Queen comforts girlfriend of late jockey at Cheltenham Festival
Camilla kissed and put a reassuring arm on Charlotte Giles when she joined trainer Barry Connell on the winning podium after his horse, Marine Nationale, won the feature race of the day, the Queen Mother Champion Chase.
The thoroughbred was ridden to victory in the Supreme Novices' Hurdle in 2023 by O'Sullivan who died last month from his injuries following a fall at Thurles Racecourse, Co Tipperary, in his native Ireland.
He was honoured on the first day of the festival on Tuesday when the announcer ushered in the start of the race renamed the Michael O'Sullivan Supreme Novices' Hurdle.
Connell was keen to dedicate the success on Wednesday to O'Sullivan, with his former retained rider's girlfriend part of the pre-race preparations for Marine Nationale and the post-race celebrations.
He said: 'Charlotte was helping to tack him up and we got her in the photograph. I've spent a good bit of time with her in the last couple of weeks, and the family as well, and any little thing we can do to help everybody involved we will do.
'It's been a heart-wrenching time for everybody. I'm sure he would be proud.'
The Queen ended her day at the premier meet for jump jockeys by presenting the Queen Mother Champion Chase trophies to Connell and jockey Sean Flanagan, after spending time in the royal box with her family and other royals.
She was joined by festival stalwarts Zara and Mike Tindall, Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank and her children Tom Parker Bowles and Laura Lopes, with their father and her former husband Andrew Parker Bowles also part of the group.
Snow had greeted early risers at the famous racecourse but Camilla arrived in sunshine as punters poured through the gates ahead of the first race.
The festival is a huge event in the area with bars, hotels and pubs filled in nearby Cheltenham and, alongside a normal trolley service, one train, from Paddington, to the town's main station, had another trolley selling just cans of beer.
Camilla has a keen interest in the equestrian world, regularly attending major racing meets such as Royal Ascot and the Cheltenham Festival and is associated with a number of equine charities including The British Equestrian Federation and the Ebony Horse Club.
She was recently announced as the royal patron of the British Racing School which trains the next generation in the horse racing industry.

"According to other victims, this individual has allegedly set fires, made bomb threats, and has even threatened to blow up children at their schools. I'm not opposing the short-priced favourite. O'Brien's colt has done little wrong this season, following up his Epsom success with victory, albeit far from impressive, in the Irish equivalent. On ratings he has achieved miles more than most of these, and while some of course are open to improvement he should take all the beating again under Moore. ITALY goes in the Group 3 Tattersalls Acomb for colts and geldings. O'Brien surely knows where he is with big rival Distance Storm having sent out the horse who got closest to the unbeaten Godolphin runner at Newmarket 40 days ago. A son of Wootton Bassett, Italy looked very good on debut but ultimately was beaten by Godolphin's Saba Desert in the Group 2 Superlative. That, of course, means Charlie Appleby has a strong guide too! I'm sticking with Italy mainly because he has that bit more experience and I was left thinking he wasn't quite at his best in the Superlative. More Moore. ITV Racing start at York with a handicap over an extended 5f. TREFOR ran an absolute cracker at Windsor the other day suggesting he's bang in form for Charlie Hills. My selection can run off 1lb lower here and his traveling pace should stand him in good stead on this track. He's only run here once before and didn't do well, but on that occasion he hung badly left and just wasn't himself even though the vet found no issues. Kieran Shoemark takes the ride. Finally on telly there is a handicap over an extended 2m. A huge chance this for ALPHONSE LE GRANDE to outstay his rivals for Tony Martin and William Buick. The Cesarewitch winner has not been disgraced in 2025, running twice with a pipe opener at the Curragh follow by an eighth in the Ascot Stakes at the Royal meeting. This is not a strong renewal in my book and he has a great chance to score if there is any sort of pace at all. Good luck! And he even says victory in the world's longest Flat race - which has been reduced in distance owing to the dry ground - would eclipse his achievements at Cheltenham. Burke, now 39, won the 2011 Plate on Holmwood Legend for late trainer Pat Rodford. The victory was dubbed one of the 'romantic' tales of the week with the 25-1 outsider storming home by three lengths. But his career in the saddle ended in a life-threatening incident when he was 'double-barrelled' by a spooked horse. Burke had splashed some cash at the Cheltenham sales and was trotting the new purchase at home when it got spooked. Intent on catching the tearaway, Burke ran after it but the horse kicked him with both its hind legs. He was in intensive care for a week with a ruptured spleen and was so weak he couldn't walk. Burke recovered in time to train the Anthony Knott-owned Hunt Ball, who went from a lowly 69-rated chaser to Cheltenham Festival winner. The horse won seven of eight races in the 2011-12 season - including the Listed Pulteney Land Investments Novices' Handicap Chase at the Festival - before finishing third in the Grade 1 Bowl at Aintree off 154. But Burke insists winning the Newmarket Town Plate - which has been run since 1666 - would top the lot. Especially as he is taking on good friend and rival trainer Tim Vaughan. Burke said: "All the staff said I couldn't do it, so I had to prove them wrong. "It was probably about three months ago that it came on the agenda but, originally, I was a reserve. "I was then put in as someone else pulled out, so it has been a bit all last minute to get everything sorted to go and do it. "I think it would give me loads more satisfaction winning this than winning at the Cheltenham Festival. "I've not had a massive chance to think about it too much, and what it means, but it is starting to sink in a little bit more now. "I think all those old memories will be flooding back, but it is even better there are not eight flights of hurdles to negotiate!" "I've got one thing I need to get done and that is to beat Tim Vaughan. "We have not had a side bet on this, but from what I've seen he is taking this very seriously. "I was up at Newmarket at the weekend, and I was having a drink with Josephine Gordon and she texted Tim a picture of me drinking a pint for my preparation when he has been all over Instagram going running and stuff. "If Tim Vaughan is last and I'm second last I will be delighted! "I don't know about being in good shape, but I got going when I was first going to go for it then I backed off as I wasn't doing it, but now I am doing I've had to get on with it. "I've not been drinking so much or eating so much. "I've had to lose about half-a-stone which wasn't too bad.
