NBA Trade Rumors: NBA Draft trade rumors, Lauri Markkanen, Walker Kessler, and more!

Yahoo4 hours ago

There are a lot of rumors out there so we've got a lot to get to. I'll try to get everything here. First, the Utah Jazz announced a new coaching hire last week, Coach Wojciechowski, and I needed to get that included here.
A huge congrats to Coach Wojo!
NBA Draft Trade Rumors
Late draft trades coming?
In the latest Stein Line, Jake Fischer had some interesting trade details
There's been lots of chatter leaguewide, actually, about the majority of picks from Nos. 20-30 being available for trade in this draft.
Which is pretty typically the case. Four selections were traded between No. 22 and No. 28 a year ago. At this juncture of the process, it all appears very fluid at the end of the first round for this draft class, with numerous prospects ranging from Nos. 20-60 having returned to college to seize upon NIL riches.

It's maybe not the most surprising thing, like Fischer says, but the Utah Jazz are set up well to potentially move into that section of the draft. Could one of Jordan Clarkson, Collin Sexton, or John Collins get them there? It seems very possible, depending on the contracts that are moved.
Teams that are potentially trading up
From Fischer
Like the Thunder, Orlando and Brooklyn have also been mentioned by rival executives as teams to monitor for potential trades up into the late lottery.
Brooklyn holds first-round picks at Nos. 19, 26 and 27 ... all after its No. 8 selection. Orlando holds the Nos. 16 and 25 picks on June 25 and faces a roster crunch similar to that in OKC with 15 players on standard contracts for next season ... albeit with veterans like Moe Wagner and Gary Harris on team options.
The Brooklyn Nets and Orlando Magic have the potential picks to move up, but how far will they go? The Utah Jazz have the assets to potentially move up as well. The question is, will they do it? Or do they want to? Being at #5 is a great spot, and, if it's any solace to Jazz fans depressed by the lottery results, Brooklyn and Orlando would love to trade to where the Jazz are now. If the Jazz want to move up, they're in the realistic range to get to maybe 2,3, or 4. That is, if they're willing to give up the requisite assets. I do think #3 and #4 are the most possible, if the Jazz do want to move up.
New Utah Jazz rumors!
Sarah Todd dropped some great stuff in her recent Jazz Insiders newsletter. Let's dive in.

What Austin Ainge probably meant with his press conference
Local media went crazy with the 'We won't be doing that' quote. Todd writes about how opposing GMs took those comments:
The rest of the NBA world took that to mean that the Jazz would be fielding a roster during the 2025-26 season that would not need to manipulate things in order to lose enough games for a high draft pick. In order to do that, the Jazz would need to make a few trades.
And there you have it, it wasn't meant to imply that Utah's offseason will turn into a win-now offseason. It was more likely that they would play to win but still lose anyway. Austin Ainge has repeatedly emphasized the importance of next year's pick, after all. But Todd is right, Utah does need to make some moves to make this happen.
It sounds like those opposing GMs are speculating on available Jazz players via trade.
So, there have been some quiet rumblings around the league the last few days about the availability of Jazz players via trade.
Apparently, it's going to be an active offseason for the Jazz.

Everyone is on the table
Todd writes what players opposing GMs expect will be available from the Jazz.
Numerous league sources have indicated that they believe the Jazz are going to be active over the next several weeks. Many expect that the Jazz are willing to hear offers that would include draft picks in the 2025 draft as well as players on the Jazz's current roster.
Obvious candidates for trade would be John Collins, Collin Sexton and Jordan Clarkson, who are all on expiring deals as of the 2025-26 season, but league sources have said that they expect for conversations to include Walker Kessler (who is extension eligible) and Lauri Markkanen.
The note about Collins, Sexton, and Clarkson is not surprising. But the news that Markkanen and Kessler will be included in trade conversations is an interesting one. It could be that opposing GMs are just trying to drum up a trade, or maybe they've had talks with the Jazz that give them an educated guess of what's coming.
Either way, we're going to see something happen this summer.

A big Lakers trade target at center may become available this summer

A big Lakers trade target at center may become available this summer There have been a few centers the Los Angeles Lakers have reportedly been interested in for some time as they have looked to plug the big hole they have had at the 5. One such player is Walker Kessler of the Utah Jazz. Kessler, who will turn 24 years of age on July 26, may not be the supremely athletic, bouncy center the Lakers ideally want. But he's a force defensively and on the boards, and he's a strong finisher at the rim and a lob threat, which checks several other boxes on the list of abilities they need in a big man. He averaged 11.1 points, 12.2 rebounds and 2.4 blocks a game while shooting 66.3% from the field this season. Since he only has three years of NBA experience, there is every chance he continues to improve, especially offensively, as time goes on. The Jazz, according to at least one report, weren't willing to trade Kessler prior to this year's trade deadline. But according to NBA reporter Sarah Todd, they will be willing to listen to offers for him and other key players such as former All-Star Lauri Markkanen this summer. Via Deseret News: "Numerous league sources have indicated that they believe the Jazz are going to be active over the next several weeks," wrote Sarah Todd. "Many expect that the Jazz are willing to hear offers that would include draft picks in the 2025 draft as well as players on the Jazz's current roster. "Obvious candidates for trade would be John Collins, Collin Sexton and Jordan Clarkson, who are all on expiring deals as of the 2025-26 season, but league sources have said that they expect for conversations to include Walker Kessler (who is extension eligible) and Lauri Markkanen." Kessler will make a shade under $5 million next season, so acquiring him may not cost Los Angeles a lot in the way of players. However, one would have to expect the Jazz to ask for significant draft compensation, which means a third team may need to get involved. It is also worth mentioning that the chief executive officer of the Jazz is Danny Ainge, the former Boston Celtics guard who played in three NBA Finals against the Lakers in the mid-1980s. Although Ainge participated in February's Luka Doncic trade by bringing in Utah as a third team, it is not easy to imagine him doing his old rivals a solid by sending them Kessler at a fair price.

Skateboarding: 7 skate parks on the Treasure Coast, 3 more coming soon

The skateboarding scene on the Treasure Coast is growing. At least three new skate parks are in the works for Martin, St. Lucie and Indian River counties — adding to the existing seven skate parks in the area where skateboarding is allowed. In the East Stuart neighborhood, about 12,500 square feet has been designated for a skate park at Guy Davis Park, specifically at 724 S.E. 10th St., according to city spokesperson Misti Guertin. City officials are waiting on a conceptual rendering, followed by comments from the design team, Guertin said. They are expecting to bring project details to the commissioners this year. In Port St. Lucie's Torino area, city officials have been getting community feedback about the skateboarding features at the skate park at the future Torino Regional Park, a 195-acre complex on North Torino Parkway. Construction is expected to begin during the first few months of 2026, according to officials. Action Sports Design, the company behind the skate park, is making it accessible to skateboarders, bikers, scooter riders, in-line skaters and more. In Vero Beach's Three Corners area near the former power plant, the Vero Beach Skate Park Alliance — which turned 10 years old in May — is waiting for details about the city's plan with its chosen developer for the Three Corners project before it has more information about a skate park going there. The project is a mixed-use development of entertainment, recreation, restaurants, shopping and open space that would be built on city-owned land along the waterfront at 17th Street and Indian River Boulevard. Until the new skate parks open, here are the seven existing skate parks across the Treasure Coast and what they have to offer skateboarders. The Sebastian Skate Park opened in 2001 and since was rebuilt with concrete features, including three ramps, a jersey barrier, boxes and the skating floor. It hasn't been supervised by city officials since 2019. 1121 Barber St., Sebastian; open 8 a.m. to sunset daily; The Fellsmere Skate Park opened in October 2021 at the end of Myrtle Street near the basketball courts. It was funded through a $700,000 Florida Small Cities Community Development Block Grant. The park was proposed five years ago by then 10-year-old Kyle Goldsmith of Fellsmere, who approached the City Council about the need for more recreational opportunities for local youth. 222 S. Myrtle St., Fellsmere The Lawnwood Skate Park opened in 2008 next to the Havert L. Fenn Center in Fort Pierce. Orlando-based Team Pain worked through architecture firm Glatting Jackson Kercher Anglin Lopez Rinehart, which has built ramps and parks for the X Games and Tony Hawk. For a year, they teamed with St. Lucie County Parks and Recreation staff and the skate park committee to design the plans and build the $500,000, 15,000-square-foot concrete facility. The architects gave blank sheets of paper to the kids on the committee for them to draw their skate park. It includes a street area with a four-flat, four-double set with a square handrail and a hubba; a 50-foot-long ledge with three smaller handrails; a curved ledge; a manual pad ledge; a bench; a whale tail ledge; and a snake run. 2100 Virginia Ave., Fort Pierce; open 8 a.m. to dusk daily; The skate park at Mary Brogan Park in Stuart opened in 2000 at 12,000 square feet in size. 5050 S.E. Willoughby Blvd., Stuart; sunrise to 9 p.m. daily; The skate park at Jock Leighton Park in Palm City opened in 2004. It's 13,382 square feet in size and includes a 6-foot half-pipe, a street course with two fun boxes in the middle — one with a rail and another with a ledge — two corner pyramid boxes and a big bank drop-in section. 3755 S.W. Mapp Road, Palm City; open sunrise to 8:15 p.m. Sunday-Thursday, sunrise to 9:15 p.m. Friday-Saturday; The Pat Mark Rio-Jensen Skate Park at Langford Park in Jensen Beach opened in 2003. It's 15,000 square feet in size with a 3,000-square-foot street course that was added in 2011. It has a 30-inch drop-in ramp, an earthquake gap, a grass gap, a manual pad with grind rail, a multilevel combo pad, straight and curved grind ledges, a 4-foot-tall taco and a hubba. It's the only skate park in Martin County with a staff member present during specific hours of operation. 2151 N.E. Dixie Highway, Jensen Beach; open sunrise to 8 p.m. Sunday-Thursday, sunrise to 9 p.m. Friday-Saturday; Skate City: Only outdoor public skating rink on Treasure Coast reopens Port St. Lucie: City is planning two new parks The skate park at Post Family Park in Indiantown opened in 2002 at 7,000 square feet. Since then, the skate park was renovated and all the equipment had been replaced, and it reopened in July 2024. It's the only skate park in Martin County where skate cards aren't required. 15700 S.W.
