Heavy metal singer Ozzy caused the most controversy in his colourful career by biting off a bat's head. On Wednesday, thousands of fans in Birmingham paid their respects to Ozzy as his cortege passed through the streets of his home city. The next day, the 76-year-old was laid to rest beside a serene lake in a private ceremony at his Buckinghamshire country estate. Alongside the lake was a giant floral tribute saying: 'Ozzy F***ing Osbourne'. It comes after wife Sharon broke down in tears at Ozzy's funeral in heartbreaking scenes. A family friend said the bat boxes in trees by the lake, installed a few years ago in an estate upgrade, had provided moments of humour as they grieved. The insider said: 'This was like a classic Ozzy move. The man loved humour and this sure would have tickled him pink knowing how close friends reacted to this bat situation. 'After all those decades caught up in this drama around bats and animal rights groups, here at his final resting place there are bespoke bat boxes to help encourage the animals thrive in the UK countryside. It has prompted quite a few laughs and funny reactions. It is just like Ozzy had the last laugh.' Ozzy bit the bat during his Diary of a Madman tour in Des Moines' Veterans Memorial Auditorium in January 1982 thinking it was a toy. The infamous incident outraged animal charities, but cemented his place into rock and roll history as the craziest artist of all time. In 2010 memoir I Am Ozzy, the star insisted that the bat was already dead, but regretted his action after needing daily rabies shots for months. Buckinghamshire has focused on improving the 'conservation of bats and their habitats' and encourages many planning applicants to include bird or bat boxes in schemes. The region is home to many brown-long eared and pipistrelle bats. Ozzy and wife Sharon, 72, spent more than £1million upgrading Welders House estate for their return to the UK in 2023, including a new wing to the mansion, a gym, recording facilities and lift giving the rocker, who had Parkinson's disease, access to the upstairs bedroom. The lake was doubled in size with fish added. Sharon and Ozzy's children – Jack, 39, Kelly, 40, Aimee, 41, and Louis, 50 – were joined by music stars for Thursday's ceremony at the250-acre estate near Gerrards Cross. Among them were his bandmates, including Zakk Wylde, Metallica frontman James Hetfield, rock star Marilyn Manson, Sir Elton John and singer Yungblud.

Ozzy Osbourne's daughter Kelly has paid brilliantly unique tribute to her father after he was laid to rest on Thursday. The legendary heavy metal rocker, who died aged 76 on July 22, was buried by the lake in the grounds of his Buckinghamshire mansion following a private church service. This followed a huge public outpouring of love and mourning from the crowd of thousands that gathered in Ozzy's home city of Birmingham for an emotional funeral procession through its streets the previous day, just weeks after his final ever show there, at Villa Park. Marking one of her first social posts since her beloved dad's funeral and death – and since his Back to the Beginning last gig, where Kelly's fiancé Sid Wilson proposed – Kelly returned to Instagram late on Friday night. She shared a single image to her Stories with no additional comment, but the picture spoke for itself. Reality show star Kelly, 40, had photographed a picture of a purple funeral wreath for Ozzy, by the lake, which simply – and appropriately – read: 'Ozzy F***ing Osbourne'. It stood proud among the rolling grassy grounds by the peaceful-looking lake, reflected in its waters. According to The Sun, 110 of the Black Sabbath star's closest friends and family travelled to join his wife Sharon, 72, and children Kelly, Jack, 39, Aimee, 41, and Louis, 50 – Ozzy's son from his first marriage to Thelma Riley – at the private service. These included Ozzy's bandmates, Metallica's James Hetfield, Sir Elton John and singer Yungblud. Other stars pictured making their way into the venue included Marilyn Manson, Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor and Zakk Wylde, who was photographed clutching two guitars. Devastated fans have also left flowers, signs, cards and gifts outside the property in tribute. An insider previously told the outlet of the plans: 'Sharon and the family want to celebrate Ozzy's life with his fans, with plans for the cortege to travel through Birmingham.' The procession made its way down Birmingham's Broad Street in the city centre and across Black Sabbath Bridge on the canal, named after the rockers and a bench featuring the band's four founding members – Ozzy, Terry 'Geezer' Butler, Tony Iommi and Bill Ward. It was here the family was shown adding their own flowers to those left by fans, enormously touched by the outpouring and struggling with their grief, with X Factor judge Sharon in tears. The source continued: 'Tomorrow they will have a closed service at a church in Gerrards Cross, Bucks. 'Singer Yungblud, who became close with Ozzy in recent years, is going to give a reading. 'His Sabbath bandmates, Tony Iommi, Bill Ward and Geezer Butler, will be there, along with James Hetfield from Metallica.' More Trending Yungblud – real name Dominic Richard Harrison – shared his own tribute on Instagram to Ozzy after the funeral, with a picture holding the iconic crucifix Ozzy often wore that he passed on to him before his death. 'Goodnight Oz 🦇your light will forever shine. I love you,' he wrote in the caption. Yungblud previously shared a poignant tribute to his late friend after the news of his death was announced, calling the cross the 'most precious thing he owns.' Elton John and Spin̈al Tap release new version of Stonehenge – and correct stage prop disaster
Elton John and Spin̈al Tap have joined forces on a new version of the band's song Stonehenge – and have finally corrected one of the great scenery-based mishaps in classic rock. The song, performed in the 1984 rock-mockumentary This Is Spin̈al Tap, is at the heart of one of the film's most cherished scenes: when the band, having made a mistake when commissioning an 18ft Stonehenge stage prop, have to make do with an 18in version being lowered from the rafters. After some hired dwarves caper around it, the band's David St Hubbins complains that they looked likely to crush it underfoot. No such problems with the new version made for the long-awaited sequel Spın̈al Tap II: The End Continues, which will be released 12 September in the US and UK (and 25 September in Australia). In the scene, released today along with a recording of the song on streaming services, the band put in a considerably more triumphant performance, complete with full-sized standing stones and the return of the dwarves. Appearing in a cloak from beneath the stage is Elton John, who takes over the lead vocal, singing lyrics such as 'Stonehenge, where a man's a man / and the children dance to the pipes of Pan' with the requisite po-faced grandeur. John is one of a number of starry cameos in the film, along with Paul McCartney, Questlove, Metallica's Lars Ulrich and more. Michael McKean reprises his role as St Hubbins alongside Christopher Guest as Nigel Tufnel and Harry Shearer as Derek Smalls, heading up a supporting cast filled with British comedy stars such as Nina Conti, Chris Addison and Kerry Godliman. The film will have the documentary film-maker Marty DiBergi (played by Rob Reiner) following the group as they prepare for a final reunion show. The first trailer was released earlier this week. An accompanying soundtrack album has also been announced. Elton John will appear again on Flower People, while McCartney joins them for Cups and Cakes, and country music couple Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood perform Big Bottom.
