Prince Daniel Obioma, aka 3GAR, charged with negligent driving after McLaren crash in Sea Point

Nigerian rapper Prince Daniel Obioma, known by his stage name 3GAR, is facing prosecution for reckless or negligent driving, as confirmed by the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).
This follows a serious crash involving his McLaren 570S in Sea Point earlier this year. The incident occurred on March 1 on High Level Road, where the high-performance vehicle allegedly reached speeds of up to 200 km/h before crashing into a wall.
Obioma was hospitalised after the incident.
Despite CCTV footage capturing the vehicle travelling at high speed and a public outcry, no arrest has yet been made, and charges have not been formally laid.

Police spokesperson, Wesley Twigg, said: 'Kindly be advised that the case docket is still at the office of the Senior State Prosecutor and this office is awaiting the outcome of the decision.'
However, regional NPA spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila confirmed: 'We have decided to prosecute. He will be summoned, but he has not yet been served with a J175. There is no court date at this stage.'
The delay in taking action has drawn criticism from political figures, including DA MP Nicholas Gotsell, who serves on the Select Committee for Security and Justice.
'The wheels of justice are turning, whether you are an ordinary motorist or a so-called celebrity. Nobody is above the law,' said Gotsell.
'After months of pressure on SAPS to stop stalling and shift out of neutral to finalise the investigation, the NPA has now confirmed that the driver will face charges of reckless or negligent driving. Ten SAPS, EMPD officers held for theft released on bail of R1,500 each
Ten police officers who appeared before the Germiston magistrate's court on Tuesday and Wednesday on charges of theft were each granted bail of R1,500 after an unopposed bail application. They are Fortune Dhlamini, Nomfuneko Felicia Sambane, Mangalore Moloko, Nhlanhla Tumelo Matsane, Thabo Mokgaboki, Matthews Mashala, Mesho Hector Mabasa, Dlalisa Eugene Zamokuhle, Kgagare Tseego and Sidebi Tendani. 'The case stems from a complaint laid by a shop owner in Edenvale, who alleges that during a raid on his business premises on June 4, the officers seized R35,000 in cash, cigarettes worth R150,000 and boxes of Panado tablets,' National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane said. She said the officers, six from Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) and four from the SA Police Service, were part of a joint law enforcement operation aimed at monitoring compliance at shops in the area. 'According to the complainant, he was not present during the raid but was later informed by his cashier that the police had confiscated the items. The seized goods were allegedly placed in several refuse bags to be submitted as exhibits.' However, the complainant claims that upon his arrival at the police station, only one refuse bag had been registered. The cash was neither returned nor recorded in the SAP13 register, the official register used for documenting exhibits seized during criminal investigations. The matter was postponed until September 8 for further investigation.

Man accused of killing woman after Facebook date abandons bail application
A 36-year-old man accused of killing a woman after meeting her on Facebook has abandoned his bail application after appearing at the Pretoria Magistrate's Court. Helder Isidro from Eersterust is accused of killing 30-year-old Loveness Magabe and has been charged with murder and defeating the ends justice. Lumka Mahanjana, the regional spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), revealed that the pair initially connected in a section of Facebook dedicated to sex work. Their interaction progressed to Whatsapp culminating in a meeting set for July 26, 2025, at a lodge in Eersterust "On the said date, it's alleged that the accused ordered an uber for the deceased to pick her up from her place of residence in Sunnyside and drop her off at their meeting place," said Mahanjana.

Police close probe into missing R465k Sedibeng mayoral chain
Gauteng police have confirmed that their investigation into the missing Sedibeng mayoral chain, valued at R465,000, has been closed. The ceremonial chain went missing after the state of the district address on June 23 2023. The mayor, Lerato Maloka, had allegedly put it on the shelf in her office after she finished the address and it was never seen again. A case of theft was opened in November that year, but the chain is yet to be found. Police spokesperson Col Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi confirmed that no arrests had been made. 'Investigations were conducted and the docket brought before the deputy public prosecutor, who declined to prosecute, hence the matter was closed on July 25,' she said. Asked why the matter was taken to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) though there was no suspect, Nevhuhulwi said: 'Some of the cases are first investigated then brought to Senior Public Prosecutor of the Director of Public Prosecutions, whether someone is arrested or not. And this is one of those cases.' The disappearance of a ceremonial asset valued at nearly half a million rand, coupled with the lack of transparency and accountability, undermines public trust in the municipality's leadership. Chabalala has since written to Gauteng premier Panyaza Lesufi, calling for urgent intervention in what he describes as an 'unresolved matter'. In the letter, he raised concerns about transparency, accountability and the handling of public assets within the Sedibeng district municipality. 'The disappearance of a ceremonial asset valued at nearly half a million rand, coupled with the lack of transparency and accountability, undermines public trust in the municipality's leadership. 'Your intervention is critical to restoring confidence and ensuring that those responsible for any negligence or misconduct are held accountable. I trust that your office will treat this matter with the urgency and seriousness it demands. Please keep me informed of any actions taken or progress made in addressing this issue,' reads part of the letter.
