Siddaramaiah, Shivakumar condole Shibu Sorens demise
Agency: Bengaluru, Aug 4 (PTI) Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday condoled the death of former CM of Jharkhand, Shibu Soren, and said he was a towering figure in India's tribal rights movement. As the founding leader of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, he dedicated his life to the creation of a separate Jharkhand and the upliftment of Adivasi communities, the chief minister said. 'Deeply saddened by the passing of Shri Shibu Soren-former Chief Minister of Jharkhand, former Union Minister, and a towering figure in India's tribal rights movement. My heartfelt condolences to Jharkhand CM @HemantSorenJMM, his family, and the people of Jharkhand in this moment of grief. His contributions to public life will be remembered with respect and gratitude," Siddaramaiah said in a post on 'X'. Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar said he was deeply saddened by the passing of seasoned political leader, JMM founder and former CM of Jharkhand, Shibu Soren. 'His life was a powerful journey of struggle, courage, and commitment to the rights of tribal communities. Generations will remember his voice and vision. My thoughts and prayers are with @HemantSorenJMM and the entire family. Om Shanti," he said in a post in 'X'. Soren breathed his last at a private hospital in New Delhi while undergoing treatment for kidney-related problems. CM Rekha Gupta forms committees for new excise, EV policies in Delhi
Agency: PTI Last Updated: New Delhi, Aug 4 (PTI) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday announced the constitution of two separate committees for the formulation of the excise policy and EV Policy 2.0. The excise policy committee will be headed by PWD Minister Parvesh Verma, while the electric vehicle policy committee will be headed by Urban Development Minister Ashish Sood, she said. In a post on X, the chief minister said, 'Keeping social security in focus, the Delhi government has constituted a high-level committee to formulate a transparent excise policy, which will be headed by Cabinet Minister Shri @p_sahibsingh. 'Additionally, a special committee has been formed under the leadership of Cabinet Minister Shri @ashishsood_bjp to develop an effective and public-oriented EV (Electric Vehicle) policy for Delhi. Our government is committed to the holistic development of Delhi and is continuously taking decisions in the public interest. #ViksitDelhi," she said. Both the excise policy and EV policy have been extended multiple times in the absence of new policies. In June this year, the government extended its excise policy for the financial year 2025–26. The current policy was extended with effect from July 1 to March 31, 2026. The extended policy, also known as the old excise policy, came into operation in September 2022 after the then Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government scrapped its reformative policy (2021–22) that ran into rough weather amid allegations of irregularities in its formulation and implementation. The Delhi government had extended the current Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy until March 31, 2026, as the draft of the new policy will undergo public consultation, which is expected to take time, Transport Minister Pankaj Singh had said last month. The current EV policy, which was first introduced in 2020 during the previous Aam Aadmi Party rule, lapsed in August 2023. The policy has been extended several times since then. CM's domicile policy announcement triggers political slugfest
Patna: In a political slugfest, the opposition Grand Alliance on Monday accused the Nitish Kumar govt of copying their schemes and implementing it as its own in Bihar for votes. The ruling JD(U) questioned the RJD over nominating outsiders like Sanjay Yadav from Haryana to the Rajya Sabha from Bihar quota. CM Nitish Kumar on Monday announced domicile policy in the appointment of teachers in the state. The teacher aspirants had been demanding domicile policy in Bihar and threatened the govt with the slogan of 'No domicile, no vote' in the assembly elections due in Bihar later this year. Student leader Dilip said this is the victory of students. "Heartfelt thanks to the CM of Bihar," he said. But RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, in a sarcastic post on X wrote: "It is a matter of immense happiness that the ideologically bankrupt NDA govt, which used to outright reject our demand for implementing the domicile policy in Bihar, is copying our announcement like our other schemes. It is clear that this copycat NDA govt has no policy and vision of its own. The govt is dancing to our tunes, demands and announcements. Rajya Sabha nomination (Sanjay Yadav) was brought from Haryana. The rights of the youth of Bihar were usurped.
