Report: Colts DC Lou Anarumo at UCLA Pro Day

Report: Colts DC Lou Anarumo at UCLA Pro Day Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo was reportedly in attendance at the UCLA Pro Day recently.
Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo was in attendance at the UCLA Pro Day recently, according to Kai Dizon of the Daily Bruin.
This time of the year, it's incredibly common for teams to have representatives at the various Pro Days that are taking place, but it always feels particularly noteworthy when it's a coordinator or the head coach who are more selective in where they spend their time.
The top-ranked UCLA defender on PFF's big board is linebacker Carson Schwesinger. This, of course, is still a big need that the Colts have to fill. They need depth at linebacker and someone to start next to Zaire Franklin.
In a recent mock draft from Jordan Reid of ESPN, he had the Colts selecting Schwesinger in the second round:
"The Colts need to find an instinctive and rangy running mate next to middle linebacker Zaire Franklin," Reid wrote. "Schwesinger is exactly that, as he's a savvy run defender who can step downhill when needed. He also has a great feel in pass defense, possessing the hip mobility to operate in space."
Another name from the UCLA defense to know is defensive end Oluwafemi Oladejo. This is a position where depth is again a need after losing Dayo Odeyingbo in free agency. There is also quite a bit of production that is lost as well, with Odeyingbo having led the team in pressures last season.
Linebacker Kain Medrano and defensive tackle Jay Toia are two other UCLA draft prospects on PFF's big board.

Colts' Anthony Richardson suffers shoulder injury with quarterback battle looming

Anthony Richardson heads into his third season with a real quarterback battle, but his pursuit to win the starting job for the 2025 season will be harder after suffering an injury. Richardson is dealing with a shoulder injury in his throwing arm, and he won't be participating in the Colts' minicamp next week, per head coach Shane Steichen. Steichen added that Richardson suffered the injury last week during organized team activities. "Doctors, trainers checked it out," Steichen said, per "He's got some aggravation in his AC joint. So, we're going to sit him out this week. Obviously, he'll sit out for minicamp. We'll see when he comes back. Not going to put a timetable for training camp on it, but when he does come back, we'll ease him into throwing, and then we'll go from there. The good thing is he's not going to need a procedure right now." While Steichen noted the injury not being serious enough for surgery, a procedure wasn't ruled out down the line. Richardson has dealt with numerous injuries in his first two NFL seasons, which included a season-ending shoulder injury after four games in his rookie year. An oblique injury in 2024 kept him out two games. Richardson, the team's fourth overall pick in 2023 out of Florida, struggled in his return to the Colts last year, throwing for just 1,814 yards in 11 games with a 47.7% completion rate. Steichen made the move to bench Richardson last season as he struggled, with backup Joe Flacco replacing him under center. This year, the Colts brought in Daniel Jones, who the New York Giants cut ties with midway through the 2024 campaign due to his own struggles, to compete with Richardson in training camp. While Jones didn't pan out under his four-year extension in New York, he does have years of starting in the NFL under his belt. His addition to the quarterbacks room led many to believe Richardson's job wasn't safe. Richardson now has to battle another injury before battling Jones. "It's frustrating, but he is in good spirits," Steichen said of Richardson. "So we're working through it right now." With Richardson sidelined, Jones will be getting the lion's share of minicamp reps. Follow Fox News Digital's sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Anthony Richardson out indefinitely with a shoulder injury

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson has a shoulder injury that will sideline him indefinitely, coach Shane Steichen said Thursday. Richardson aggravated a joint in his throwing shoulder, which he had season-ending surgery on in October 2023, his rookie season. The third-year quarterback reported soreness in his right shoulder during last week's organized team activities and hasn't practiced since. He will miss next week's three-day mandatory minicamp. Steichen did not clarify if Richardson will be available for training camp later this summer. "Doctors, trainers checked it out," Steichen said Thursday. "He's got some aggravation in his AC joint. So we're gonna sit him out this week. Obviously, he'll sit out for minicamp. We'll see when he comes back. Not gonna put a timetable for training camp on it, but when he does come back, we'll ease him into throwing, and then we'll go from there. The good thing is he's not gonna need a procedure right now." Steichen said the injury occurred because of "stress over time." Asked whether this kind of injury is normal for players who previously had AC joint injuries, Steichen said he was not sure. It's the latest roadblock for the young quarterback, whose career has been marred by injuries, inconsistency and a failure to live up to expectations. Richardson has missed 17 games in two seasons because of injuries; he was sidelined 12 games in 2023 because of the initial AC joint sprain; he missed two games last season with back spasms, another pair because of an oblique/hip injury and one with a concussion. Indianapolis also benched Richardson in a pair of games for veteran Joe Flacco last season. The injury also comes as Richardson competes with Daniel Jones — who signed as a free agent in March — for the starting job in Indianapolis. Reporting by The Associated Press. Anthony Richardson's shoulder injury creates Daniel Jones Colts intrigue

It could be Daniel Jones' time to shine in Indianapolis. Anthony Richardson is dealing with a shoulder injury and will not participate in mini-camp next week after missing all three of the Colts' OTAs this week, according to head coach Shane Steichen. That gives Jones a likely edge in what was already a highly competitive quarterback battle between the third-year pro out of Florida and the former Giant.
