Yankees recall right-handed reliever Scott Effross from Triple-A
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The New York Yankees recalled right-handed relief pitcher Scott Effross from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre ahead of Thursday night's game against the Kansas City Royals.
The 31-year-old Effross was 2-1 with a 9.00 ERA in nine games, including one start, at three levels in the Yankees' farm system this season.
'He's built up a little bit,' manager Aaron Boone said. 'There are a couple of guys who would be in play, too, but aren't lined up today to give us some length. He can give us some length.'
Following Wednesday's game, the Yankees optioned left-hander Brent Headrick to Triple-A. They also released lefty Brandon Leibrandt, who signed with the CTBC Brothers Baseball Club in the Chinese Professional Baseball League.
New York outfielder Aaron Judge and catcher Austin Wells were not in the starting lineup Thursday due to scheduled days off. Both players were available to pinch hit.

First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. EDT and can be watched on Apple TV+. Former Vol Christian Moore will make his Major League Baseball debut for Los Angeles. He will become the tenth former Tennessee baseball player to appear in MLB during the Tony Vitello era (2018-present), joining Garrett Crochet (2020), Chase Silseth (2022), Ben Joyce (2023), Andre Lipcius (2023), Trey Lipscomb (2024), Jordan Beck (2024), Seth Halvorsen (2024), Chase Dollander (2025) and Blade Tidwell (2025). More: How former Tony Vitello era Vols performed in MLB debuts The Angels' roster lists Moore with jersey No. 4. He was selected by the Angels in the first round (No. 8 overall) of the 2024 MLB draft. Moore played at Tennessee from 2022-24 and appeared in 186 games, totaling 61 home runs, 160 RBIs and 179 runs. Yankees vs. Red Sox prediction: Garrett Crochet can't handle bombers on Friday
Gambling content 21+. The New York Post may receive an affiliate commission if you sign up through our links. Read our editorial standards for more information. Yankees-Red Sox at Fenway Park will always have a mystique about it, even when Boston isn't playing its best. The Red Sox (34-36) are fourth in the American League East, a whopping 9.5 games behind the first-place Yankees, who are among the World Series favorites this season. The Alex Cora-led Sox did take two of three from their bitter rivals last week in a series in the Bronx, so there is some reason for positivity, as their lineup is among the best in the league. Things have been extremely rough on the starting rotation, with seemingly none of their perceived upgrades from the offseason performing up to standard in 2025. Starters Lucas Giolito and Walker Buehler have been borderline disasters up until this point, and tonight's starter, Garrett Crochet (6-4, 2.35 ERA), can only do so much. In a rematch of last week's matchup, it's Ryan Yarbrough matching up with Crochet, but there's a bit of a different wrinkle to the lineup. Garrett Crochet is the reason the Red Sox are favored on Friday. IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect Boston is sitting star outfielder Jarren Duran on Friday night, and rookie infielder Marcelo Mayer, who is coming off a two-homer performance, is also riding the pine. It's a strange move to have all of those guys sitting even against the left-pitching Yarbrough. All things being considered, I disagree with the lineup card for Friday's AL East tilt and would prefer to back the Yankees as underdogs. The Yankees are currently sitting at +123 on the moneyline, which would be the third-longest price on the Pinstripes this season. They closed +160 against the Dodgers on June 1, and +155 against the Tigers back on April 8. Learn all you need to know about MLB Betting I don't view the Red Sox in the same ballpark (pun intended) as either of those teams, and I'll happily take the underdog price on the better team. White Sox trade 1B Andrew Vaughn to brewers for RHP Aaron Civale
The Milwaukee Brewers have traded right-hander Aaron Civale and cash to the Chicago White Sox for first baseman Andrew Vaughn. The Brewers moved quickly after they announced they were removing Civale from their rotation. The pitcher said Thursday he wanted to remain a starter even if it meant leaving Milwaukee. One day later, Civale was traded. The Brewers also are sending $807,000 to the White Sox as part of the deal. "We're exploring opportunities for me to get back into a rotation, whether that's here or elsewhere," Civale said Thursday on his 30th birthday. "That type of decision is out of my hands. We're exploring the options to give me the chance to do what I do best, and that's to go out there and start." Civale is 1-2 with a 4.91 ERA this season. He has allowed seven runs over 19 innings in four starts since returning from the injured list May 22 after dealing with a strained left hamstring. The Brewers took Civale out of their rotation because they had a surplus of starters after promoting prospect Jacob Misiorowski, who threw five innings of no-hit ball while helping Milwaukee beat the St. Louis Cardinals 6-0 in his major league debut Thursday. Milwaukee's rotation also includes Freddy Peralta (5-4, 2.69 ERA), José Quintana (4-1, 2.66 ERA), Quinn Priester (4-2 3.65 ERA) and Chad Patrick (3-6, 3.25 ERA). Although Civale pitched in relief in two postseason games — one in 2022 with Cleveland and another last year in Milwaukee — all of his regular-season appearances in the major and minor leagues have come in a starting role. Civale, who is 40-37 with a 4.06 ERA in 122 career big league starts, is making $8 million this year and is eligible for free agency at the end of the season. The Brewers acquired Civale in a July trade with the Tampa Bay Rays, who got him in a 2023 trade-deadline deal with the Cleveland Guardians. Civale becomes the third former Brewer to join the White Sox in the last month. The White Sox also claimed infielder Vinny Capra off waivers from the Brewers and signed pitcher Tyler Alexander after Milwaukee designated him for assignment. The 27-year-old Vaughn, who also has made big league starts in right and left field, hit .189 with a .218 on-base percentage, five homers and 19 RBIs in 48 games with Chicago before he was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte on May 23. He will report to the Brewers' Triple-A Nashville affiliate. He has a career average of .248 with a .303 on-base percentage, 77 homers and 293 RBIs in 610 games for the White Sox, who selected him out of the University of California with the third overall pick in the 2019 draft. In other moves Friday, the Brewers recalled right-hander Grant Anderson and outfielder Drew Avans from Triple-A Nashville. Outfielder Daz Cameron was placed on the paternity list.
