and Luke Northweather. Phillip, a transfer from Arizona State, provides rim protection while Porter and Northweather offer a big man who can slide out and shoot the three. Trent Burns was also mentioned as a game-changer when it comes to helping the Tigers in the front court. 'The 7-foot-5 Burns, who redshirted as a freshman, can step out and hit a 3. To borrow an old Fran Fraschilla line, he could be a year away from being a year away, but he's a fascinating prospect,' The Athletic said. Sebastian Mack is expected to start in the shooting guard position for the Tigers next season after spending two seasons with UCLA. While Mack averaged 9.6 points per game with the Bruins during his sophomore campaign, The Athletic believes he has another level to his play that he hasn't yet reached. Advertisement 'it feels like he has the potential to be more productive in a high-tempo system like Mizzou's. He should fit nicely in the Tony Perkins role,' the article said. Missouri may not be on every Top 25 list, but with key returners and high-upside newcomers, the Tigers have the tools to make noise in 2025–26. Kansas vs Mizzou Rematch Set as KU Announces Non-Conference Hoops Schedule
Kansas vs Mizzou Rematch Set as KU Announces Non-Conference Hoops Schedule originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Kansas basketball dropped its nonconference schedule headed into the 2025-26 season and Missouri made its fourth consecutive appearance, this time around, on a Sunday at T-Mobile Stadium in Kansas City. Advertisement The Tigers come into this contest after a historical victory over the Jayhawks on Dec. 8, 2024, when the team defeated No. 1 Kansas in Mizzou Arena for its first top-ranked victory since 1997. Mitchell added three blocks and Robinson added five steals, pressing top-ranked Kansas every chance they got. The meeting marks the 273rd time the teams have faced off and the meeting marks the teams second-to-last matchup of its current agreement — an agreement that was renewed in 2019 for six years. The first and last matchups are hold at T-Mobile Center — which was Sprint Center at the time — while the four meetings in between alternated between Missouri and Kansas taking the home court. In 2026-27, the series is adding an extra game due to no matchup being played in 2020. Mizzou hadn't defeated Kansas since 2012 prior to its 2024 victory but with the rivalry running so deep, the Tigers have a 96-175 record against the Jayhawks dating back to the two teams first matchup on March 11, 1907. Advertisement The Tigers will take on the Jayhawks on Dec. 7 at T-Mobile Center in a perfect 'meet me in the middle' location for the two schools. Missouri also has three other confirmed dates for non-conference games. Missouri begins its season in Washington D.C. facing off against Howard on Nov. 3. The team will host Virginia Military Institute on Nov. 9 and will host Bethune-Cookman on Dec. 14. The Tigers will also play Minnesota in early November, Illinois in late December — for the two teams annual Border War — and Mizzou will also face off against an Atlantic Coast Conference team in the annual ACC/SEC Challenge. With their historic upset still fresh and the teams nearing the final chapter of the current rivalry agreement set, Missouri will look to build momentum in its Dec. 7 showdown against Kansas. Mizzou Hoops Reportedly Adds Bethune-Cookman to 2025-26 Schedule
Mizzou Hoops Reportedly Adds Bethune-Cookman to 2025-26 Schedule originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Missouri Tigers men's basketball program is expected to add a new opponent to Mizzou Arena this winter. Advertisement According to a report in the Columbia Daily Tribune, Mizzou is expected to host Bethune-Cookman on December 14. The HBCU team out of Daytona, Florida, will be paid a reported $110,000 to compete in Columbia. Last season, the Wildcats went 17-16 before losing in the second round of the Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament. Theus was drafted ninth overall in 1978 by the Chicago Bulls after an impressive collegiate career at UNLV. He was named an All-Star in the 1981 and 1983 seasons. Mizzou has also added Virginia Military Institute to its 2025-'26 schedule, with the game set for Sunday, Nov. 9 at home, falling on the same weekend the Tigers' football team is set to face conference foe Texas A&M. Though the VMI matchup is early into the season, it's unlikely to be the home opener. Advertisement In every season under head coach Dennis Gates, Mizzou has competed in three games within eight days of the first game. The Tigers announced May 21 that they will open their season on the road against Howard in Washington, D.C., on Monday, Nov. 3. Assuming they follow this timeline, there will likely be another matchup at Mizzou Arena scheduled in between the Howard and VMI tilts. The Tigers competed in 13 nonconference games in November and December of last season, which leaves room for six more opponents to be added this year.
