2025 Big Bets Report: Bettor Can Win $250k If Cowboys Claim NFC

2025 Big Bets Report: Bettor Can Win $250k If Cowboys Claim NFC

Fox Sports5 days ago
This past week is traditionally the slowest of the year on the sports calendar.
Correspondingly, it's among the slowest of the year for sports betting.
But there are opportunities, and chances for a massive lucky break, as a FanDuel Sportsbook bettor learned during Tuesday's MLB All-Star Game on FOX.
Read on for more on that customer's wager and other notable bets during these dog days of summer.
Swingin' Schwarbs
Through six innings Tuesday night, the National League had a 6-0 lead over the American League in the All-Star Game. That was due in no small part to New York Mets slugger Pete Alonso's three-run bomb in the bottom of the sixth, giving the NL a 5-0 advantage.
The AL rallied with four runs in the seventh, three of those coming on a homer from the A's standout Brent Rooker.
But the NL still led 6-4 going into the ninth inning, at which point Alonso had a 90% chance of being named All-Star Game MVP. And yes, there was plenty of interest in the MVP betting market, with not much else to wager on Tuesday.
However, the AL scored twice in the top of the ninth to tie it at six, and the game ultimately went to a swing-off to determine the winner. The MVP door swung wide open, and Philadelphia Phillies star Kyle Schwarber walked right through it, going 3-for-3 with three home runs to give the NL the victory.
Pregame, FanDuel Sportsbook took a $25 bet on Schwarber +4000 to win the MVP. That ticket appeared dead in the water, until it suddenly wasn't after the swing-off.
The bettor pocketed a tidy $1,000 profit (total payout $1,025).
WNBA Play
The WNBA is a popular league to wager on over the summer, particularly in any game involving the Indiana Fever.
Caitlin Clark has that effect, even when she ends up not playing, as was the case for Wednesday's game against the defending champion New York Liberty.
A Caesars Sports customer put $16,000 on the Fever Over 76.5 points (-110) and barely got there. Indiana got drilled 98-77 but cleared 76.5 points on the final basket of the game via a Makayla Timpson tip-in with 22 seconds remaining.
It was a good sweat for the bettor, who cleared $14,545.45 in profit (total payout $30,545.45). And the win proved once again that, with sports betting involved, there's no such thing as a meaningless score.
Bet A Little, Win A Lot
Nothing gets American sports bettors' juices flowing like the NFL, even in the middle of summer.
One Caesars customer is hoping to nail which two teams meet, and which of those teams wins, in Super Bowl 60. The bettor put $100 on the Green Bay Packers to beat the Pittsburgh Steelers on Feb. 8 at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.
If Packers-Steelers ends up being the matchup, and Green Bay lifts the Lombardi Trophy, then the bettor wins $20,000.
Another interesting wager at Caesars: $200 on the 49ers +12500 (125/1) to have the worst regular-season record. It'd take an epic meltdown in San Francisco, hence the long-shot odds.
But if Brock Purdy & Co. get a huge comeuppance this season, then the bettor's 200 bucks turns into $25,000 profit.
I Like Big Bets And I Cannot Lie
Along with the bets noted above, there are already countless wagers on Super Bowl futures odds, along with NFL conference championship futures. BetMGM has seen a few notable plays, including one on a team that's certainly in the Super Bowl mix.
A bettor put $15,000 on the Detroit Lions +1000 to win Super Bowl 60. If the Lions win it all, then the customer profits $150,000 (total payout $151,000).
At the moment, the Lions are fifth in BetMGM's Super Bowl odds market. The defending champion Philadelphia Eagles are the +650 favorite, followed by the Baltimore Ravens and Buffalo Bills at +700, and the Kansas City Chiefs at +800.
Finally, another BetMGM customer is putting five-figure faith in the Dallas Cowboys. The bettor has $10,000 on Dallas +2500 to win the NFC.
In the unlikely event that the Cowboys have a huge year and reach the Super Bowl, the bettor will pocket $250,000.
Dare to dream.
And while you're at it, remember that these big bets often come from high-roller types who can afford the loss. Keep it reasonable. Never bet more than you can afford to lose.

Don Garber on Lionel Messi's MLS All-Star Game absence: 'We should have known earlier'

MLS commissioner Don Garber says he is 'managing' whether star Lionel Messi and Jordi Alba could receive one-game suspensions for skipping the All-Star Game on Wednesday, July 23 in Austin, Texas. MLS released an updated All-Star roster about eight hours before the game, which didn't list both Inter Miami players, who stayed in South Florida instead of traveling for the exhibition. It's unclear when Inter Miami communicated Messi and Alba wouldn't travel for the match, leaving much of the conversation on the day of the exhibition around whether MLS would suspend its biggest star despite his massive workload during the 2025 season. Inter Miami has not responded to multiple requests from USA TODAY Sports this week seeking comment on Messi's All-Star absence. 'Yeah, we should have known earlier. We should have addressed it earlier. No doubt about that,' Garber said during his midseason press conference before the All-Star Game at Q2 Stadium when asked by USA TODAY Sports why an announcement of Messi's absence didn't come earlier in MLS All-Star week. Garber believes the MLS All-Star Game is a 'real priority' for players, fans and team owners and executives, who all convened in Austin to discuss several issues like altering the MLS calendar, improving rosters and the MLS/Apple TV partnership before the match. Garber also said he was told Messi and Alba did not practice as Inter Miami held a training session on Wednesday ahead of their next match against first-place FC Cincinnati on Saturday, July 26. An announcement on a possible suspension for Messi and Alba could come as early as Thursday, July 24. 'Miami has had a schedule that is unlike any other team. Most of our teams had a 10-day break. Miami hasn't. We had Leo playing 90 minutes in almost all the games that he's played. We have to manage through that as a league. [At] the same time, we do have rules, and we have to manage through that as well,' Garber said. 'So, we would have loved to have Leo here. We'd have loved to have every player that was selected for the All-Star team here. And after this All-Star Game, we'll figure out what needs to happen this weekend.' Messi, the Argentine World Cup champion, has played every minute for Inter Miami during a nine-game stretch lasting 35 days, from the FIFA Club World Cup opener on June 14 to the club's last match on July 19. Overall, Messi has played more than 2,000 minutes in 22 of 23 matches since April 2 with his only game off on April 30. Inter Miami has also played more games than any club in MLS with 34 matches across all competitions in 2025, excluding five preseason matches played in Las Vegas, Peru, Panama, Honduras and Tampa, Florida. They have played 21 matches during the MLS regular season, while other clubs have played 23 or 24 matches. They've also played seven matches in the Concacaf Champions Cup and four matches in the Club World Cup. 'I was told this morning that neither Jordi or Messi practiced today. Jordi came off with an injury in the last game, and we'll have to manage through what Miami is going to say about that,' Garber added. Messi, 38, was the oldest player named an MLS All-Star in 2025. He joined Inter Miami in June 2023, and won MLS MVP in 2024 despite missing the 2024 All-Star Game and two months due to his Copa America ankle injury. Inter Miami is in ongoing negotiations to re-sign Messi, whose contract is set to expire at the end of the 2025 season. Along with addressing the impact bought to MLS by David Beckham, the former L.A. Galaxy star and Inter Miami co-owner, Garber said 'MLS wouldn't be today what it is today with Leo Messi, either.' 'I don't think any of us realized what impact this player would have on our league, on our global exposure, on our credibility, on creating the thrills and just unique experiences that he's done over just the last couple of weeks, scoring multiple goals in multiple games, playing 90 minutes over the last four or five games, not wanting to come out of the game,' Garber said of Messi. 'He's an incredible competitor, and he's performing at a really high level. So, we are perceived very differently globally, because Leo Messi is in our league.' CeeDee Lamb: I'm a dominant receiver and will remind you of that this year

CeeDee Lamb missed all of training camp last year while awaiting a contract extension. That didn't come until 12 days before the season opener. He did not have a 100-yard game in the Cowboys' first six games and averaged five catches for 78 yards with two touchdowns in that span. Lamb acknowledged the obvious Wednesday: His slow start came because he didn't get reps with quarterback Dak Prescott last summer. 'At first, I didn't, I didn't believe it, but obviously I was a little oblivious to the truth,' Lamb said, via Tommy Yarrish of the team website. 'I can be as strong, as fast, as explosive as I want to be, but if I can't control it to where Dak understands how explosive or how in and out my breaks I can be, I think I did that essentially just for me, and it's never just for me.' Lamb extended his streak of seasons with 100 receptions and 1,000 yards to three despite Prescott missing nine games with a torn hamstring and Lamb missing the final two games with a shoulder injury. Prescott and Lamb are fully healthy and plan to stay that way this season. The last time they did that — in 2023 — Prescott finished second in MVP voting after throwing a league-leading 36 touchdowns and Lamb had a league-leading 135 receptions for 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns. 'I feel like the league knows what happens when I'm healthy, and I have Dak for a whole season,' Lamb said. 'But if you don't, I will happily show you what it's going to be like this year. Honestly, I'm a dominant receiver. I don't like to speak highly of myself, but I can't wait to show you guys.'

'We Can't Relate' - Cam Newton Calls Out Two ESPN Analysts

'We Can't Relate' - Cam Newton Calls Out Two ESPN Analysts originally appeared on The Spun. Former MVP QB Cam Newton has had a war of words with a number of analysts through the years. But after being called out by one, he decided to call out two. Newton recently asserted that he doesn't see Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts as an elite QB and sees him as more of a game manager. ESPN's Ryan Clark took exception to that remark, explaining his perspective on Hurts being a top-10 quarterback but also taking time to compare Hurts to Newton in terms of their accomplishments as NFL players. Newton takes a lot of pride in his accomplishments, so it should be no surprise that he did not appreciate Clark's critique of him. On the latest episode of his 4th And 1 show, Newton ripped Clark for his own accomplishments as both a college and NFL player. He repeatedly stated "we cannot relate" when comparing his achievements as a Heisman winner, MVP and three-time Pro Bowler to Clark's less stellar resume as a college and NFL safety. Then, for some reason, he tossed in a shot at ESPN's Dan Orlovsky too. Take a look: Fans on social media have been loving the back-and-forth between Newton and Clark. Everyone has been arguing over Cam's NFL career, his right to have opinions and everything in-between like it's a bloodsport: "Cam put himself in a position to be catching flack and criticism for his career and now he's mad he's getting exactly that? Lol," one user wrote. "Jalen Hurts is causing crashouts w 3 degrees of separation u love to see it honestly," wrote another. "So should Tom Brady be the only one allowed to evaluate players? Cuz he said Jalen was special..." a third wrote. "Cam and RC back-n-forth is gonna be entertaining." "Nick Foles had arguably the greatest Super Bowl performance of all time with a lesser roster than Jalen hurts had. All I hear from people to this day say Foles wasn't that good. Foles out dueled the greatest player of all time when Brady had 505 passing yards." It's a fun time to debating quarterbacks on social media, that's for sure.'We Can't Relate' - Cam Newton Calls Out Two ESPN Analysts first appeared on The Spun on Jul 23, 2025 This story was originally reported by The Spun on Jul 23, 2025, where it first appeared.
