Reports: Russian Transport Minister Dies by Suicide After Dismissal from Office

Rana Atef
On Monday, media reports cited that the Russian transport minister Roman Starovoit was found dead from a gunshot wound in an apparent suicide.
The suicide of the Russian official came after the Kremlin announced dismissing him from his position by President Vladimir Putin.
The Kremlin did not provide the reasons for dismissing Starovoit, who served as transport minister since May 2024.
Russia's Investigative Committee said the body of Starovoit was found with a gunshot wound in his car parked in Odintsovo.
The gun was found next to his body.
An investigation was launched into the death, and investigators saw suicide as the most likely cause, according to committee's spokesperson Svetlana Petrenko.

US to Impose 30% Tariffs on Mexico, EU from 1 August

Israa Farhan The United States is set to introduce sweeping new tariffs on imports from Mexico and the European Union starting 1 August 2025, following an announcement from former President Donald Trump. In official correspondence issued on Saturday, Trump notified both Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen that a 30% tariff would be applied to all exports from their respective regions to the US. In the letter to President Sheinbaum, Trump confirmed that the new 30% tariff would apply independently of existing sector-specific duties. He also warned that any attempts to bypass the new tariffs through transshipment would result in even higher charges. Additionally, Trump cautioned that if Mexico increases its tariffs, the US would respond by adding the same percentage increase on top of the 30% base rate. A nearly identical letter was sent to Ursula von der Leyen, in which Trump stated that the 30% rate was still insufficient to fully address what he described as an ongoing trade imbalance between the US and the European Union. The EU responded swiftly. European Commission President von der Leyen reiterated the bloc's willingness to work toward a resolution before the 1 August deadline. However, she also made clear that the EU would act decisively to defend its economic interests if necessary. Von der Leyen warned that such tariffs could severely damage critical transatlantic supply chains and negatively impact industries, consumers, and patients on both sides of the Atlantic. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Arts & Culture Hawass Foundation Launches 1st Course to Teach Ancient Egyptian Language Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream

Gaza truce talks stall amid famine, mounting global pressure on Israel

The ongoing Israeli offensive against the besieged Gaza Strip has killed 57,882 Palestinians and injured 138,095 since 7 October 2023, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health, which reported that the majority of victims are women and children. The bombardment has caused widespread destruction and mass displacement. In the past 24 hours alone, Israeli attacks have killed 59 people and injured 208, the ministry said. The Government Media Office in Gaza warned that famine now threatens hundreds of thousands of people after more than 100 days of a complete border closure, reporting that 67 children have died from malnutrition and a lack of essential medicines. The UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights stated that 798 Palestinians have been killed while trying to access humanitarian aid since late May. On Saturday, dozens more were reportedly killed by Israeli fire near an aid distribution centre in northern Rafah, according to medics on the ground. In Doha, two Palestinian sources told the media that ceasefire negotiations have reached a 'complicated deadlock' after Israel proposed a withdrawal map that would leave Israeli forces occupying 40% of the Gaza Strip. Hamas rejected the offer, insisting on a complete withdrawal and unrestricted humanitarian access. Hamas warned that recent comments by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to families of Israeli captives—claiming that a comprehensive deal is currently impossible—reflect a 'malicious intent' to block any agreement. The movement reiterated its willingness to engage in a comprehensive prisoner swap in exchange for a full ceasefire, total withdrawal, and unimpeded humanitarian relief. On the ground, the armed wing of Islamic Jihad, Al-Quds Brigades, said it destroyed an Israeli military vehicle with a barrel bomb in Khan Younis and shelled Israeli positions in eastern Gaza using 60mm mortars. Meanwhile, Hamas' military wing, Al-Qassam Brigades, claimed to have destroyed two Israeli D9 bulldozers, a Merkava tank, and a military excavator with explosive devices in the eastern Al-Zaytoun area, noting that Israeli helicopters were seen evacuating casualties. Amid the ongoing violence, international criticism of Israeli actions is mounting. Sixty Labour Party MPs in the UK sent a letter to Foreign Secretary David Lammy, urging immediate recognition of a Palestinian state. They accused Israel of pursuing 'ethnic cleansing' in Gaza and warned of plans to forcibly displace residents of Rafah. As diplomatic pressure builds and calls to end the war grow louder, Gaza residents say they face 'death traps' whenever they attempt to obtain food or water. Palestinian factions continue to resist ground incursions, demanding international guarantees for reconstruction and a return to a dignified life after months of devastating war.

Erdogan says 'Turkey has won' after Kurdish PKK fighters disarm - Region

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Saturday his country had achieved victory after Kurdish rebels destroyed their weapons, ending their decades-long armed struggle against Ankara. Friday's symbolic weapons destruction ceremony in Iraqi Kurdistan marked a major step in the transition of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) from armed insurgency to democratic politics -- part of a broader effort to end one of the region's longest-running conflicts. "Turkey has won. Eighty-six million citizens have won," Erdogan said. "We know what we are doing. Nobody needs to worry or ask questions. We are doing all this for Turkey, for our future". The PKK was formed in 1978 by Ankara University students, with the ultimate goal of achieving the Kurds' liberation through armed struggle. It took up arms in 1984 and the ensuing conflict has cost more than 40,000 lives. Follow us on: Facebook Instagram Whatsapp Short link:
