Tributes following death of Dublin DJ Hugh Scully - 'A bright ball of energy'

Disc Jockey Hugh Scully has been described as a "legend" in the Dublin music scene following his untimely death. Tributes are being paid to the Dubliner, who had a varying career as a DJ, presenter and promoter.
He was one of the first dance DJ's on non-pirate radio in the 90s, and worked as a presenter on various stations including Spin 1038. More recently, he was the director of Dublin Vinyl and The Record Hub, as he promoted and played at events across the capital.
Dublin's Night Time Economy Advisor Ray Donoghue worked with the late DJ, and they were friends for almost 30 years. Paying tribute on Instagram, he wrote: 'A truly lovely man. A generous soul. A great partner in Coastal Beats, a brilliant DJ, and a friend for almost 30 years.
'Every time we met, you lifted my spirits with that laugh and smile. Hugh, you will be sorely missed. Rest well, my friend.' Former 2FM presenter Nikki Hayes said: 'Gutted to learn of the passing of Hugh Scully. I worked with himself and Shay in the early years of Spin1038 he was a true gentleman and I think we all had a crush on him at some stage. Huge loss.'
Chef and DJ Marcus O'Laire said he was 'heartbroken' to hear of Hugh's passing. Taking to social media, he wrote: 'I don't speak lightly when I say that Hugh's friendship and mentorship steered my life in ways that I'm not sure even he realised.
'He was a hero to me in my twenties who grew into a friend and I will truly never forget him, his ease of life, his humour, his incredible knowledge of music and love for good times.' Posting a photo of Hugh to Instagram, DJ Tonie Walsh wrote: 'Such sad news from Dublin that fellow DJ, Hugh Scully, has died after a bout of cancer.
'We forged a particularly strong relationship while co-producing the Red Bull Music Academy in 2000, by which time we'd also been working together at Dublin's H.A.M. in PoD, one of the most beautiful clubs to have ever graced the capital.
'So many lovely, life-affirming memories. Thank you, Hugh. You were such a suave, dapper man and a bright ball of energy. Thinking of Claire, your family and your great circle of friends you've left behind in Ireland.'

Meet Brendan, the new AI tour guide that promises ‘distinct Dublin wit'

Brendan, an AI-generated snood-wearing young Dubliner with reddish hair, can be accessed by selecting Dublin in the CityMe AI travel guide app. Brendan will offer 'a new way' for visitors to explore Dublin, says Dublin City Council (DCC), by delivering AI-powered audio content about more than 500 cultural and historical sites across the city. Its creators promise to deliver the AI content in a 'warm, locally-inspired storytelling style', which is tailored for each location on the tour. 'This is a novel project for Dublin, where technology and culture intersect to create a unique experience for visitors,' said Nollaig Fahy, smart Tourism Manager at the Dublin City Culture Company. 'With Brendan, we are not only embracing the future of tourism, but also reaffirming our commitment to sustainability, innovation and making cultural access more inclusive than ever.' The AI city guide is currently in a pilot phase for Dublin, joining many other similar digital personalities created by CityMe, like Laia for Barcelona, Charlotte for Paris, and Liam in New York. Later this summer, Brendan will expand to include Spanish as a language option, with plans in motion for an Irish-speaking guide down the line too. Brendan was developed between Dublin City Council and Smart Dublin, in partnership with AI giant OpenAI. Launched in 2016, Smart Dublin is an initiative of the four Dublin local authorities which aims to use technological solutions to improve services and quality of life in the capital. 'We are excited to partner with Smart Dublin to bring this vision to life,' said Guido Schinocca, CityMe AI founder. 'Brendan represents the future of city exploration, blending the latest in AI technology with the rich history and culture of Dublin,' he said. The CityMe app divides Dublin into six tour locations: Stoneybatter/Smithfield, The Liberties, City Centre North/O'Connell Street, Old City/Temple Bar, St Stephen's Green/Portobello and Trinity College/Docklands. When a user clicks on an area, a brief AI-generated audio introduction is given, followed by a map of all the landmarks within that zone. Each landmark gives an audio description of the site and its history, delivered with a Dublin accent, along with a picture. Funded by the Local Democracy Reporting Scheme

Irish Love Island star Megan Forte Clarke fights to keep man on tonight's show

Love Island's Irish star Megan Forte Clarke is set to fight for Tommy's attention on tonight's show. On Monday night's episode, the Dubliner coupled up with Tommy based solely on his dating profile before he entered the villa. They've bonded over their Italian heritage with Tommy stating: "My nonna's watching this. She'll be buzzing." But after Toni's bombshell entrance left Shakira vulnerable to being dumped from the Island on Monday, the other girls are feeling the pressure to keep hold of their men. In tonight's episode, Megan nervously watches from the sidelines as Shakira and Tommy are talking, with Shakira telling Tommy: "I think it's best I try to get to know everyone." Meg, Helena and Dejon tell her not to sit back, with Helena saying: "Claim your man!" Megan adds: "I think I need to lipse him", while Dejon adds: "Go do it now!" Megan decides to go for it, interrupting the chat to ask Tommy for a chat. They head to the terrace, where Megan admits: "That made me a little bit jealous." In tonight's show, viewers will watch as Shakira wastes no time in securing her place in the villa and asks Harry for a chat on the terrace and things quickly turn flirty. Shakira teases: "Haza, you little minx!" Harry replies: "It's day two come on let's keep it PG." Putting the effort in to find a new connection, Shakira then pulls Irish star Conor for a chat and he tells her: "You surprised me, you came in with massive energy, but I feel like you're not like that, you're chill and smart." Shakira admits: "I love the Irish accent, it's sexy! I've never dated an Irish guy." She also catches up with Blu telling him "I think it's good cause it gives everyone a kick up the bum…I think you've got a good vibe…you're very calming and I don't have to put on a bravado." Later that evening, the Islanders are feeling tense as they realise one of the girls will be going home tonight. Shakira tells Toni: "I've been grafting… it's rubbed people up the wrong way but who's to stop you from cracking on?" Host Maya Jama then makes her dramatic return to the Villa, telling the Islanders: "Your 24 hours are up, please meet me by the firepit." At the firepit, Maya continues: "I gave you 24 hours to find a connection with one of the other boys or risk being dumped from the Island tonight, but have you done enough?" "Boys, do you wanna play it safe and stick with your current partner or take the risk and recouple with Shakira?" She then announces "Ok guys, if you feel you have a stronger connection with Shakira than your current couple, then please stand up…" As the girls watch on nervously, will any of the boys go for it and stand up for Shakira…or will it be Shakira herself packing up her suitcase? Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on Virgin Media Play and Virgin Media Two
