BUKIT MERTAJAM: The Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) said all enforcement actions taken by its officers are conducted fairly and professionally, in accordance with legal provisions and standard operating procedures (SOP).
In a statement today, MBSP said it is aware of a video circulating on TikTok that alleges misconduct in the seizure and return of confiscated items by its enforcement officers.
'Anyone with disputes or allegations should lodge an official complaint with MBSP to enable the matter to be reviewed and investigated based on evidence and facts.
'The spread of unverified information does not help the situation and may mislead the public and disrupt legitimate enforcement efforts,' the statement said.
MBSP also reaffirmed its commitment to accountability and integrity, stating that it will not tolerate any form of misconduct by its personnel and that disciplinary action will be taken if there is a breach of the code of conduct.
The council added that it will continue to carry out enforcement duties responsibly, firmly and transparently, in line with its mandate to safeguard public interests and the sustainability of the city.
Earlier, a man uploaded a video to his TikTok account, accusing MBSP enforcement officers of failing to return all confiscated items to traders despite full payment of the issued compound.

KUALA LUMPUR: A hawker has gone viral on social media after claiming to have been scammed by a customer who allegedly paid with a counterfeit RM100 note. The mixed fritter trader, who shared the incident via the TikTok account @kakemikitchen, expressed frustration over being scammed during a routine sale. "Even small-time traders get cheated with counterfeit money," she wrote in the caption of the video. In the video, the seller explained that the note initially appeared genuine, complete with what seemed like watermark features and the image of the first Yang di-Pertuan Agong. The forgery was only discovered later when water came into contact with the note, causing the ink to bleed and the colours to fade, a telltale sign of a counterfeit. "You be the judge. Does this look like real money to you?" the seller asked. The incident drew widespread sympathy from the social media platform users, many of whom expressed outrage over the use of fake currency against small business operators. User @wiwisofia8 said; "How could they have the heart to pay with counterfeit money? May Allah replace it (the trader) with something better." Another user @abdulhadi8519 said; "Scammers often take advantage of busy and hectic moments. So in the future, be sure to thoroughly check any cash received, especially when there's a crowd." User @becaantik said; "Use QR code, it is safer that way." Some of the users also suggested precautionary steps such as checking notes under UV light or adopting digital payment methods like QR codes. Others also said that the customer may not have known the note was counterfeit.

KUALA LUMPUR, June 19 — A masseuse pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to a charge of uploading a video and a picture of a fake marriage certificate between a royal and herself last February. Persana Avril Sollunda, 43, is charged with making and sending a fake video on the TikTok application through the account ' showing a fake marriage certificate between a royal and Crown Princess Ratu Shana with the intention of hurting others last February 25. The post was read at the Cyber Crime and Multimedia Investigation Division, Commercial Crime Investigation Department, Bukit Aman Police Headquarters, Menara KPJ, near here at 10.00am last February 26. The charge, under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 [Act 588] and punishable under Section 233(3) of the same law, provides a maximum fine of RM500,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years or both, upon conviction, and may be fined a further RM5,000 for each day or part of a day the offence continues after conviction. Judge Norma Ismail allowed the woman bail of RM10,000 with one surety and an order for her to report to a police station once a month pending disposal of the case. The court set July 17 for mention. The court had issued a warrant of arrest against Persana Avril last May 22 when she failed to turn up to face the charge. Deputy public prosecutor Nursyuhada Husna Sulaiman appeared for the prosecution today, while Persana Avril was unrepresented. — Bernama
