Sharjah Islamic Affairs opens 4 new Mosques in Sharjah
Different architectural styles
The four mosques feature diverse architectural styles that blend various Islamic and modern architectural styles. They were built at the expense of philanthropists. Their opening is part of the department's plan for the current year to meet community needs and provide an integrated spiritual environment for worshippers, contributing to strengthening the social fabric and consolidating Islamic values.
Al Ghaith Mosque
Al Ghaith Mosque was built in Al Mawridah 8 in the Al Siouh suburb, covering a total area of 11,312 square meters. It includes a prayer hall and its service facilities, and can accommodate 700 worshippers, including 130 for the women's prayer area.
The mosque's opening was attended by His Excellency Abdullah Khalifa Yarouf Al Fasbousi, Chairman of the Islamic Affairs Department, accompanied by the mosque's donor, a number of Islamic Affairs officials, and residents of the suburb. They performed the noon prayer and listened to a sermon on the virtues of building and caring for mosques in the Emirate of Sharjah.
Unays ibn Qatada Mosque
The Department also inaugurated the Unays ibn Qatada Mosque in Al Mawridah 8 in the Al Siouh suburb. The mosque covers a total area of 3,532 square meters, including a prayer hall and its service facilities. The mosque can accommodate 700 worshippers, including 140 for the women's prayer area.
Rafi' bin Malik Mosque
Rafi' bin Malik Mosque was built in the Al-Morada 4 area of the Al-Siouh suburb, covering a total area of 3,605 square meters, including a prayer hall and its service facilities. The mosque can accommodate 600 worshippers, including 82 for the women's prayer area.
Bab Al-Rayyan mosque
In Al-Rahmaniya suburb of the Shaghrafa 2 area, the department inaugurated the "Bab Al-Rayyan" Mosque. It was built on a total area of 11,940 square meters, including a prayer hall and its service facilities. The mosque can accommodate 2,000 worshippers, including 110 for the women's prayer area.

Ajman Air Quality Index rises to 96.19% percent in H1
The Department of Municipality and Planning – Ajman has announced that the emirate's Air Quality Index (AQI) reached 96.19 percent during the first half of 2025, according to a report issued by the Department on environmental statistics. The achievement aligns with the Ajman Vision 2030 objectives to promote environmental sustainability. In this context, Dr. Eng. Khalid Moeen Al Hosani, Executive Director of the Public Health and Environment Sector at the Department, confirmed that the index has witnessed a significant increase compared to previous years, having recorded 94.40 percent in the first half of 2024 and 93.48 percent during the same period in 2023. This, he said, confirms the effectiveness of the Department's environmental initiatives and the success of its plans to reduce air pollution and promote sustainability. Dr. Eng. Al Hosani noted that the progress is the result of continuous efforts and integrated planning, including the launch of several environmental projects and initiatives, most notably the Environmental Compliance Programme. This initiative aims to enhance control over industrial facilities by requiring the submission of semi-annual reports assessing air pollution levels, thereby enhancing environmental compliance and enabling corrective actions where necessary. He stated that the network of the seven accredited air quality measurement stations has been established in accordance with international standards and within the classification of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, indicating that the Department seeks to increase the number of stations to 10 in the coming years to keep pace with urban growth in the emirate. Dr. Eng. Al Hosani stated that all monitoring stations are connected to the Environmental Data Management Programme, a leading system locally and regionally, which enables the receipt of notifications, preparation of environmental reports and continuous air quality monitoring. The stations are equipped with advanced measuring devices to monitor key environmental variables such as wind speed and direction, relative humidity and primary gases. He further emphasised that environmental efforts are ongoing, with the Department continuing to adopt best local and international environmental practices. These initiatives contribute to enhancing the attractiveness of the Emirate of Ajman as a healthy and safe living environment, while supporting the UAE's broader objective of achieving carbon neutrality.

He added that significant numbers of applications were received from Quran memorizers in the United States, Canada, Russia, and European countries such as the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden. Applications were also submitted from many other countries across Asia and Africa, in addition to New Mansouri pointed out that this level of global interest aligns with the goals of the award's new developmental vision, through which Dubai aims to expand its influential role in serving the Holy Quran, promoting its memorization, encouraging excellence in recitation and understanding of its sciences, and instilling its values and teachings among the younger generation. He stressed that this growing international interest motivates the award to accelerate efforts and develop more initiatives, programs, and tools to encourage a greater number of countries, institutions, and individuals to engage positively in Quran memorization and recitation, and deepen their connection to its sciences. Preliminary Evaluation Stage UnderwayThe Dubai International Holy Quran Award received 5,816 applications during the registration period, which ran from May 21 to July 20. Of these, 30% were submitted under the female category. All eligible applications have entered the preliminary evaluation stage, which began early July and will continue until the end of the applicants from the preliminary round will move to the second stage, which will involve direct video calls between the memorizers and the evaluation committee. This phase will run from September 1 to 30. Finalists will then advance to the final evaluation round, which will take place in person in Dubai during the second week of Ramadan. Among the groundbreaking updates in this edition is the introduction of a dedicated category for female participants, bringing the total number of categories to three: Full Quran Memorization – Male, Full Quran Memorization – Female, and the Islamic Personality of the Year Award. Participants may now apply through direct personal nomination, via a recognized Islamic center, or through official bodies worldwide. The developmental vision also includes expanding the scope of international participation, modernizing nomination, evaluation, and judging procedures, and launching new initiatives to enhance the quality and performance of participants.
