Wayne Rooney's son Kai, 15, is named on the bench for Man United's Under-18 side for first game of the season as he's bumped up THREE age groups
Kai is amongst the substitutes as United face Everton away. Highly rated 14-year-old JJ Gabriel is in the starting lineup.
15-year-old Kai has been named in the squad by one of his father's former team-mates in Darren Fletcher, who is now coaching the Under-18s.
Capable of playing as a striker or out wide, Kai impressed for United at the Super Cup NI in Northern Ireland earlier this summer.
He was subsequently included in United's Under-19 squad for the prestigious Mladen Ramljak Tournament in Croatia.
The oldest son of Wayne and Colleen Rooney, Kai was born in November 2009.
Kai signed for United's academy in 2020 and has progressed through the youth ranks at the club.
Speaking previously about his son, United legend Wayne said: 'He just plays, that's what he's always done. It's unfair to expect too much — he's only 15. But he handles the pressure of his surname very well.'
Kai made an impact as United reached the final of the Super Cup NI, where they were beaten by Southampton.
Wayne and Coleen Rooney were ever-present at the games, watching on with their younger sons Kit and Cass. The family also enjoyed a visit to Curry's Fun Park in Portrush, where they mingled with fans and staff.
Jacey Carrick, the son of former Red Devils midfielder Michael, also featured for United at the tournament.
Fletcher returned to United as a youth team coach under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and became the club's first technical director in March 2021.
He left that position when Jason Wilcox was appointed as technical director.
Fletcher worked closely with Ruben Amorim last season as he acted as a conduit to help get academy players into training groups and matchday squads.
Upon being appointed as Under-18s coach, Fletcher said: 'I am really excited to take on this new role and increase my responsibility to directly develop our young players.
'I'm looking forward to working with such a talented age-group; supporting them to reach their potential and preparing them to enjoy careers at the highest level possible.'
Kai will hope to eventually emulate his father by featuring for the United first-team.
Wayne Rooney is United's all-time record goalscorer, having found the net 253 times in 559 games for the club between 2004 and 2017.

Why Man Utd transfer for Emiliano Martinez collapsed despite Aston Villa agreement
Ruben Amorim's wish to bring World Cup winner Emiliano Martinez to Manchester United was reportedly thwarted by the club's board, as they would only sanction a loan move for the Aston Villa keeper Ruben Amorim didn't do enough to convince Manchester United to sign Emiliano Martinez over the summer, it has been claimed. Despite an encouraging performance in Sunday's defeat to Arsenal, United have something of a keeper crisis. Andre Onana has made a catalogue of errors since his arrival from Ajax two years ago, while Altay Bayindir has failed to convince in his fleeting appearances and was at fault for the Gunners' goal when he flapped at a corner. It's been clear for some time that United need a new stopper and Amorim is a big fan of Martinez, 32, who has played a key role in Aston Villa 's success under Unai Emery. Despite signing a new contract last year, the Argentine looked set to leave Villa after appearing to say an emotional goodbye to fans at the end of last season. At the time, Emery was non-committal over Martinez's future, merely saying 'we will see'. That appeared to leave the door open for a raid from United, who could have landed the World Cup winner for a fee of around £40million. However, United have reportedly seen an approach to sign Martinez on loan rejected by Villa. Amorim's plea to sign the player outright was not supported by the United board, which has instead backed the head coach with attacking signings Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko. Argentine outlet TyC Sports reports that a deal to bring Martinez to Old Trafford was 'very close'. They added that Amorim 'could not convince' the board to splash out on a keeper with Onana still on the books and would only sanction a loan move. Villa, meanwhile, had agreed to let Martinez go, but for only for the right price. While United appear to have made strides following their shambolic 2024/25 campaign, which produced the club's lowest league finish in half a century, their goalkeeping issues could undermine their progress. Following the Arsenal defeat, Amorim jumped to the defence of Bayindir, suggesting he could keep his place for Sunday's game at Fulham. Amorim said of the Gunners' goal: 'You're allowed to do a lot of things in the corner, we need to do the same. When you touch that way, the goalkeeper, he needs to use his hands to catch the ball, not push players, or he chooses to push players and let the ball past. 'It is the rules, it is allowed and we need to do the same thing. No (I'm not saying he should have acted differently), I am saying you choose to push a player or to get the ball. He chose to get the ball, but he's getting pushed, so he cannot defend it." Last season, Bayindir conceded directly from a Son Heung-min corner in a 4-3 Carabao Cup defeat at Tottenham, but Amorim rejected criticism of the Turkey international when asked if he had considered starting third-choice Tom Heaton against a team renowned for their threat from corners. Amorim added: 'He suffered a goal like this, where? Against Tottenham? It was without VAR. With VAR it was a foul. 'Then, in the next game against Arsenal, who saved the penalty? Who saved the game? You don't remember the game but I remember the game and Altay was unbelievable in that game. I considered everything to put in one or another and I chose Altay. I am happy with the three goalkeepers.'

Tottenham have been dealt a major blow in their pursuit of Eberechi Eze, with the Crystal Palace star set to snub Spurs in favour of a move to Arsenal. Elsewhere, Newcastle have had a £40million bid for Yoane Wissa rejected by Brentford. Meanwhile, Liverpool have sanctioned a British record £130million move for Alexander Isak next week, SunSport can exclusively reveal - and they are hoping to scoop up Crystal Palace's Marc Guehi for £35m too. Newcastle turned their attention to the forward when they ended their pursuit of Liverpool-bound Hugo Ekitike. But Wissa would prefer to link up with old boss Thomas Frank at Tottenham this summer, with Spurs also said to be interested in the 28-year-old. Nottingham Forest have also reignited their interest in Wissa after they saw a £25million bid turned down in January. Brentford's reluctance to part with the striker may depend on whether or not Bryan Mbeumo finally completes a move to Manchester United in the near future. By Gary Stonehouse Isak EXCLUSIVE Newcastle's Saudi owners will refuse to sell Alexander Isak - even if he wants to talk to Liverpool. The Magpies insist the £120million Sweden hitman is not for sale at any price after an approach from the Premier League champions for last season's 27-goal top scorer. sak's camp are still upset over the lack of a new deal to keep him at St James' Park which has given Liverpool hope they can lure him away. The Bundesliga club rejected a £70m bid from Newcastle on Tuesday but Liverpool are now in talks and believe a fee closer to £80m will help them land the French ace, who has already agreed a six-year contract deal. Newcastle chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan is backing boss Eddie Howe by refusing to cash in for a British record fee.
