Commuters want proper direction boards, more wardens, ticket counters at five Metro stations during Ganeshotsav
1 2 Pune: Commuters are counting on Metro administration to put in place direction boards, additional staff and wardens at key stations to handle the crowd during Ganeshotsav effectively. Metro officials said they were planning special crowd management measures at five key stations — Mandai, Kasba Peth, Swargate, PMC and Civil Court. Pune Metro's daily footfall has already crossed 2 lakh, and the rush is expected to surge further during Ganeshotsav. To manage the crowd, Maha Metro has increased train frequency to every 6 minutes starting Aug 15. Ganesh Mandals have, however, requested extended train operations till midnight for the entire 10-day festival period. Sagar Kharat, a Ganesh mandal worker from Shukrawar Peth, said, "People step out to visit pandals late in the evening during the festival. The authorities should operate Metro for more hours, at least till midnight, to avoid the rush of private vehicles on city roads." Two meetings were held with the city police to discuss the crowd management plans. More staff and wardens will be deployed at all the stations to assist commuters," a Maha Metro official said. Travellers continued to face confusion regarding entry and exit points at Metro stations. Vijay Kulkarni, a resident of Kasba Peth, said the rush at the Metro station surged over the last few days. "An entry point near the Sattoti police chowkey is still not fully functional. We expect this entry-exit point to be open for commuters all through the day to reduce chaos. We also want the authorities to put up boards to guide commuters on how they can reach landmarks like Shaniwarwada or Kasba Peth Ganapati Mandir," Kulkarni said. People travelling from Swargate Metro station expressed displeasure over the incomplete entry-exit point towards Sarasbaug and MSRTC bus stand. Vishal Jadhav, a regular traveller, said, "Swargate station has a huge entry-exit point at Jedhe Chowk. We expect an entry point towards Sarasbaug to be functional too before the festival." FOB near Sambhaji Garden nears completion A foot-over-bridge near Chhatrapati Sambhaji Garden Metro station is nearing completion and could benefit commuters during Ganeshotsav, but it's uncertain if it will be open on time due to pending inspection and certification. Meanwhile, Maha Metro is also set to finalize the inspection and certification of an underpass linking Swargate Metro station to the MSRTC bus terminus soon. Now, 100-metre FOB Connects Mumbai Metro 3 with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport Terminal 2
Mumbai: Catching a flight from Terminal 2 just got easier. A newly constructed 100-metre Foot Over Bridge (FOB) now links the CSMIA–T2 Metro Station on Line 3 directly to the airport terminal, allowing passengers to skip road traffic and walk straight from the Metro to the check-in counters. Built 23 metres above ground with strong structural steel, the bridge connects Lift Entry/Exit A1 of the Metro station at ground level directly into the terminal building. The 4.3-metre-wide and 3-metre-high structure sits above the ongoing Metro Line 7A station works, ensuring faster, safer, and seamless transfer for air travellers. "100-metre-long FOB to CSMIAirport T2 from underground Metro 3 station is opened. This facilitates much-needed last-mile connectivity to Mumbai Airport from the Metro station. Thank you MMRDA for providing the FOB on our request," said Ashwini Bhide, Managing Director, MMRCL. You Can Also Check: Mumbai AQI | Weather in Mumbai | Bank Holidays in Mumbai | Public Holidays in Mumbai | Gold Rates Today in Mumbai | Silver Rates Today in Mumbai An MMRDA spokesperson explained that the new bridge reduced the walk for air travellers from 450 metres to just 118 metres. Passengers no longer need to negotiate busy road crossings, and those carrying luggage will find the connection much easier. The spokesperson added that the construction posed significant challenges as the bridge had to be built high above the ongoing underground Metro works. On July 28, senior officials from the BMC, MMRCL, MMRDA, and Indian Railways met at the civic headquarters to discuss ways of improving last-mile connectivity. The discussions centred on integrating pedestrian infrastructure with the city's expanding underground transit system. One of the first integration projects in the pipeline is a 1-km pedestrian subway linking Acharya Atre Chowk Metro station to the Mahalaxmi Racecourse and the Coastal Road's parking facility at Haji Ali. A 160-metre arm is also planned to connect to nearby open spaces. BMC and MMRCL have already been working on the alignment since June. A senior official added that a Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be prepared in the next four months, with the vision of connecting high-density commercial hubs within a 500-m to 1-km radius. Equipped with escalators and elevators, these will be accessible for all commuters. Metro Line 3, also called the Aqua Line, is Mumbai's first fully underground Metro corridor.
