Roy Keane ‘affected' by clashes with fans but signs new Sky Sports deal

Telegraph3 hours ago
Roy Keane signed a new deal at Sky Sports despite being 'affected' by clashes with supporters at matches.
Sky reviewed security arrangements for their punditry team after a man was found guilty of headbutting Keane at the Emirates in 2023. The Sky pundit was also confronted at Ipswich Town last season.
On Tuesday, Sky said the former Manchester United captain had been impacted by incidents of abuse and even assault while working at matches in recent seasons.
'Roy's a great guy – a brilliant team mate,' said Gary Hughes, Sky's director of football. 'He's had a few incidents in the last couple of seasons ... and it does affect him.
'Ultimately, when it comes to him, he wants to be involved in the biggest games. He loves working with us. He wants to be at Old Trafford for Manchester United against Arsenal. There'll be more Roy next season.'
'It's our responsibility to make sure that we don't expose any of our team to those sorts of incidents,' said Jonathan Licht, Sky Sports managing director. 'There were conversations that we had immediately – I think he was back with us following the weekend. He loves being part of the big games and we hope that will continue.'
Meanwhile, Mark Chapman will make it two thirds of the BBC's Match of the Day team doubling up by also presenting live Premier League coverage on Sky Sports.
Like Kelly Cates, Chapman will combine his role as part of the new Match of the Day team that has replaced Gary Lineker with working as one of the main Sky presenters for a season in which they will screen at least 215 of the 380 Premier League matches. That compares to 128 in the previous rights' cycle.
Dave Jones will be the other lead presenter for Sky Sports' Premier League coverage while Gabby Logan will also join Cates and Chapman on the BBC's long-running Saturday night highlights show.
Licht said the decision to bring in Chapman for its expanded Premier League coverage was simply rooted in a desire to get the best presenters. Chapman has a near 30-year association with the BBC, most prominently as the presenter of Match of the Day 2, and is now expected to host the first main Match of the Day show of the post-Gary Lineker era on Sunday.
Of Cates and Chapman, Licht said: 'Exceptional presenters – I think it's better for everyone. We will work with them and work through them with the BBC. We're optimistic it will work very smoothly. We get the best presenters and so do they. It's all good.'
Hughes added that 'we're all adults' in expressing his expectation that the rotas can be aligned but acknowledged that it was 'new territory' for the broadcasters.
'Clearly we have more games this season, we need more presenters,' he said. 'He will work weekends … and we'll work with him and Kelly. We're delighted that Kelly is working on Match of the Day. We've got control of the calendar in terms of the picking of the matches. We're all adults and we'll see how it goes. We're looking forward to having everybody on board.'
Chapman will also continue to present Sky Sports' Carabao Cup coverage.
Sky, meanwhile, hope their disagreement with Nottingham Forest is solved and they will be able to resume usual coverage after Gary Neville was banned from the City Ground for the final match last season following his criticism of owner Evangelos Marinakis.

Lauren Goodger displays her sunburnt boobs in plunging bikini top as she flogs games to fans in her garden after sharing surgery regrets

Lauren Goodger displayed her sunburnt boobs in a plunging bikini top as she flogged a series of games to her fans in her garden. The reality star, 38, has been making the most of the UK heatwave by stripping off and relaxing in the sun - after sharing that she has 'ruined her looks with surgery'. Taking to her Instagram on Tuesday, she put up a Story where she was visibly sunburnt on her chest. She was wearing a cream and khaki bikini and full glam whilst enjoying the weather. Lauren, who found fame on The Only Way Is Essex in 2010, told her fans about a series of cash-grabbing games which can earn them up to £80. She admitted she spends a lot of time 'pointlessly scrolling', but fortunately there's actually a benefit that comes with it. Speaking to her followers, Lauren said: 'Hi guys, if you're like me and just waste loads of time scrolling on pointless apps, well then this is for you. 'You can earn up to £80 just by playing games. There's over three million subscribers and it's all over Trustpilot, it's completely trusted.' Lauren then encouraged her fans to sign up by sharing the link in her post. The telly personality seems to be embracing self-love just weeks after admitting that she thinks she has 'ruined her looks' with plastic surgery. Earlier this year, she revealed her plans to have her breast and bum implants removed this year. And speaking to The Sun, Lauren admitted the surgery she has undergone has left her thinking her body looks 'abnormal'. Lauren said she thinks her 'massive boobs and bum' have made her look bigger than she actually is and shared her plans to look like her old self again. The reality star expressed regret about getting the work done and insisted she plans to have all of it removed or reversed. Lauren said: 'I've ruined my looks with surgery - I hate my fake boobs and bum now. 'I feel like my body looks abnormal - I don't need these massive boobs and massive bum. She added: 'When I look at myself naked in the mirror, all I see is lumps and bumps everywhere.' In May, Lauren revealed she is having her 'heavy' breast implants removed and can't wait to go back to a 'natural look'. She admitted her breast were 'perfect' before although now they simply 'make her look big' while opening up about her breast-reduction journey on Instagram. After years of desperately wanting to get her cosmetic surgery reversed, Lauren revealed she had finally plucked up the courage to put plans in place for later this year. Sharing her plans in an exclusive interview with Daily Mail, she said: 'I was terrified [of getting it done] which is what I'm working on, I'm working on that. 'I've delayed it for a year now. I was meant to get the implants out and I want them out because that will transform me. 'It's not even about my weight, it's more my boobs and bum. If I could get rid of them I'd feel and look so much better.'

Olympic medallists facing ban after being charged with CHEATING in bizarre controversy

Two Olympic ski jumping medallists are facing a potential ban after being charged with cheating in a controversial case that could affect their participation at next year's Milan Cortina Games. Olympic champion Marius Lindvik and Johann Andre Forfang, bronze medallist at the 2018 Games in Pyeongchang, had their ski suits tampered with and were caught during the World Championships in Norway in March. An investigation by the International Ski Federation, the sport's worldwide governing body, alleges the Norwegian athletes' teams had broken the rules by reinforcing the thread in their jumpsuits in an attempt to create more lift in the air. Lindvik and Forfang had been disqualified from the men's large hill competition following an equipment inspection at the World Ski Championships in Trondheim. Jan-Erik Aalbu, the Norwegian ski federation's general manager, admitted they had 'tried to cheat the system' in a scandal which sent shockwaves through the country, which prides itself on its success in winter sports. Head coach Magnus Brevik, assistant coach Thomas Lobben and service staff member Adrian Livelten have also been charged. The two athletes' ski suits had allegedly been tampered with in a scandal that has sent shockwaves through sport in Norway Lindvik and Forfang were both provisionally suspended pending the investigation, which has now concluded. Their exact punishments are not yet known but the charges come with less than six months until the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo. Aalbu now claims the two athletes were unaware of the tampering. 'We have listened to our athletes and believe them when they say they did not know about the manipulation of the ski suits,' Aalbu said.

BBC tennis pundit was stalked by obsessed man who had previously targeted her sister

A BBC tennis pundit has revealed the terrifying ordeal she endured at the hands of a crazed stalker who targeted her for almost a year after first pursuing her sister. The former British tennis pro, Naomi Broady, whose brother is tennis star Liam Broady, was subjected to a relentless barrage of Facebook messages between January and December 2023, in what prosecutors described as a deeply disturbing harassment campaign. David Richardson, 39, from Stockport, appeared before Manchester magistrates' court last month where he admitted stalking Naomi's sister, Emma, 37, for three years and harassing Naomi over a 12-month period. Court documents reveal how Richardson sent 'multiple unwanted images and messages' via Facebook, as well as gifts, cards, and paintings. The campaign, it said, caused Naomi 'serious harm and distress'. Naomi, 35, who was part of the BBC's Wimbledon coverage last month and works as a commentator for BBC Radio 5 Live, is the latest in a growing list of female sports stars targeted by obsessive fans. When confronted at his home by The Mirror, Richardson admitted the offences. He claimed he had first tried to strike up a relationship with Naomi's sister Emma before asking her out. Naomi, 35, who was part of the BBC's Wimbledon coverage last month and works as a commentator for BBC Radio 5 Live Richardson had gone to school with Emma, but after she rebuffed him, he began targeting Naomi. He told reporters: 'I wanted to try to win her over. I wanted to ask her out... I was a bit out of practice with the girls... I've not been in a relationship'. The stalker confessed he had bought her a Selfridges voucher and some flowers for her birthday, but didn't ask her out. Then when Valentines Day and Christmas Day came around he sent her the same gifts. He claimed she thanked him and said it 'really cheered her up'. Richardson has now been banned from contacting either woman or approaching their homes ahead of sentencing at Manchester Crown Court on August 18. A source close to the sisters said: 'It was terrifying. They were pleased the police took it seriously. Action has now been taken'. Court documents on Richardson state he: 'Between 13/9/2020 and 4/12/2023 at Stockport pursued a course of conduct, by sending multiple unwanted images and messages via Facebook and sending unwanted gifts, cards and paintings, which amounted to stalking causing Emma Broady serious alarm or distress, which had a substantial adverse effect on her usual day-to-day activities when you knew or ought to have known that your course of conduct would cause alarm or distress.' They add: 'Between 18/1/2023 and 4/12/2023 at Stockport, pursued a course of conduct which amounted to the harassment of Naomi Broady, and which you knew or ought to have known amounted to the harassment of her in that you sent various unwanted messages on Facebook.' The ordeal mirrors the experiences of other high-profile tennis stars, including British Katie Boulter and US Open champion Emma Raducanu, who have both spoken of being stalked and threatened in recent years. Boulter revealed she had been followed in a car and sent menacing social media messages, while Raducanu was left in tears after a man trailed her to four tournaments, prompting a restraining order. Naomi, a former Wimbledon quarter-finalist in mixed doubles and a mother to twin boys born last December, began working as a BBC commentator in 2021. She had a celebrated career on court, reaching the second round at both Wimbledon and the US Open, and winning her first senior title in France in 2009.
