Cobolli upsets Rublev to win Hamburg Open
HAMBURG, Germany :Italy's Flavio Cobolli won the biggest title of his career when he upset third seed Andrey Rublev 6-2 6-4 to win the Hamburg Open on Saturday.
Ranked number 35 in the world, Cobolli had only one ATP 250 title to his name, having won the Romanian Open last month, but the 23-year-old now has two claycourt titles after beating Rublev in the final of the ATP 500 event.
He is just the third player to win multiple titles on the ATP Tour this year after Carlos Alcaraz (three) and Felix Auger-Aliassime (also two), while the victory will see him rise to a career-high 26th in the rankings.
"I think it is the best moment and match of my life for sure. I have to say sorry to Andrey because today I played unbelievable. I am so happy and proud of myself," Cobolli said.
"I can see my family, friends, brother and girlfriend here and it is a surprise. I am really happy. I passed many battles this year and this kind of day is good for your mind. I am so happy, I just want to (lift) the trophy."
After Cobolli convincingly took the opening set, Rublev went 3-2 up in the second but the momentum shifted after a 31-shot rally where the Russian tried to make Cobolli run for most points.
Cobolli turned the tables when he fired a scorching forehand winner to get the point and as the Italian put his hand to his ear to get the crowd roaring, a spent Rublev bent over in exhaustion.
Rublev never recovered and although he had seven break points in the contest, Cobolli saved six of them.
The Italian converted all four of his own break points to wrap up the match in an hour and 28 minutes.
He will have no time to rest, however, as he looks ahead to a match against former Grand Slam champion Marin Cilic in the first round of the French Open, which begins on Sunday.

One Cycling project not included in next season's UCI calendar
The UCI opted not to include the One Cycling project when it launched its World Tour and Women's World Tour calendars for 2026 on Thursday, with the governing body saying it was incompatible with its regulatory framework. The project, reportedly backed by an investment firm owned by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF), aims to revolutionise cycling with the support of major teams and race organisers. One Cycling wanted an overhaul of the calendar and the possible creation of new competitions to generate new sources of revenue. "The project, which had been developed by certain teams and organisers in collaboration with a sports investment fund, was deemed incompatible with the governance and regulatory framework of the UCI as well as lacking sporting coherence," a UCI press release said. The UCI said it welcomed the fact that cycling is attracting new investors and wished to continue discussions with the project's representatives. There is one addition to the women's calendar with the Dwars door Vlaanderen on April 1, after the race had previously been run on the UCI ProSeries calendar, the second-tier tour. In an effort to promote the continued development of women's cycling, the UCI Management Committee approved a 20 per cent increase in the participation allowance paid by organisers of Women's World Tour events to participating teams.

Raducanu powers into Queen's Club quarters as last Briton standing
LONDON :Emma Raducanu cruised into the quarter-finals at the Queen's Club Championships with a 6-4 6-1 victory over Rebecca Sramkova on Thursday but fellow Britons Katie Boulter and Heather Watson were knocked out. The stands at the Andy Murray Arena were packed for Raducanu's victory as she advanced as the lone Briton left in the tournament and she will potentially play top seed and Paris Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen, who is playing later on Thursday. The Slovakian won four games on the trot as Raducanu's winners dried up but the Briton then recovered and served to love to seal the opening set, flashing a sheepish smile at her team as she walked back to her seat. Raducanu took confidence from her first serve and she started the second set as she did the first, racing into a 4-0 lead after she quickly consolidated a double break when Sramkova made a slew of errors. Raducanu then won the contest by converting a sixth break point, with victory confirming the former U.S. Open champion's status as the British number one again, leapfrogging her doubles partner Boulter. "I don't think it was my cleanest performance, but I'm really happy to have pushed through in some tight moments that decided the first set," Raducanu said. "It was really helpful... to have a big roar of support to get me through that last service game. So I appreciate that." Fourth seed Elena Rybakina showcased her power as she fired nine aces to beat Watson 6-4 6-2 after the Briton failed to capitalise on seven break points. Former Wimbledon champion Rybakina also became the first female player to fire 200 aces this year. "It was a tough match, she played really well. I am pretty happy with my game, especially in the second set," Rybakina said. "Hopefully with every match it will be better and better. I am enjoying my time here." Meanwhile, Russian fifth seed Diana Shnaider fought back from a set down to beat Boulter 2-6 6-3 6-2 to set up a quarter-final with Australian Open champion Madison Keys. "Katie is such a lovely person, I love her with all my heart. To play her and beat her in front of her home crowd, I am so sorry," Shnaider said.

Galatasaray sign Bayern Munich's Sane
Galatasaray have signed Germany winger Leroy Sane, who will join the club as a free agent on a three-year deal when he leaves Bayern Munich at the end of this month, Turkish Super Lig champions Galatasaray said on Thursday. The 29-year-old Sane said farewell to Bayern fans in a video posted on social media on Thursday. Sane, capped 70 times for Germany, has bagged 61 goals and registered 55 assists in 220 appearances for Bayern in all competitions.
