Jannik Sinner admits friendship with 'good friend' Jack Draper is going to be a 'little bit different' in future with duo on course for French Open clash
It is a sign of Jack Draper 's increased standing in the locker room that world No1 Jannik Sinner admits their friendship may soon have to change.
The pair have been firm pals for several years but you can only be so close to a man with whom you are competing for Grand Slam titles. Sinner clearly sees that time approaching, describing Draper as the most consistent player in the world.
'I'm good friends with him,' said Sinner after annihilating Jiri Lehecka 6-0, 6-1, 6-2. I'm very happy to have him as a friend, but now he's there (in the world's top 5), things are a little bit different.
'Of course, we are very good friends off the court, but we practice a little bit less together because we know we can face each other in the later stages of tournaments - hopefully, because I always love to play against him.'
Sinner beat an unwell Draper in straight sets in the semi-finals of last year's US Open. That was their first Grand Slam meeting and their second could come as soon as this Wednesday in the French Open quarter-finals, if both men win their fourth-round matches on Monday.
'We all saw the potential he had,' added 23-year-old Sinner of his contemporary. 'He was very unfortunate because he was injured, he went through very difficult moments, he has changed a little bit his team and now he's in a very consistent level.
Jannik Sinner dispatched Jiri Lehecka 6-0, 6-1, 6-2 to reach the fourth round at Roland Garros
'He's a huge competitor and I'm very happy for him. I'm the first person who is happy for him. He's going to make an incredible career.
'This year he is maybe the most consistent player we have on tour. He won big titles, he went far in every tournament. In every tournament, in every situation, he knows how to play, he knows how to handle it.'
Sinner was breathtaking on Court Suzanne Lenglen, reducing a very fine player in Lehecka to rubble. He remains the favourite to emerge from a loaded top half of the draw which, as well as Draper, features Alexander Zverev, who beat Flavio Cobolli 6-2, 7-6, 6-1.

Chelsea in shock transfer talks with AC Milan keeper Mike Maignan whose stats shows up Robert Sanchez
CHELSEA are in talks with AC Milan to sign goalkeeper Mike Maignan. The France star, 29, has only a year left on his contract in Italy, with both parties yet to agree on fresh terms. 1 And the Blues have been alerted by Maignan's failure to pen an extension at the San Siro, where AC Milan failed to qualify for Europe. Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca believes the £34million-rated stopper is an ideal option for his possession-based attack. The Stamford Bridge outfit already have five keepers on their books — Robert Sanchez, Filip Jorgensen, Djordje Petrovic, Mike Penders and Kepa Arrizabalaga. But Maignan's potential arrival would see him challenge for the No 1 jersey in another shake-up to the goalkeeping department. Chelsea fans have been calling for a new No 1, with both Sanchez and Jorgensen failing to prove they should be the main man between the sticks. French Guiana-born Maignan helped Lille to the French title in 2021. He won Serie A with Milan a year later. Maignan has amassed a total of 163 appearances for the Italian club and made four errors leading to goals last season, comparing to Sanchez's five. But AC Milan could cash in now amid fears he could leave the club on a free transfer in 2026. Maignan has played 30 times for France and was named in the Euro 2024 team of the tournament. Jadon Sancho shares his Chelsea highlights reel as he says goodbye to fans ahead of Man Utd return Maresca's Chelsea are set to make Liam Delap their first summer signing. The Blues will pay his £30million release clause at relegated Ipswich, who he joined last summer from Manchester City. Chelsea will also welcome youngsters Estevao Willian, Kendry Paez and Dario Essugo to the club. One player leaving the club is Jadon Sancho. Chelsea paid Manchester United £5m NOT to sign him on a permanent basis. And the winger, 25, posted on Instagram: 'Grateful for the experience. Big love to everyone at Chelsea who made me feel at home — teammates, staff and the fans. 'Wishing the club all the best moving forward. Truly grateful. Thank you Blues.'

200-year-old condom featuring erotic art goes on display in Amsterdam museum
THE HAGUE, Netherlands — The Netherlands' national museum has a new object on display that merges art with Amsterdam's infamous Red Light District: a nearly 200-year-old condom, emblazoned with erotic art. The Rijksmuseum said in a statement that the playful prophylactic, believed to be made around 1830 from a sheep's appendix, 'depicts both the playful and the serious side of sexual health.' It is part of an exhibition called 'Safe Sex?' about 19th-century sex work that opened on Tuesday. The condom, possibly a souvenir from a brothel, is decorated with an erotic image of a nun and three clergymen. The phrase 'This is my choice' is written along the sheath in French. According to the museum, this is a reference to the Pierre-Auguste Renoir painting 'The Judgment of Paris,' which depicts the Trojan prince Paris judging a beauty contest between three goddesses. The condom is on display until the end of November.

Alcaraz inspired by rival Sinner for ruthless Roland Garros win
PARIS, June 3 (Reuters) - Defending French Open champion Carlos Alcaraz drew inspiration from his main rival and world number one Jannik Sinner to race past Tommy Paul in 94 minutes and reach the Roland Garros semi-finals on Tuesday. Alcaraz gave a masterclass in attacking tennis to win the opening two sets in under an hour and overwhelmed the American 12th seed for a 6-0 6-1 6-4 win and a meeting with Italian Lorenzo Musetti. The Spanish second seed's ruthless display came a day after Sinner beat Andrey Rublev in three sets to continue his devastating form at the year's second Grand Slam. "I love to watch matches on my days off, and yeah, let's say he inspires me in some way just to give my 100% in every match," Alcaraz told reporters. "He sees how important it is to play at such a great level in the whole match, just to have more time to recover after the match. So I'm just trying to do it as well. "But for me, it's great to have tennis. I love Grand Slams for that because on my days off, I have great matches to watch and get inspired by watching them." Alcaraz beat Musetti in the Monte Carlo final and the Rome semi-final en route to the title but expected a tough test when they face off again in Paris. "It's going to be a beautiful battle, a beautiful match," Alcaraz added. "I think we're both playing great tennis. Monte Carlo final, semis in Rome, so it's going to be great for the people to watch as well. I have to be ready for that match."
