In the first phase, the railway contractor has completed the installation of 12 girders, each spanning 36 metres, recently. Thereafter, the railways has commenced work on girder bracing, bridge deck surface construction, and slab casting and this phase will involve 40 blocks.
The civic body aims to finish the Belasis bridge construction by Dec 31. The BMC, along with MMRDA, has entered into an agreement with MRIDC to construct a cable-stayed bridge over the railway line near Mumbai Central Station.
Although the project's completion was initially scheduled for April 2026, additional commissioner (projects) Abhijit Bangar has directed that construction be completed by the end of Dec 2025.
Aspects such as soil testing, foundation work, and pillar construction for the bridge have been completed, and obstructing structures have been removed. As many as 40 girders are needed for the eastern approach road, of which four have already been installed. The Western Railway completed installing 12 girders by Aug 10 within the railway portion. Girder bracing, bridge deck surface construction, and slab casting are expected to be completed by Sept 14, 2025.
The BMC plans to complete the entire work on the bridge by Dec 31, 2025, Bangar said.
