New musical revue celebrates Latino artists on Broadway

Yahoo09-03-2025

A new production at the Park Square Theatre will celebrate the contributions that Latino artists have made to the music of Broadway.
Teatro del Pueblo will present "Voces Latinas: A Broadway Musical Revue" at the theater from March 14–16. The performance features new and classic Broadway songs that were either written by or performed by Latino artists.
"The Latino presence has always been strong in every art form. Broadway is no exception," says Mark Valdez, Artistic Director at the Mixed Blood Theatre and director of the revue. "In a moment where we (Latinos) are increasingly vilified, this is a moment to be seen and celebrated for work and artistry... plus, who doesn't like a good show tune?"
The bilingual show will feature an all-Latino cast with a live band, Teatre del Pueblo says in an announcement.
The cast includes Geri Jerez, Isaac Quiroga, Isabella Condo-Olivera, Katia Cardenas, Pedro Bayón, and Rueben Carbajal, as well as musical direction from recent Twin Cities transplant and theater veteran Brenda Varga.
Tickets for the performances at the St. Paul theater are on sale now and cost $20–$38.

Kaia Gerber & Halina Reijn Team Up for Sarah Burton's Debut Givenchy Campaign

You're no doubt fully aware that Sarah Burton is now installed as creative director of Givenchy. The revered British designer presented her highly anticipated debut collection for the storied French fashion house during Paris Fashion Week back in March – ultimately receiving mixed feedback from members of our forums. Fast forward four months, and Burton's first campaign is here for the upcoming Fall 2025 season. The recipient of The British Fashion Council's 2011 Designer of the Year Award enlists Kaia Gerber as the face of the Fall 2025 Givenchy campaign. The all-American Cindy Crawford mini-me teams up with Dutch film director Halina Reijn for the occasion (perhaps best known for Babygirl). 'The idea behind my first campaign for Givenchy was to focus on the friendship between a film director and an actor. I wanted it to celebrate the female gaze,' said Burton. 'We were waiting for this?' asked ellarchivist. 'We all knew Burton was a bad hire for Givenchy. But now we all really really know she's a bad hire at Givenchy,' declared 90sfan. 'You don't do things like this when trying to revive a stale brand. Sarah seems to be a nice woman, but she is a really weak creative director. Just choose interesting looks and book a good photographer. No need to be so pretentious,' Avonlea stated. Tourbillions commented: 'This would have worked much better if they got Cynthia Erivo instead. She would have given it much more life, and Erivo has been wearing a lot of Givenchy already.' 'What a disaster,' voiced FashionPower while Drusilla used the word 'weak' to describe the campaign. See more of Kaia Gerber from the Givenchy Pre-Fall 2025 campaign and join the conversation, here. Sabrina Ionescu Had One Word for Vanessa Bryant

Sabrina Ionescu Had One Word for Vanessa Bryant originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Toward the end of his legendary NBA career, Kobe Bryant adopted a new role amid the Los Angeles Lakers' struggles. Utilizing a wealth of experience forged through five NBA Finals wins, Bryant became a mentor for young men and women who grew up enraptured with the superstar scorer's "Mamba Mentality." Advertisement Before Bryant died in 2020, he lent his expertise to many rising NBA stars, including Kyrie Irving, Kawhi Leonard and Jayson Tatum. His influence extended to the WNBA. Diana Taurasi's "White Mamba" nickname came from Bryant himself, and he helped Jewell Loyd and Candace Parker become WNBA stars. Though Bryant knew Sabrina Ionescu for only a year before his death, the New York Liberty star has done what she can to uphold the Lakers legend's legacy. She has maintained a close connection with his widow, Vanessa. So, on Thursday, when Vanessa Bryant posted a picture of herself on Instagram, Ionescu wasted no time reacting to it. She commented "Queen" on the post to affirm her presence and support. Ionescu leaves a comment on Vanessa Bryant's Instagram post on Ionescu met Bryant in January 2019, more than a year before she was picked first overall by the Liberty in the first round of the 2020 WNBA Draft. That summer, Ionescu worked out with Kobe and Gianna Bryant in preparation for her senior season at Oregon, where she became the first NCAA player ever to accumulate 2,000 points, 1,000 assists and 1,000 rebounds in a career. Advertisement After an ankle injury limited her to three games as a WNBA rookie, Ionescu emerged as an All-Star in 2022 and established herself as one of the league's premier shooters. She played through a painful high-grade UCL tear in her shooting hand during the 2024 WNBA Finals, but her team held off the Minnesota Lynx to win its first title in franchise history, an accomplishment that Bryant would have been proud of. Springfield Park celebrates renovation with new patio

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A local park in the north end of Springfield has welcomed a newly renovated patio area to the neighborhood. Italian Feast returns to Springfield's South End with reopening of historic social club The Jaime Ulloa Park is a stomping ground for many residents in the north end of Springfield. Some issues with the pavilion in the park made it hard for retired groups like the Domino Club to enjoy. 'The water was leaking from the roof, you couldn't play when it was raining, and it was uncomfortable,' said Jose Riveria, a Domino Club member. City Councilor Maria Perez brought the concerns to Mayor Domenic Sarno once she learned of the current conditions, and in a joint effort along with park management, it was time for a change. 'I came here every afternoon and I check how they are doing, what is needed,' said Perez. This t$225,000 project helped renovate new tables, posts, but a few benches were kept to keep the nostalgic feel of the area. It was all made official in a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The Morgan Street Domino Club has been playing in the same spot for over 30 years, it's their home, and they're glad that they were heard. Playing dominoes isn't just an activity for the Latino community here; it's essential to embracing their culture. 'This is the beautiful things that happen to us. And we appreciate it from the bottom of our hearts,' said Tony, another Domino Club member. A new mural is possibly in the works as an addition to the new pavilion, and it might even honor the local legacy of the Domino Club.
