Broncos respond to Sam Thaiday news after NRL great goes public with awful revelation

Yahoo17-02-2025
The Brisbane Broncos have joined fans in congratulating Sam Thaiday after the retired NRL great was crowned the winner of 'I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here' on Sunday night. And it came after the Queensland champion revealed the heartbreaking reasons for his appearance on the reality TV show.
Thaiday was named the winner ahead of Matty J and Reggie Bird on Sunday night, leaving fans delighted for the NRL great. On Monday, the Brisbane Broncos wrote on social media: "King of the Jungle. A big congrats to Sammy on being crowned the winner of I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! 2025 and helping out a great cause."
That great cause they mentioned is the 'Find Ya Feet' charity, which Thaiday won $100,000 for. Earlier in the season, the 39-year-old explained why the charity means so much to him as he laid bare some of the personal struggles he overcame as a youngster.
'My charity is called Find Ya Feet. It's run by a guy named Tommy Herschel,' Thaiday told the other celebs. 'He goes into schools and helps young boys, and he gives them a safe place to share their feelings and talk about how they're feeling. I sat in on one of his sessions and to hear how brave some of these young boys were in opening up and sharing their stories about what was going on in their lives.'
Thaiday, who played 304 games for the Broncos as well as 29 State of Origin games for Queensland and 32 Test matches for Australia, made the heartbreaking admission on national TV that he contemplated suicide when he was a teenager. 'As a 13-year-old boy, I wanted to take my own life, and I wish I had someone like Tommy around to let me know that it was okay to talk about my feelings," he said.
"As a young kid, I really struggled to find my place. I found myself too white to be black and too black to be white, and didn't know where I fit in. And if I had someone like Tommy Herschel in my life as a young kid, maybe I would have shared a lot of these stories a lot earlier in my life.
'He's a bit of a one-man band at the moment, and I just thought he needed help. So that's why I'm in here. And hopefully even, like, I don't even have to win it, I just want to raise some awareness for him, I want people talking about it.'

It wasn't the first time Thaiday spoke publicly about his mental health demons, after opening up in an interview back in 2020. But it brought it to the attention of a national audience on TV for the first time, and gave 'Find Ya Feet' some much-needed exposure.
'I had bottled up my feelings for so long not knowing how to express them," he told the in 2020. "I told her (the therapist) my story and I left that session somewhat motivated to tell people my story. Hopefully by getting my story out I can encourage people to speak up.
'I still have moments now where I second guess myself. Self doubt is the loudest voice in your head. That kind of was an ongoing thing throughout my whole life. I want to learn and grow and get better to make that the quietest voice in side my head. I see myself right now as being a little bit lost and lonely at times."

Myleene Klass says ex cheated with celebrity at her birthday party

The TV star told Paul C. Brunson's podcast it had been 'difficult' to see her own family fall apart as the unnamed famous person 'built a family brand'. What did you miss? Myleene Klass has opened up on feeling "conflicted" that a celebrity she caught her ex-husband cheating with at her birthday party is known for "building a family brand". The TV presenter and singer spoke to Paul C. Brunson's We Need To Talk podcast about her divorce from Graham Quinn and the devastating cheating that led to their split. Although she didn't name the famous person who she caught Quinn with at her party, Klass revealed that their image was built around strong family values which she said had been "difficult" to accept as her own family fell apart. Klass also spoke about the behind-the-scenes secrets she is not allowed to share from her days in Hear'Say, and claimed she had been targeted by disgraced film producer Harvey Weinstein in a terrifying meeting. What, how and why? Loose Women star and former Hear'Say singer Klass was in a relationship with ex Quinn for 12 years, but they split just six months after marrying. Asked by Brunson how she would describe her relationship with the father of her eldest two children, she said: "I will use his words, how he would describe it, because it's fascinating to me. I was told I emasculated him." Klass, who cemented her fame after her Popstars days by finishing as runner-up on I'm A Me Out Of Here! in 2006, confessed that she had considered cancelling her wedding the night before as she felt the relationship wasn't right. She claimed Quinn had not allowed her to invite her best friend as he wanted to keep the day small, and said she had cried all the way through her wedding day. The TV star shared she had had suspicions that Quinn was cheating for a while, but opened up on the devastating moment she discovered him with a famous person at her own birthday party in her house. She said: "They weren't having sex, but they were unzipping each other." Klass said that she found the resulting split especially difficult because she was left as a single parent, whilst the woman she caught Quinn with was known for her "family brand". "I walked in on him with a famous person on my birthday on a balcony," she said. "I've made peace with that situation now, but for a long time, it was very difficult to see their life. Not that I would wish that on a family...I don't know, I feel conflicted. "My life quite literally just broke apart very, very publicly. And their life, they've managed to continue building a family brand on it. It was very difficult." Klass has not named the famous person and they did not get into a relationship with Quinn afterwards. Klass said of the divorce: "I was just catching up all of the time and every time new information came my way, I just couldn't believe it. One popstar rang me up and she was like, 'I think I've got your money, it's in my safe'." "On the day he decided it was over, he just pushed this little Post-it note across the table with the figure he wanted," she added. Klass said that she had brought up her older two children as a lone parent for 12 years after Quinn left. She now has a third child with partner Simon Motson, and also told Brunson about her recent meeting with the King to talk about her campaigning work around miscarriage which she recently received an MBE for. What Myleene Klass said about Hear'Say secrets Klass first found fame on reality show Popstars, where she and her fellow winners formed the group Hear'Say. They were only together for around 18 months, but Klass described their baptism of fire in the music industry and their shock at stories about their personal lives being leaked to the press. She said that the only time she and her bandmates Kym Marsh, Suzanne Shaw, Danny Foster and Noel Sullivan felt safe was when they were talking to each other in person so that they knew they weren't being listened to. "We could only trust each other," she said, claiming of their treatment by the music industry: "We were not protected, we were almost bait." Having previously spoken about diaries she has from the early days of her pop fame, Klass claimed she had been told they were too libellous to publish because of anecdotes about the behaviour of others in the music industry at the time. "People are very interested in the diaries," she said. "I think there must be some people who are very scared as well. Rightly so." On keeping in touch with her bandmates, she said: "We do go through peaks and troughs and flurries. Some more than others, for sure. It's like an office job from 25 years ago, which is sad really, because we went through so much. When big things happen, we all check in on each other." Klass also claimed that she had been propositioned by disgraced film producer Harvey Weinstein with a "sex contract" during her days working at CNN. She said she had met Weinstein at a party and attended a meeting with him that she believed was about a documentary she wanted to make, but alleged that he told her he would make her a film star if she had sex with him. Speaking about how terrifying the situation had been, Klass said she had managed to get away from the meeting. She reflected on the many women who had since come forward with similar claims about Weinstein, saying: "I believe every woman who came forward because I sat there. I was utterly devastated because I didn't know if I was going to get out." We Need To Talk with Paul C. Brunson is streaming now.

Tributes flow around NRL world after premiership-winner announces retirement

NRL fans and pundits are paying tribute to Chad Townsend after the veteran halfback confirmed he'll retire at season's end. The 34-year-old took to social media on Tuesday to announce the news, which ws expected but never officially confirmed until now. 'It's hard to put into words what this game means to me,' Townsend wrote over a photo with his family. 'I'd like to thank the Yarrawarrah Tigers for giving me an opportunity to fall in love with this game. The memories and friendships I created at my junior club still live with me today and I am very grateful for that. 'To the teams I played for, the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks, New Zealand Warriors, North Queensland Cowboys and Sydney Roosters, I am forever grateful for the opportunity you gave me to fulfil my dreams of playing in the NRL. I'd like to thank all the fans who have showed love and support to me throughout my journey. I have always enjoyed connecting with people through our shared love of rugby league." He added: 'To all my teammates over the years, thank you for being there for me throughout the highs and lows that is the rollercoaster of the NRL. We shared some incredible memories together and this will be the thing I miss the most. To my coaches, football staff and club staff, thank you for all your support throughout my career. I have been lucky to work with some incredible people and build some great relationships. 'To my management, Gavin and Chris at Pacific Sports Management, we have shared a long journey together. Thank you for your guidance and support throughout my entire NRL career. 'To my beautiful wife Marissa and our kids Myra, Cairo, Miami and Malibu, thank you for your unwavering support throughout my career. You have been there through it all, on and off the field. Every win, every loss, we did it together. 'When I think about the young kid from Yarrawarrah who was footy obsessed, who just wanted to play footy with his mates, who stood on the family hill waving his flag, who had dreams of making it to the NRL and who had to earn everything he got, my heart and soul are filled with love and gratitude.' He remains a cult hero amongst Sharks fans after playing halfback in that grand final victory over the vaunted Melbourne Storm. He also had two stints at the New Zealand Warriors, and played 70 gamed for North Queensland from 2022 to 2024. He signed a one-year deal with the Sydney Roosters for 2025, and it was widely expected to be his final season in the NRL. Townsend started the year as the Roosters' starting halfback, but was dropped to reserve grade in Round 6 after the emergence of Hugo Savala. The Roosters' singing of Townsend was largely around helping develop young halves Savala, Sandon Smith and Toby Rodwell. The 35-year-old was recalled to NRL level in Round 20 against Cronulla, but coach Trent Robinson later admitted it was a mistake after the Roosters' 31-18 loss. Altogether he's played 268 first-grade games, and represented the Prime Minister's XIII in 2018. He also played two games for the City Origin team before the concept was scrapped. Tributes have been flowing for Townsend on social media, with many praising his career of perseverance and determination. Had experiences a lot of FG players won't have and you squeezed playing wise the most out of your game but also understood the game, off field and building a brand. You have done that and will continue to thrive in future years. Best wishes — ⚫️⚪️🔵Michael ⚫️⚪️🔵 (@bigmig81) July 29, 2025 Feel like this is the perfect time to share my Chad Townsend era as a teen. Harry Redknapp's wife Sandra 'in hospital' as ITV racing pundit shares health update live on air

Harry Redknapp's wife Sandra has been hospitalised, according to a live update shared by racing presenter Matt Chapman. Chapman disclosed the information during a segment about King of Bears, the racehorse owned by the former football manager, amid ITV4's coverage from Great Yarmouth Racecourse. 'So, King of Bears, just to say Harry Redknapp will be watching this horse from his hospital bed, but not his bed, his missus Sandra is just being treated in hospital at the moment.' he told viewers. Chapman addressed the couple directly: 'Sandra, if you're listening in - I think she wanted to watch Emmerdale, but Harry's making her watch this race - I really hope King of Bears runs well. 'He's a character. He could win it, he could finish last, but he gives Jack Doughty a big chance for George Scott.' Details surrounding Sandra's condition and the reason for her hospitalisation have not yet been disclosed. However in the end, the King of Bears didn't win the race. Instead the 7/1 shot placed sixth. Sandra and Harry Redknapp have been married for 57 years, having first met as teenagers. The couple were just 17 when they started dating, and earlier this month, Harry marked their anniversary with a heartfelt tribute. He wrote: 'Where does the time go? I would be lost without you Sandra.' Now both 78, the pair told their love story in their joint memoir When Harry Met Sandra: Our Story, published in 2022. Their romance began with a date at the Two Puddings pub in East London back in 1963, eventually leading to marriage, two sons, Mark and Jamie, and a growing brood of grandchildren. Sandra stepped into the spotlight during Harry's winning stint on I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here, where his obvious devotion to her won over the nation. Then in 2022, Harry shared his fears after Sandra experienced serious breathing difficulties following a battle with Covid. Speaking to The Mirror, he said: 'The symptoms weren't good, if I'm truthful. You start to think about all kinds of sinister things. 'It's been a real worry. Sandra has suffered. Her voice had packed up and she was struggling for breath. Even swallowing food became difficult. She could choke on food easily if we weren't careful.' Sandra said of her health battle at the time: 'You don't realise what your vocal cords do until they're not working, because it affects breathing as well as talking. 'The shortness of breath was very difficult. My voice would vibrate and was very weak.' The Standard has contacted Harry Redknapp's rep for comment.
