Colorado women's basketball dominates SE Louisiana in WBIT first round
Colorado women's basketball cruised past Southeastern Louisiana in their WBIT first-round matchup Thursday evening. The Buffaloes jumped out to a 12-2 lead and never looked back, taking down the Lady Lions 73-41.
The Buffaloes' defense was imposing, holding SE Louisianan to just 26% from the field and 14% from the 3-point line.
Offensively, Colorado hit their shots at a respectable clip, but the 19 turnovers will be something that head coach JR Payne will want to have cleaned up by the time Sunday's second-round game tips off.
The Buffs used dominant bookend quarters to put away the Lions, closing the game by only allowing five points while holding them to 15.4% shooting.
Lior Garzon led Colorado with 18 points on 6-11 shooting and 2-5 from behind the arc. Jade Masogayo added 15 points of her own, going an efficient 5-6 from the field and knocking down five of her eight free throws. Do it all point guard Kindyll Wetta had a near triple-double with 10 points, seven rebounds and six assists.
The Buffaloes' game wasn't perfect, but it was good enough, especially defensively, to earn them a comfortable win at home.
Colorado will play Gonzaga in the WBIT second round on Sunday, March 23, at 1:00 p.m. MT.

Carlton had a productive junior season for Temple High School. He amassed 57 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, five sacks, and a forced fumble. Rivals has Carlton ranked extremely high in their rankings. In addition to being the No. 46 overall prospect he's also the No. 4 edge rusher and the No. 4 recruit in the state of Texas. Texas Tech hosted Carlton at the end of April and LSU in May. He still has official visits to Texas A&M and Baylor before he commits, so last weekend was immensely important for Texas and their chances to land Carlton. After spending time with players on the Longhorns roster as well as edge coach LaAllan Clark, Carlton can envision himself playing in Austin. "I can see myself there," Carlton said. If Texas can snag Carlton, they'll inch closer toward a top 10 class for the 2026 cycle. Elite 2026 4-star Edge sends message after his Texas A&M official visit One of Texas A&M's first 2026 commitments in the 2026 class has now made it known to the rest of the country that he is 100% locked in with the Aggies, as four-star defensive end Jordan Carter will reportedly shut down his recruitment during his recent interview with TexAgs recruiting analyst Jason Howell, who has been steadily tracking Carter's recent uptick in outside attention. Former Prairie View A&M football player Jackson Bailey has died, the program announced on Tuesday. The cause of death for the 22-year-old has not been revealed. Bailey joined the football program for the 2023 season but did not appear in any games for the university located in Texas. 4 Jackson Bailey of Prairie View A&M died on Tuesday due to an unknown cause. 'The Prairie View A&M University Department of Athletics extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends, teammates and fraternity brothers of Jackson 'Jacks' Bailey, a cherished member of the Panther football program and the PVAMU community,' the university's statement read. 'Jackson joined the football team for the 2023–24 season. Although he did not appear in any official games, his presence and energy were felt deeply within the locker room and across campus.
