There will be no hint of complacency from Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN8 after their FIFA Club World Cup exploits, believes former Brazilian player Thabo Nthethe.
Coming into the Club World Cup, the Betway Premiership champions were not expected to trouble some of the heavy hitters in the group.
Instead, Sundowns beat Ulsan HD in their first outing, competed strongly with Dortmund before going down 4-3, and finally drew with Fluminense, which saw them miss out on the knockout stages.
On Sunday, Sundowns welcome Richards Bay to Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium at 6pm, as their 2025/2026 campaign on local shores begins.

Nasreddine Nabi on his way back to Kaizer Chiefs?

Kaizer Chiefs have defied the odds at the start of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season, winning both of their opening fixtures despite the absence of head coach Nasreddine Nabi, who is currently in Tunisia due to a family emergency. Nabi's wife was reportedly injured in an accident at home, prompting his immediate return to Tunisia. In his absence, assistant coach Khalil Ben Youssef has taken charge of day-to-day operations. Despite the disruption, Kaizer Chiefs have looked sharp and organised – beating Stellenbosch FC in the opener and then Polokwane City, scoring three unanswered goals across both matches. Ben Youssef emphasised that Nabi remains actively involved, even from abroad. 'We are in contact every day. We prepare every session and every game together. Coach Nabi may not be physically here, but his presence is still felt in everything we do.' The team's technical staff, long accustomed to working closely together, has helped maintain tactical consistency. According to reports, Nabi is soon expected to begin the long journey back to South Africa and is expected to arrive before the end of the week. Kaizer Chiefs now sit top of the standings on goal difference, level on six points with Durban City, Marumo Gallants, and Sekhukhune United. The club will look to continue their early dominance when they host Richards Bay at FNB Stadium on Tuesday in their third league match of the season. Kick-off is at 19:30. Tickets for the Glamour Boys' second home match of the season are available online at and or Shoprite, USave and Checkers supermarkets at R60. Kaizer Chiefs: Full list of new signings for 2025/26 season

Kaizer Chiefs have made a total of eight signings for the 2025/26 season. Having signed 10 the previous campaign, the Soweto giants have now added eight more players as they look to challenge for top honours. So far, the signings have paid off as they have won their opening two Betway Premiership. The team spent their pre-season in the Netherlands, where they played several top Dutch teams. Having won just one match in five, expectations were low coming into the new season. So make matters worse, Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi left camp before the start of their season to attend to his wife back home. Under Khalil Ben Youssef, Amakhosi have looked good, especially in defence and are yet to concede a goal this campaign. So far, the Soweto giants have started the season strong, but will only be tested later this month when they play defending Betway Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns. The last time the two teams met was back in April, with Chiefs claiming a 2-1 win in the Nedbank Cup semi-finals. So far, the Glamour Boys have welcomed Ethan Chislett, Thabiso Monyane, Paseka Mako, Nkanyisa Shinga, Flavio Silva, Siphesihle Ndlovu, Asanele Velebayi and Etiosa Ighodaro.
