New York Liberty Hanging Tough In WNBA Power Rankings
New York Liberty Hanging Tough In WNBA Power Rankings originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Trying to make some headway toward the top of the WNBA world right now looks like job No. 1 for the New York Liberty. They're still playing great ball early in the season, but so are the Minnesota Lynx.

New York is 8-0 in play right now, putting them firmly in the No. 2 spot in the latest WNBA Power Rankings, according to ESPN. It's not that Breanna Stewart and Co. aren't putting solid outings together. They are but cannot make any headway against early MVP favorite Napheesa Collier and the Lynx.
Still, Stewart goes out all the time and gives 100% effort. In New York's lone game last week, where the Liberty beat the Washington Mystics 86-78, Stewart scored 26 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. It was her first double-double this season and, well, won't be the last.
What about other Liberty players contributing to head coach Sandy Brondello's offensive schemes? Take a look at Kennedy Burke. She scored 12 points and was a hot 80% from the floor against Washington. Burke has put herself in some early contention for the WNBA Sixth Player of the Year award given out after the season.
New York Liberty needs contributions from every player to keep on winning
The Liberty dearly want to repeat as WNBA champions. They know that they have the players and team to make it happen. As long as Stewart keeps on rocking and the New York bench can pitch in, good things will keep on happening this season.

New York has a couple of games upcoming on their schedule. The Liberty hit the road to play the Chicago Sky on Tuesday night, followed by a home game against the Indiana Fever. Liberty fans will be disappointed if Caitlin Clark is unable to play. Clark has been dealing with a concussion lately, so her availability for that game remains up in the air.
All the Liberty can do is continue to pile up victories, hoping it all leads to another ring ceremony for the team. The WNBA is in the middle of Commissioners Cup play at the moment. New York wouldn't mind getting that title, too.

Nick Wright Sounds Off on Shocking Jalen Hurts Ranking
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Since taking over as the starting quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles, Jalen Hurts has emerged as one of the best players at the position. Fresh off leading the franchise to just its second Super Bowl victory, one NFL analyst was left stunned to see where he was ranked among his peers. Every year, former NFL quarterback Chris Simms puts together a ranking of the top QBs in the league. In his latest installment, Hurts finds himself on the back end of the top ten. The reigning Super Bowl MVP was slotted in at No. 10 behind players such as Baker Mayfield, Justin Herbert, and C.J. Stroud. "He brings a skillset to [the Eagles] offense that makes them almost indefensible with all the talent they have," Simms said. Super Bowl MVP Jalen Hurts, 2024 Offensive Rookie of the Year Jayden Daniels, and Matthew Stafford headline first batch of top ten rankings of @CSimmsQB's Quarterback Countdown, now on Chris Simms Unbuttoned and Pro Football Talk More: — NBC Sports PR (@NBCSportsPR) June 9, 2025 As expected, Simms latest QB rankings sparked debates among numerous fans and analysts. Among those to chime in with their thoughts was Nick Wright. While on FS1's First Things First, he sounded off on Simms for having Hurts so low on his latest list. "Chris Simms, if you happen to run in to mamma Hurts she's going to give you a piece of her mind," Wright said. "Having Jalen Hurts behind Justin Herbert, it's really one of things where it tells me a lot about the evaluator...I just don't know how you can say he's better than Jalen Hurts." Chris Simms ranks Jalen Hurts #10 in his 2025 QB rankings. @getnickwright reacts: 'I just don't know how you can say [Justin Herbert] is better than Jalen Hurts. That one ranking seems to me to be indefensible other than, 'eh, I just know.'' — First Things First (@FTFonFS1) June 10, 2025 On paper, Herbert has the flashier numbers. However, the proper context is needed. Hurts' passing numbers took a slight dip, but Saquon Barkley had a lot to do with that. Seeing that he put together a historic season on the ground, the Eagles had a more run-heavy attack. Nonetheless, Hurts still threw for over 2,900 yards and 18 touchdowns to just five interceptions. That's not even counting his own impact on the ground, rushing for 630 yards and 14 touchdowns. Jalen Hurts #1 of the Philadelphia Eagles looks to the sideline during Super Bowl LIX against the Kansas City Chiefs at Caesars Superdome on February 9, 2025. Jalen Hurts #1 of the Philadelphia Eagles looks to the sideline during Super Bowl LIX against the Kansas City Chiefs at Caesars Superdome on February 9, passing numbers look better, throwing for 3,870 yards and 23 touchdowns. That said, when combining scores in the air and on the ground, Hurts found the end zone more. It's also worth noting that Hurts leading the Eagles to a Super Bowl should have him at least a few spots higher on Simms' list. Wright clearly disagrees with Hurts being placed so low, but the Eagles star likely isn't fazed by it. Instead, it's something he'll use as a motivation as he looks to lead Philadelphia on another title run. Between his regular season and playoff success, along with his dynamic skill set, it's hard to argue that there are nine QBs better than Hurts right now.

Judge is ripping this season and hitting .364 this month with nine hits through nine games. Judge hit .364 in May too, so he will need to step it up a little but a date with the Red Sox, Angels, Orioles, Reds, and Athletics over the next five series — I see a lot of hits coming for Judge, so I played the +1300 for .400 by the All-Star break and sprinkled +5500 for the season.' Former Quarterback Continues To Disrespect Eagles Star
Former Quarterback Continues To Disrespect Eagles Star originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Jalen Hurts has been to the Pro Bowl twice, is an All-Pro player, has been to two Super Bowls, won one, and even earned the game MVP trophy. That kind of resume on the Philadelphia Eagles would usually have people arguing about his all-time greatness. Advertisement Not Hurts, though. And especially not in the national media. Hurts has continued to be disrespected as a starting quarterback this offseason despite winning Super Bowl LIX MVP. Former starting quarterback and NBC commentator Chris Simms spoke out about his latest quarterback rankings, which have Hurts just 10th in the league. 'The Super Bowl champ, the Super Bowl MVP. Really kind of an incredible year when you really think about it," Simms said. "The ultimate leader, that's the first thing I'll say. He's tough, he's the same guy all the time. He can handle the Philadelphia criticism good or bad and seems to take it all in stride." Advertisement It is incredible that a quarterback with six times the playoff wins as someone like Justin Herbert, three times as many wins as Dak Prescott, and a record of 4-1 against the top quarterbacks is ranked so far below. It shows that people no longer care about wins at the NFL level; they care only about the numbers. And Simms' comments show that people have lost the narrative regarding how we judge quarterbacks in the modern era. That is ok, though. So long as Hurts continues to win, comments like these from Simms will only be laughed at when his enshrinement in Canton happens.
