Amazon's New Kindle Colorsoft Has Lower Price To Fix First Model's Problem

Forbes2 days ago
When Amazon released the Kindle Colorsoft last year, it was the first time the company had made an ebook reader with a color screen. It won many good reviews, but its Achilles' heel was its high price ($279.99). A new model addresses that.
The new Kindle Colorsoft
The first was called the Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition, a name Amazon reserves for its premium devices and which indicates extra storage or exclusive features like wireless charging.
The color-screen Signature Edition has 32GB storage, wireless charging and a front light which automatically adjusts to suit the environment in which you're reading.
Now, there's a new version of the Colorsoft that is cheaper. It still has the same seven-inch color screen, the same processor as the older model. It also still has the fastest page turns of any Kindle (the newest Paperwhite matches it for speed). Oh, and it's still waterproof so you can read in the bath.
The Kindle Colorsoft has half the storage of the Signature Edition, 16GB. Is that a problem? With regular black-and-white text-based books, 16GB is more than enough storage for most people. You could manage with half that and still have room for thousands of titles.
Color books, such as graphic novels, cookery books and travel guides really benefit from the color screen, but they take up a lot more storage. Even so, 16GB is decent, and remember you can delete and re-download content if storage is momentarily stretched.
The price savings is $30, meaning it clocks in at $249.99 — you decide if that's worth having or you'd rather pay $30 for extra storage.
Kindle Colorsoft Kids
There's also now another color-screened Kindle in the range, Colorsoft Kids. The tablet is identical to the just-released Kindle Colorsoft but it comes with a year's subscription to Amazon Kids+, with plenty of age-appropriate content thrown in. This costs $6 a month after the first year, and it accounts for the higher price of $269.99. The Kids version also comes with a colorful wraparound cover: choose from Starlight Reading or Fantasy River, as Amazon calls them.

Josh Brown Highlights His New Best Industrial Stock Pick in 2025

Fastenal Co (NASDAQ:FAST) is one of the . Josh Brown, CEO of Ritholtz Wealth Management, recently highlighted Fastenal Co (NASDAQ:FAST) as one of his best stock picks in the market. Here is how Brown explained his thesis about the stock: 'When you look at a long-term chart of this, it's just up and to the right. The buyers come in pretty much on every dip, and the trend line has been pristine dating back to early 2023. Basically, what they've done is they've Amazon-ed the construction business. They have something called Fastenal Managed Inventory. It's a digital tech platform so that you don't even have to reorder the things that you're running out of as an industrial company building things. Fastenal already knows, and they will deliver what you need right to the site. And this has been incredible for the business.44% of total sales last quarter, which they announced on Monday, came in as a result of this FMI technology—this platform that I'm talking about. The important thing to understand here is it's an industrial company. It's not a tech company, doesn't grow revenue at 40% a year or anything like that, but it's incredibly well-managed.' Amazon hosts meet and greet in Pontiac, Michigan, to introduce new drone delivery service

With drone delivery set to take off in late 2025, Amazon is betting big on Pontiac, Michigan. The tech giant's drone program, Amazon Prime Air, is setting the stage for a high-tech transformation in how packages arrive at your front door, and Pontiac is one of the first communities on the flight path. On Tuesday, the program hosted a community meet-and-greet at Lafayette Grande in Pontiac, introducing Metro Detroit residents to its cutting-edge drone delivery service. The event offered locals a hands-on look at the technology that's already being piloted in select U.S. cities. Attendees were treated to live drone demonstrations and the chance to speak directly with the engineers and operations staff behind the futuristic delivery method. Amazon plans to launch its drone service in the area by the fourth quarter of 2025, just in time for the holiday shopping season. "This is the future of where delivery is heading, and we want to make sure that Pontiac is at the forefront," said Pontiac City Council President Mike McGuinness. The drone delivery service will be available to customers located within a 7.5-mile radius of the drone center in Pontiac. To use the service, customers simply shop on Amazon as usual. If eligible, they'll see a "drone delivery" or "60-minute delivery" option at checkout. Officials say the packages must be 5 pounds or less. One of the biggest questions surrounding drone delivery is its impact on employment. However, Amazon leaders and city officials reassured the public that the technology is meant to supplement, not replace, the human workforce. "Right here in Pontiac, Michigan, we've had a site in the community for quite a while that are directly supporting your business and making sure that each step, each opportunity, local community members have the opportunity to apply here," said Ian Conyers, head of Community Affairs at Amazon. Pontiac city officials say the company's presence and its investment in new technology have already had a positive economic impact. "A lot of services and improvements that we've been able to make in our community or directly attributed to the stability and growth of Amazon, meaning their large, substantial facilities here, but also the thousands of people that work there and their contribution to our tax base," McGuinness said.
