Kerr confirms sights set on Glasgow 2026
The Olympic silver medalist and current world champion from Edinburgh revealed he is targeting the home event on the back of coasting to victory in the 5,000m at the UK Athletics Championships.
Last week marked the one year to go mark for the Games to return to Scotland, 11 years after the city last hosted the event.
"Of course the Commonwealths are in my plans and on my mind for next year," said Kerr.
"Racing for Team Scotland would be a big deal for me and I feel very lucky we have the Commonwealth Games again coming to the UK. It is going to be in Glasgow and that can be very special.
"It is a big part of my calendar for 2026 and I will look forward to that. The Europeans are in Birmingham a couple of weeks later."
The 28-year-old is currently preparing for his 1500m title defence at the World Championships in September.
And Kerr, who eased to victory over the weekend, says he is keen to give a better account of himself at next year's Games compared to Birmingham three years ago.
The Scot finished 12th in the 1500m, and said: "Last time around, here in Birmingham, it was not a fantastic experience or effort from me - there were lots of reasons for that in the summer of 2022.
"But my job is to perform consistently - and do that for everyone watching and for myself."

Lymm gearing up for challenging season after league reallocation
EIGHT new signings featured for Lymm RFC in their first of three friendlies ahead of a challenging season to be played in a different league with added financial burdens. Lymm, who face a season of more than 4,500 miles of travel to away games, hosted Regional North West 1 side Anselmians on Saturday following a tough, pre-season training programme. A large squad of 42 players took part in a game split over three 30-minute sessions, scoring seven tries and six conversions to Anselmians' three converted tries in a 47-21 win. While generally pleased with the Lymm performance, head coach Andy Davies and defence coach Tom Bray identified areas of the team's game structure that needs improvement. These will hopefully be addressed in this week's training and Saturday's warm-up encounter away to National 2 North club Fylde, kick-off 2.30pm. 'It was a great first hit out against a tough Anselmians team who have improved greatly since we played them last pre-season,' said Davies. 'We had some new and young lads playing who showed up really well. 'Still lots to work on before the season opener so we'll keep on pushing for the remainder of pre-season.' New signings involved on Saturday were forwards Sam Wickes, Sam Beahan, Harry Wasdell, Lewis Stewart, Dalitso Ngoma, Tom Elphick, Dan McQuade and back, Matty Hope. Lymm's final pre-season game is on Friday, August 22 at home to Regional North West 1 club, Stockport, kick-off 7.30pm. The team's 2025/26 season in National League 2 West starts on Saturday, September 6, away to Luctonians. The Rugby Football Union have removed Lymm from National 2 North in which last season they played teams from the north west and Yorkshire and finished third, their highest position ever. Instead they have been moved sidewards into a league still at level four in the English rugby union system but provides semi-professional competition for teams in the midlands and south west. Lymm will be the most northerly club in the competition and will face expensive trips to far-flung clubs such as Exeter in Devon, and Camborne and Redruth in Cornwall. Teams making up National League 2 West in 2025/26: Lymm, Chester, Barnstaple, Camborne, Cinderford, Exeter University, Hinckley, Hornets, Loughborough Students, Luctonians, Old Redcliffians, Redruth, Syston, Taunton Titans. Announcing the sideways move, a Lymm statement reads: 'For a village club like ours – run by volunteers, supported by generous sponsors and powered by players who give their all for the love of the game – this represents one of the biggest logistical and financial challenges in our club's history.' In an act of defiance, veteran cyclist and former Lymm player Paul Foulkes, 75, is determined to raise funds for Lymm Rugby Club by cycling 580k (360 miles) in five days, from Lymm to Redruth. 'I decided I would like to diffuse my annoyance and frustration by turning this into a personal challenge, and cycle the whole distance from Lymm Rugby Club in Cheshire to Redruth Rugby Club in Cornwall,' said Paul, who has been a member, and latterly a vice president, of Lymm RFC, a registered charity, for more than 58 years. 'I hope to arrive in time for the first fixture ever between these two sides on Saturday, September 20. 'As well as being a personal challenge I am hoping people will get behind this gesture of personal defiance, against what I believe is a perverse decision. 'I am hoping the people of Cheshire, and the whole rugby community, will help raise as much as possible for the registered charity that is Lymm Rugby Club, funding not only the first team journeys but also the ongoing development of this brilliant and outstanding, community-based rugby club.' Ex-Premier League referee David Coote given eight-week ban over Jurgen Klopp comments
Ex-Premier League referee David Coote has been banned for eight weeks for comments about former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp. The Football Association (FA) said Coote had also been ordered to do a "face-to-face education programme". Coote previously admitted using abusive or insulting words about Klopp in a video recorded around July 2020, which appeared on social media in November 2024. In the clip, he describes Klopp as a "German c***" and calls him "f****** arrogant". The FA said his actions amounted to an "aggravated breach" as his words included a reference to the German manager's nationality. Coote said during the investigation that it did not reflect his true feeling towards Klopp, for whom he has a "deep professional respect". The FA's report said Coote had also expressed "deep remorse" and admitted his remarks were "crass" and "inappropriate". He has apologised to Klopp personally, as well as the FA, the Professional Game Match Officials (PGMOL) and the wider football community. Coote's eight-week ban covers "all football and football related activity". Referees' body PGMOL . It said it had found he was "in serious breach of the provisions of his employment contract, with his position deemed untenable". The FA cleared him earlier this summer of other allegations of gambling misconduct. I take full responsibility for my actions, which fell way below what was expected of me. "I am truly sorry for any offence caused by my actions and for the negative spotlight it put on the game that I love."
