An additional superintendent of police was killed on Monday after an improvised explosive device allegedly planted by suspected Maoists went off in Sukma district, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said.
Two police officers were also injured in the explosion, PTI reported.
The incident took place on the Konta-Aerobora road near Dronda village when Konta Additional Superintendent of Police Akash Rao Girepunje, Sub Divisional Officer of Police Bhanupratap Chandrakar and Station House Officer Sonal Gwala were patrolling the area by foot, The Indian Express reported.
The officers were patrolling the area ahead of a country-wide strike called for on Tuesday by the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist), PTI quoted an unidentified official as saying. It was also conducted amid reports that a bulldozer was allegedly torched by suspected Maoists.
During the patrol, Girepunje accidentally stepped on the explosive device, which triggered the blast, The Indian Express reported.
The officer was taken to a hospital in Konta but succumbed to his injuries. Chandrakar and Gwala were being treated and said to be out of danger, according to the newspaper.
Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma told ANI that search operations were underway in the area.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said that Maoists were committing 'such cowardly acts' as they were frustrated by the continuous success of security forces against left-wing extremism.
'The Naxalites will have to face the consequences of this,' he asserted. 'The day is not far when their existence will be ended from Chhattisgarh.'

According to The Indian Express, 209 suspected Maoists, including 192 in the Bastar region, have been killed in gunfights with security personnel in the state this year.
This includes the killing of Nambala Keshav Rao, the leader of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist), in a gunfight with security forces on May 21. He was among the 27 suspected Maoists killed in Chhattisgarh's Narayanpur.
The Union government has repeatedly vowed to eradicate 'Left Wing Extremism' in the country by March 31, 2026.

Video of TMC councillor's street brawl with another woman goes viral, she blames ‘reckless driving'

After a video of a street brawl involving two women, one being a TMC councillor, went viral, Panihati municipal authorities in North 24 Parganas said the incident would be investigated, and appropriate action would be taken. Local TMC councillor Srabanti Roy, however, said she would not file a police complaint against the other woman, citing her young age, and added that the brawl happened after the young woman's Scooty hit her bike. In the viral video, the councillor is seen slapping a young woman, who retaliates by grabbing Roy's hair and hitting her. As passersby watch, the two women fight, oblivious to attempts by locals to intervene. The two women were eventually stopped from fighting by traffic police. The incident reportedly took place on Monday near Panihati Mahotsavtala Ghat. Roy is councillor of Ward No. 26 in Panihati municipality. Roy on Wednesday told mediapersons that the confrontation began when the young woman's Scooty allegedly hit her bike. Roy claimed that she dismounted to protest and warn the young woman about 'reckless driving'. 'I consider it my duty as a public representative to warn her. But the young woman responded with abuse and took my bike keys. As I protested, I was attacked,' Roy said. 'A section of the media is making a big deal out of my slapping the young woman. But in the video, you can clearly see her actions,' she said. Roy said she was not keen to file a police complaint against the woman, as 'she is young, and I don't want any repercussions for her. However, the Opposition BJP used the incident to accuse the TMC of 'goondaism' and claimed that people were 'no more afraid of the ruling party'. 'This is not a mere scuffle between two women. The lady in white salwar kameez is an elected representative. She is the TMC councillor Srabanti Roy. Good to see that people are not bowing down under TMC's fear and rather standing up against this sort of goondaism,' BJP leader Keya Ghosh wrote on X. Naxalism nears collapse as only 4 Politburo, 18 Central Committee members left

India's decades-long battle against Left-Wing Extremism is entering its final stage, with security agencies confirming a near-complete dismantling of the Communist Party of India (Maoist)'s leadership. According to Bastar IG Sundarraj Pattilingam, only four Politburo members and 18 Central Committee members remain active, most of whom are either in hiding or too old to operate effectively."The Maoist movement is in its final days. Their leadership is disjointed and demoralised. Only 300 armed cadres remain in the Dandakaranya zone who must surrender or prepare for a decisive war," Sundarraj Central Committee, typically the highest decision-making body, has not convened in years due to security pressures. In its absence, the Politburo assumes charge. According to former DGP and naxal expert RK Vij, these bodies once drove strategy through a three-pronged model: the Party, the Army, and the United Front. But that structure is now on the verge of collapse. The four remaining Politburo members include Muppala Lakshmana Rao alias Ganapathi, Thippiri Tirupathi alias Devuji, Mallojula Venugopal alias Sonu, and Misir Besra alias Sunirmal. Eighteen others continue as Central Committee members, including high-profile figures like Madari Hidma, the field commander behind multiple deadly deaths of leaders such as Basavaraju, Bhaskar, and Sudhakar have further dismantled the group's core. 'The ideological vacuum is glaring. Maoist leadership has shifted from revolutionary rhetoric to criminality,' Vij said, noting that only around 20 members remain in the Dandakaranya decline is not just ideological but territorial. Areas like Abujhmaad - once Maoist strongholds - are now seeing roads, mobile towers, and security camps. Villages like Kohkameta and Puvarti are no longer data indicate a massive crackdown between 2023 and May 2025. Over 2,25,000 Maoists were arrested, 4,41,000 surrendered, and nearly 1,19,000 were neutralized. More than 6,699 security personnel were killed, and 1,12,000 injured in over 4,499 encounters. Forces seized 2,200 AK-47 rifles, over 2,21,000 country-made weapons, and dismantled nearly 5,53,000 explosives and 184 major development efforts have also transformed the region. More than 115,000 Maoist camps have been destroyed, 6,66,677 km of roads built, and 1,16,677 villages connected to the mainstream."The fight isn't over until the ideology is rejected in every corner. But this is the closest we've come to ending the insurgency," said Watch
