Malaysia Dominate quarter-final Berths At Asian Individual Squash Championships
KUCHING, June 18 (Bernama) -- Malaysia continued to showcase dominance in Asian squash as five national women's players advanced to the quarter-finals of the 2025 Asian Individual Championships at the Sarawak Squash Centre, Petra Jaya, today.
Top seed Rachel Arnold had little trouble dispatching Japan's Risa Sugimoto in straight games, winning 11-5, 11-7, 11-8.

The 29-year-old is set to face China's Tong Tsz Wing, who earlier defeated Singapore's Au Yeong Wai Yhann 11-4, 11-6, 11-7.
Also recording a comfortable victory was Aira Azman, who overwhelmed Japan's Boram Ryoo 11-1, 11-3, 11-4. Aira is scheduled to face fellow Malaysian Yee Xin Ying in tomorrow's last eight. Earlier, Yee beat another Japanese opponent, Erisa Sano, 11-4, 11-4, 9-11, 11-7.
Aifa Azman also secured her place by defeating Chan Sin Yuk of China 11-3, 11-5, 11-5. She will next face another Chinese player, Lee Ka Yi.
Another Malaysian player, Ainaa Amani, extended the women's team's excellence by defeating Japan's Akari Midorikawa 11-3, 11-3, 11-6. Ainaa is set to meet Ho Tze Lok in another quarter-final tie.
Meanwhile, in the men's category, Joachim Chuah advanced to the last eight after a hard-fought five-game battle against Pakistan's Noor Zaman, winning 11-3, 11-3, 3-11, 10-12, 11-2. Joachim will face India's Velavan Senthilkumar next.
His teammate, Ameeshenraj Chandaran, also earned a convincing win, defeating India's Suraj Chand 5-11, 11-3, 11-4, 11-3 to book a meeting with top Qatari seed, Abdulla Al-Tamimi.

In another top clash, champions Buriram United from Thailand open its defence of the title against Selangor FC on Wednesday (Aug 20) when the 2025/26 Group Stage kicks off this week. JDT, the dominant force in Malaysian football for more than a decade, will host a Lion City Sailors side looking for an improved performance in the Shopee Cup after going out in the Group Stage last season, but face a challenging start to its campaign in Group B against the Xisco Muñoz-coached outfit. After claiming the domestic treble for the third year in a row when the club lifted the Malaysia Super League, Malaysia FA Cup and Malaysia Cup last season, JDT will now look to translate that domestic dominance into regional success in the Shopee Cup. JDT launched the defence of its Malaysia Super League title with back-to-back wins over Selangor and Negri Sembilan earlier this month to underline the club's status as one of the teams to beat in this year's Shopee Cup while Lion City go into the opener off the back of a surprise 4-1 loss to Tampines Rovers FC in the Singapore Community Shield. Thursday's (Aug 20) other Group B fixture will see Shan United FC welcome Cambodian Premier League champions PKR Svay Rieng FC to Myanmar for its second Shopee Cup meeting in six months, following Svay Rieng's 4-2 win in Phnom Penh in last season's Group Stage. Ex-FAM exco Christopher joins global football summit board
KUALA LUMPUR: Former FA of Malaysia (FAM) executive committee (exco) member Datuk Christopher Raj has been appointed to the World Football Summit (WFS) Advisory Board, effective from July 31. In a statement, WFS managing director and co-founder Jan Alessie said Christopher's extensive experience in football media and communications, gained through his roles with FAM, the Malaysian Football League (MFL), and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), would provide a global perspective. "Christopher's network and insight will reinforce our mission to shape the future of the sport and to deliver the football we want and the football we need," Alessie said. Christopher, who has been involved with WFS since 2020, said it was an "immense privilege" to serve on the Advisory Board alongside such high-calibre individuals. He added that he looked forward to contributing his experience in Malaysian and Asian football to support WFS's vision of advancing the sport worldwide. Christopher is the second Malaysian to be appointed to the WFS Advisory Board, after AFC general secretary Datuk Seri Windsor Paul.
