‘Ashada' season: Start arrangements atop Chamundi Hills, says DC
The deputy commissioner told the officers to start the preparations ahead of the season with the first Friday falling on June 27.
Like every year, the meeting decided not to allow private vehicles atop the hills on the four Fridays and also during the Vardhantotsava to ease traffic congestion. As usual, the vehicles have to be parked on the foothills of Chamundi near Lalitha Mahal helipad and devotees have to travel to the temple in buses.
The four Ashada Fridays will be on June 27, July 4, 11 and 18, and the Vardhantotsava will be on July 17.
The DC told the police commissioner to make necessary bandobast arrangements for the Fridays and the MCC has been asked to make arrangements for drinking water, and ensure cleanliness.
The CESC has been asked to light up 1,000 steps to the hill as devotees climb to reach the hill temple. This is apart from the illumination of the temples atop the hills.
The special darshan tickets have been priced at ₹50 and ₹300.
Police Commissioner Seema Latkar, MCC Commissioner Sheikh Tanveer Asif and others were present.

Land acquisition begins for Rs 22,864cr Shillong-Silchar high-speed corridor
Shillong: Land acquisition process for the construction of the Shillong-Silchar Greenfield high-speed four-lane corridor has officially begun, with the route passing through Ri-Bhoi district in Meghalaya. District deputy commissioner Abhilash Baranwal has urged residents not to undertake any new construction or development activities within the designated area for the proposed highway. "It is hereby clearly stated that any unauthorised structures — whether temporary or permanent — erected within the proposed alignment after the issuance of this notice will not be considered eligible for compensation during land acquisition or project implementation," a notification issued by the DC stated. The cabinet committee on economic affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had earlier approved the development, maintenance, and management of a 166.80 km Greenfield Access Controlled section of NH-06 from Mawlyngkhung (near Shillong) in Meghalaya to Panchgram (near Silchar) in Assam. The project will be executed under the hybrid annuity mode at a total capital cost of Rs 22,864 crore. It is expected to reduce travel time and distance, thereby boosting logistics efficiency nationwide. The corridor will also improve economic development in Meghalaya, especially in cement and coal-producing areas, and promote tourism by connecting scenic destinations across the northeast. Authorities to regulate traffic flow to Mullayanagiri to prevent landslides
Chikkamagaluru: In a bid to manage weekend traffic congestion and mitigate environmental risks, the Chikkamagaluru district administration on Wednesday announced a new slot-based vehicular entry system to the hill station of Mullayanagiri, the highest peak in Karnataka. Deputy Commissioner C N Meena Nagaraj, addressing the media, said soon vehicles will be allowed uphill in two time slots daily--from 6 am to noon, and again from 1 pm to 6 pm--with a cap of 600 vehicles per slot. A one-hour buffer between slots will enable vehicles already at the summit to descend without added traffic pressure. To further streamline operations, parking will be provided at Seethalayyanagiri, and tourists will be encouraged to trek or use permitted departmental jeeps and Tata Tempos. According to the DC, an online pre-booking system for vehicles is being introduced. However, during red alert, weather warnings or religious events such as temple fairs at Seethalayyanagiri and tourist bookings will be suspended. Local devotees will be granted free access during such periods. Over the past six months, approximately 2.5 lakh vehicles have used the narrow ghat road to reach the peak. The official cited a recent study by geologists warning of landslide risks due to high vehicular movement, particularly during long weekends when mini-buses and TT vehicles dominate the route. According to officials, the Seethalayyanagiri public restrooms will be fully renovated, and efforts are underway to develop a food court model for vendors. Licences had earlier been granted to 35 shops in the region by the local panchayat, and the tourism department will now regulate them under a unified plan funded by a recently sanctioned grant. Local residents will be provided with special passes after submitting required documentation to the tourism department, ensuring their access is not hindered.

People in large numbers throng Chamundi Hills on last Ashada Friday
The last Friday of the Ashada season witnessed a massive rush of devotees at the Chamundi Hills, as thousands of people visited the temple of Goddess Chamundeshwari to seek blessings. Visiting the Chamundeshwari temple on Ashada Fridays is a centuries-old tradition in the region, and has gained more traction in recent years. As a result, not only people from Mysuru, but also from nearby districts and other parts of the State made a beeline to the hill shrine on Friday. The temple was decorated with flowers to mark the event, while religious rites and ceremonies commenced at dawn. As the entry of private vehicles was banned to regulate traffic, KSRTC had introduced shuttle services from the Lalitha Mahal Palace grounds to Chamundi Hills for the devotees. In sync with the tradition, many devotees walked up 1008 steps barefoot leading to the shrine. Among them was Minister of State for MSMEs Shobha Karandlaje, who has been following this tradition for years. As it was the last Friday of Ashada, the district administration had anticipated heavy rush and had made adequate arrangements to enable the public to have a hassle-free darshan at the temple. But the authorities also had to manage the 'VIPs', including ministers and political leaders who made a beeline. Minister K.H. Muniyappa, BJP State president B.Y. Vijayendra, and others were among the ones who visited. The serpentine queue winding along the barricades was lengthy since dawn and police personnel were deployed in large numbers to handle any exigency.
