Former North Carolina star, ABA standout Larry Miller dies at 79
May 14 - Former North Carolina and ABA great Larry Miller, a 2022 College Basketball Hall of Fame inductee, died on Sunday. He was 79.
North Carolina said Miller died in Bethlehem, Pa. He reportedly had been battling medical issues.
Miller was a two-time Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year during his three seasons (1965-68) with the Tar Heels. He still ranks ninth in school history with 1,982 career points in 91 games and had career averages of 21.8 points and 9.2 rebounds.
Miller averaged over 20 points in all three of his seasons and scored in double figures in 64 straight games, a still-standing school mark.
As a senior, Miller averaged 22.4 points and 8.1 rebounds while being a consensus first-team All-American on an epic squad that included UCLA's Lew Alcindor (later Kareem Abdul-Jabbar), Houston's Elvin Hayes, LSU's Pete Maravich and Louisville's Wes Unseld.
Miller was a fifth-round pick in the 1968 NBA draft but instead opted to play in the upstart ABA and had a seven-year pro career.
His biggest moment came when he was a member of the Carolina Cougars and set the ABA single-game scoring record of 67 points in a 139-125 victory over the Memphis Pros on March 18, 1972 at Greensboro, N.C. Miller made 25 of 40 field-goal attempts and 17 of 23 from the free-throw line. He missed his lone 3-point shot.
Miller averaged 13.6 points and 5.0 rebounds in 486 career ABA games.

"It made me angry, but not angry as in, I wanted to give up, but angry as in, I'm going to push. 2 "I'm going to put this in the most PG-13 way, I'm just going to say it's a damn shame they don't have anything else better to do. "I hope they get a life. But oh well. It just shows who they are as people." Garcia could care less about her critics, insisting: "I'm really proud of myself. "I did what I came to do, and that's good enough for me." Garcia pipped Lauren Matthew to victory in the 400m, although their rival insisted they were the "real champion" with a homemade sign. Garcia also had to endure a rival school wearing tees which read 'Keep Women's Sports Female' before and after the 4x400m relay.

Bill Belichick quits major TV job ahead of his college football debut
Bill Belichick is a busy man. The eight-time Super Bowl winner is embarking on his debut season coaching college football at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, where he'll also be working with high school campers throughout much of June. BREAKING NEWS High school football star shot dead during after-prom party... just days after graduation
A high school football star has died at age 17 after being shot in Chicago over the weekend, just days after graduating. DeAngelo Miles, a team captain at Hansberry College Prep school, was at an after-prom party with friends when the tragedy occured with police believing the incident may have been an attempted robbery gone wrong, according to TMZ. The Chicago Police Department said it received a call regarding a person shot at around 3am on Sunday, When officers arrived on the scene, witnesses said they had discovered a teenager in an ally after hearing gunshots. The victim, who was later identified as Miles, was discovered unresponsive on the ground with a gunshot to the head. More to follow.
