Counsellor arrested for duping Pune-based edu institute

Pune: The crime branch of the Pune police arrested Kunalkumar Vidyarthi, an education counsellor and a resident of Bihar, for publishing an online advertisement with the photograph of a Pune-based education institute, its webpage, and logo in an alleged admission fraud case. "Vidyarthi and his wife were in the process of boarding a flight to Thailand from Kolkata airport on May 31. We took him into custody following a tip-off and brought him to the city for further action," said senior inspector Ulhas Kadam from the crime branch's anti-narcotics cell. The police produced Vidyarthi before a magisterial court, which ordered his custodial remand till June 5. Kadam said the modus operandi of Vidyarthi involved issuing an online advertisement to lure students and promising to help them secure admission to various courses in exchange for money. When this came to the notice of the institute, its official registered an FIR relating to cheating against Vidyarthi and two others with the Deccan Gymkhana police on April 2, 2024. A police team conducted searches at suspected places in Maharashtra, Haryana and Delhi to trace Vidyarthi, but his whereabouts remained unknown as he constantly changed his hideouts to evade arrest. Kadam said, "We collected details of Vidyarthi's criminal antecedents and came to know that he is also wanted in a cheating case registered with the city cybercrime police in 2021. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Switch to UnionBank Rewards Card UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo His anticipatory bail plea was rejected by the sessions court, but he did not surrender himself before the police." The officer said a lookout notice was issued to deter him from escaping the country. "We then received information that he would be flying to Thailand from Kolkata airport. We arrested him a few minutes before his boarding," he said. "We are interrogating him to find out the number of students he duped and to arrest his two accomplices who are on the run," Kadam added.

'Traditional banks losing share to fintechs globally'

MUMBAI: Traditional banks are losing ground in the fast-evolving financial services space to agile, tech-driven rivals. Even as overall sector revenues grow, incumbents struggle to hold on to their share, according to Boston Consulting Group's latest Future of Finance report. "Financial services revenues are growing - but banks are not capturing their fair share," BCG says. The value, it notes, is shifting to fintechs, private credit funds, non-bank liquidity providers, and digital-native banks. "Maturing digital assets appear to be on pace to cause significant disruption, with most banks currently on the outside looking in." The fastest-growing players are also the most digitally savvy. Digital attacker banks clocked 85-100% CAGR in revenues over the past five years. Private credit players and retail trading platforms are close behind. Traditional banks, in contrast, posted only 10-15% CAGR, despite holding the largest share of balance-sheet assets. The challengers' edge stems from scalable platforms, lean cost structures, and a digital-first approach. "Non-traditional bank competitors are generating new revenue pools," BCG says. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 임플란트 최대 할인 지원해드려요 임플란터 더 알아보기 Undo "The best attackers are positioned for rapid growth, thanks to modern technology stacks and front-to-back digitised operating models." The disruption extends beyond retail finance. In capital markets, boutique advisory firms and non-bank market makers are chipping away at incumbents' fee income. "Private credit has been gnawing away at bank share, particularly in the US," the report says. At the same time, banks are grappling with long-term structural challenges. Fee income is in decline, non-interest income productivity dropped across geographies, and cost pressures are rising. Despite years of tech investment, efficiency improvements are slowing. "Many banks struggle to counter these trends," BCG says, noting that pricing remains an underused lever. Neobanks' cost-to-serve, the report adds, is often a tenth that of incumbents. "New competitors are winning on productivity." Investors have picked up on this divergence. In East Asia and the Eurozone, most bank stocks trade below book value. "Investors are avoiding banks that may be in a vicious cycle of outdated operating model and low profitability," BCG warns. After Jefferies and Rosenblatt Securities, Needham downgrades Apple; says: For this stock to work, it must have ...

Apple Inc. shares declined 0.6% in premarket trading on Wednesday, signaling a continuation of its 2025 struggles, with the stock down 19% year-to-date, the weakest performance among the Magnificent Seven, according to Bloomberg. Wall Street's concerns center on Apple's growth prospects and its lagging position in the artificial intelligence (AI) landscape, compounded by competitive pressures and political risks. Needham & Company downgraded Apple to hold from buy, joining a growing list of firms tempering expectations. Analyst Laura Martin highlighted multiple risks, including intense competition, sluggish growth, and a valuation that 'looks expensive on several metrics.' She noted, 'For this stock to work, it must have the catalyst of an iPhone replacement cycle , which we do not foresee in the next 12 months,' per Bloomberg. Martin also pointed to Apple's slow progress in generative AI, stating that innovations in this space 'open the door for new hardware form factors that threaten iOS devices.' What is hurting Apple stock The selloff partly reflects political uncertainty, as Apple's global manufacturing footprint makes it vulnerable to tariffs, with the Trump administration repeatedly targeting the company. Additionally, Apple's AI struggles have intensified scrutiny. The recent acquisition of io, a startup co-founded by former Apple design icon Jony Ive, by OpenAI underscores the competitive threat in AI-driven innovation, potentially challenging Apple's hardware dominance. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo Needham's downgrade follows similar moves by Jefferies and Rosenblatt Securities in May, with Oppenheimer, MoffettNathanson, Loop Capital, Aletheia Capital, and DBS Bank also cutting ratings earlier in 2025, Bloomberg reports. Only 58% of analysts tracked by Bloomberg now recommend buying Apple, a stark contrast to peers like Microsoft, Amazon, Nvidia, and Meta, which boast buy ratios near or above 90%. Apple's challenges in AI, coupled with macroeconomic headwinds and a lack of near-term catalysts, continue to weigh on investor sentiment.
