I tested ChatGPT Agent on 5 everyday tasks — here's what happened
To find out, I tested ChatGPT Agent with five very real tasks from my everyday life. Some were impressive. Others were frustrating. But all of them offered a glimpse into what the future of AI-powered assistance might actually look like.
Here's what happened when I put ChatGPT Agent to work.
Prompt: 'Help me find the Big Into Energy Labubu near me.'I've already found the Big into Energy Labubu with Google Search, but I wanted to see if using ChatGPT Agent was any easier. As one of the hottest toys on the market, it's nearly impossible to track one of these things down.ChatGPT followed up questioning whether I wanted more information or to purchase one. In this case, I said purchase because information is much easier to find. From there, the AI went to work. I could actually see it checking various websites, reading information, thinking and more within the chat window.
In six minutes, the Agent found the Labubu I requested, added it to the cart, and headed to the checkout. It then asked for my shipping address and credit card information. I was able to take control of ChatGPT's browser to finalize the sale.
Verdict: This was much faster and easier than using Google. I will definitely be using ChatGPT Agent in the future for hard-to-find items.
Prompt:"Plan a 4-day family trip to San Diego, including flights from Newark, hotel options with a pool, and activities for kids under 10. Book everything using my Google account and save an itinerary in Google Docs."
When I attempted to move on to the second task, my entire computer crashed and I got an error. After logging back in again, I was able to start a new task.This prompt was a very ambitious task, but I decided to go big to really see what the ChatGPT Agent could do. The AI truly flexed its potential and its limits with this one.
The agent searched Google Flights, compared hotels with kid-friendly amenities, and listed family attractions like the San Diego Zoo, LEGOLAND, and beach days. It created a beautiful daily itinerary in Docs and even embedded links to book the trip.
Luckily, booking required my manual approval. For privacy and safety reasons (thankfully), the agent doesn't auto-purchase flights or rooms. Instead, it pre-filled forms and waited for me to hit "confirm."
Honestly, I don't think I could ever let AI handle this part for me. I'm too much of a control freak when it comes to vacations and I don't trust AI.
Verdict: An incredible planning tool and I think it's fun to see the AI 'working' through the prompt. I don't think that will ever get old.
Prompt: "Create a 5-day healthy dinner meal plan under 600 calories per meal. Then generate a grocery list, check prices at my local ShopRite, and export it to a spreadsheet."
Meal planning is one of those chores that sounds easy until it's 5 p.m. and your fridge is full of random ingredients that don't go together. ChatGPT Agent solved that problem fast.
It generated five balanced dinner recipes (lemon herb chicken, veggie stir-fry, ravioli, etc.) with simple ingredients and clear instructions. Then it built a grocery list categorized by section (produce, pantry, dairy), checked local prices through Instacart data, and exported everything to Google Sheets.
It even told me which ingredients were on sale nearby. I emailed the list to myself to use next time I go shopping.
Verdict: I often refer to AI as a 'game-changer' sometimes ad nauseum, but it's so wildly helpful for things like this, that I can't think of a better descriptor. This task felt like having a personal nutritionist and assistant rolled into one. 10/10 will use again.
Prompt: "Order me a chicken Caesar wrap and a lemonade from DoorDash."
Luckily, ChatGPT didn't crash after the first time and I was ready to order lunch. Immediately arriving on DoorDash, the AI asked me to log in. I wanted to make this as 'hands off' as possible so I told it to use the site as a guest.
I had read in several forums that ordering food had caused some users to get frustrated at ChatGPT Agent. So I was prepared for things to go awry. The only hiccup I had was the AI not knowing my zip code because it signed in as a guest. Once I told it, everything went smoothly.It ordered my lunch and then handed everything over to me when it was time to pay and enter my address. Because I hadn't specified a restaurant, I was impressed by ChatGPT's ability to find a chicken Caesar wrap on its own.Verdict: More of a helpful sidekick than a hands-free solution. This wasn't much of a time saver and I probably will order lunch for myself without using ChatGPT Agent.
Prompt: 'I have to renew my license and get a real ID. Can you book an appointment for me at my local Department of Motor Vehicles?'When I got a notice in the mail the other day that I couldn't renew my license online, I got that feeling of dread in the pit of my stomach. The thought of spending hours at my local Motor Vehicle office especially in the summer, was overwhelming.
But in 19 seconds, ChatGPT pulled up everything I needed to book an appointment and I was all set. Zero hassle.
Verdict: Fast, smart and surprisingly effective for a niche errand.
ChatGPT Agent isn't perfect, but it's one of the most capable AI tools I've tested to date. It won't replace your human assistant just yet, but if you're like me and don't have a human assistant to begin with, it's the next best thing.
It can handle real, time-consuming tasks that go far beyond answering questions or summarizing PDFs.
If you're already using ChatGPT Plus or Team, it's absolutely worth trying — just be prepared to step in here and there and occasionally restart the app completely.

Google blocked uBlock Origin in Chrome — here's how to get ad-free browsing back
Google's Chrome 138 update killed uBlock Origin and other popular extensions, leaving millions without their favorite ad blocker. While Google claims this improves security, many users just want ad blocking back — especially when YouTube hits you with double ads and streaming services like Peacock force commercial breaks. In this guide, we'll show you two ways to restore uBlock Origin in Chrome — whether you already have it installed and need to re-enable it, or you're starting fresh and want to install it from scratch. Both methods involve enabling hidden Chrome flags that temporarily bring back support for older extensions. This workaround won't last forever, as Google plans to remove these flags in future updates, but it buys you some time to enjoy ad-free browsing. Here's how to re-enable or install uBlock Origin in Chrome. Open Google Chrome and type "chrome://flags" into the address bar, then press Enter to access Chrome's experimental features page. Search for "Temporarily unexpire M137 flags" and set it to "Enabled." This flag allows you to access older Chrome settings that Google has started to phase out. Then click the blue "Relaunch" button at the bottom of the page to restart Chrome with this setting enabled. Go back to chrome://flags and search for "MV2" to quickly find all Manifest V2-related settings. You need to disable these three specific flags that are blocking older extensions: "Extension Manifest V2 Deprecation Warning Stage", "Extension Manifest V2 Deprecation Disabled Stage" and "Extension Manifest V2 Deprecation Unsupported Stage." Set each of these flags to "Disabled" by clicking their dropdown menus. These flags are what's preventing uBlock Origin and other older extensions from working properly in the current version of Chrome. Still on the chrome://flags page, search for "Allow legacy extension manifest versions" and set it to "Enabled". This flag tells Chrome to accept and run extensions built with the older Manifest V2 framework that uBlock Origin uses. Then click the "Relaunch" button again to restart Chrome with all your new flag settings active. After Chrome restarts, your existing uBlock Origin extension should automatically reactivate and start blocking ads again. You should see the uBlock Origin icon appear in your browser toolbar, indicating it's working properly. Open Google Chrome and type "chrome://flags" into the address bar, then press Enter. This takes you to Chrome's experimental features page where you can enable hidden settings that Google doesn't include in regular menus. The flags page looks different from normal web pages, with a warning that these features are experimental. Don't worry though, the changes we're making are safe and reversible. Use the search box at the top of the page to find specific flags quickly rather than scrolling through hundreds of options. This page contains advanced settings that can modify how Chrome behaves with extensions and other features. Search for "Allow legacy extension manifest versions" in the flags search box and you'll see the setting appear with a dropdown menu next to it. Click the dropdown and change it from "Default" to "Enabled." This flag tells Chrome to accept older-style extensions like uBlock Origin that use Manifest V2. Chrome will show a blue "Relaunch" button at the bottom of the page— click it to restart the browser with your new settings. After restarting, Chrome will now accept the older extension format that uBlock Origin uses. Go to the uBlock Origin GitHub page at to download the latest version directly from the developers. Look for the "Assets" section under the most recent release and click on the file that ends with " This contains the Chrome-compatible version of uBlock Origin. It will automatically save to your computer once clicked. Type "chrome://extensions" in Chrome's address bar to open the extensions management page. Look for the "Developer mode" toggle in the top-right corner and turn it on if it's not already enabled. This allows you to install extensions from files rather than the Chrome Web Store. Click the "Load unpacked" button that appears in the top-left corner of the extensions page. Navigate to the folder where you extracted the uBlock Origin files and select it. Chrome will install the extension directly from the folder, bypassing the Web Store restrictions. Close and reopen Chrome to ensure all settings take effect properly. You should now see the uBlock Origin icon in your browser toolbar, indicating the extension is active and working. Visit a website that normally shows ads to test that the ad blocker is functioning correctly. The extension should block advertisements just like it did before Google's update. Keep in mind that this workaround is temporary, Google plans to remove these flags in future Chrome updates, so you may need to consider switching to Firefox, Opera or Edge if you want long-term ad blocking. YouTube will soon let Android users switch off that annoying Auto Zoom feature (APK teardown)
Edgar Cervantes / Android Authority TL;DR A few weeks back, YouTube's Android app introduced a new Auto Zoom feature that automatically zooms in on videos in landscape mode, with no way of turning it off in settings. Auto Zoom is separate from the 'Zoom to fill screen' option and activates inconsistently, causing frustration amongst YouTube users. Thankfully, YouTube is preparing to add a new toggle in the app's settings to turn off Auto Zoom. A few weeks ago, users began noticing a new Auto Zoom feature in the YouTube app for Android. This feature activates automatically, with no need to enable it manually in the app's settings. Unfortunately, what it does can be quite frustrating. When you switch to landscape mode, Auto Zoom zooms in on the video to fill the entire screen by dynamically adjusting the frame. The issue is that it crops the edges of the video, cutting out content, and worse, it can't currently be disabled in settings. Well, it looks like a solution might be on the way. ⚠️ An APK teardown helps predict features that may arrive on a service in the future based on work-in-progress code. However, it is possible that such predicted features may not make it to a public release. It's important to note that Auto Zoom is not the same as YouTube's existing 'Zoom to fill screen' option found under playback settings. When enabled, 'Zoom to fill screen' ensures videos always fill the entire screen in full-screen mode. Auto Zoom, however, activates even when 'Zoom to fill screen' is turned off in settings, and it doesn't kick in on every video. There's no clear pattern for when or why Auto Zoom appears on a video. Reddit When Auto Zoom does activate, users see a pill-shaped 'Auto Zoom' button overlayed on top of the video in landscape mode. The video slowly zooms in to fill the screen, and the only way to stop it is by tapping that pill to revert to the original view. Again, this doesn't happen on all videos. Personally, I have never encountered Auto Zoom in my YouTube app on Android, but many users have, and they've been voicing their annoyance ever since. The good news is that change is coming. Code Copy Text Settings Auto zoom is on. You can turn this off in settings. We've found code strings in the YouTube app (version 20.32.32) suggesting that Google is preparing to introduce a manual toggle to disable Auto Zoom. Based on the layout files, this new option will likely appear just below the existing 'Zoom to fill screen' setting in the Playback section of the app. There's no word yet on when this setting will roll out, but for those who find Auto Zoom disruptive, it's a promising sign that relief is on the way. Even foldable phone fans could be enticed by the Pixel 10 Pro Fold's rumored IP68 rating. That would be a first for foldables. Then again, it's understandable if you're not looking to upgrade to the Pixel 10 phones, especially if you've already got the Pixel 9 range or a recent phone from another manufacturer.
