Margaret Cho to bring ‘most blistering and brutally honest show yet' to S.F.
The San Francisco native is returning to her political comedy roots for Choligarchy, her upcoming run of shows scheduled to begin Aug. 1-2 in Provincetown, Mass.
She'll then go on to hit nearly two dozen other cities — from Burlington, Vt. and Madison, Wis. to Philadelphia and Washington D.C. — throughout the fall and winter, before concluding with a one-night performance in her hometown on May 29, at the Palace of Fine Arts.
'I'm so frustrated with the state of the union and I know the only weapon I have is humor,' Cho said in a statement. 'I want to fight fascism with everything I have. This will be my most blistering and brutally honest show yet! Let's tear down racism, homophobia and sexism with all that we have.'
Ticket presales begin at 8 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, with general sales starting at 8 a.m. Monday, July 21.
Cho broke through in the comedy scene of the early 1980s around the same time as Primetime Emmy Award winner Ellen DeGeneres. Though she recalls opening for DeGeneres at various comedy clubs before the disgraced talk show host reached widespread fame, Cho said the two never developed a friendship.
'Ellen was really weird and not nice to me for most of my career,' Cho revealed during an appearance on ' The Kelly Mantle Show ' podcast in June. 'She was like a mean girl.'
Cho's claims confirm allegations DeGeneres faced in 2022 of fostering a toxic workplace and mistreating staff on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show.' Her employees' accusations ultimately prompted the show's cancellation.
Despite her strained relationship with DeGeneres, Cho has gone on to have a successful career of her own that includes acting in TV and film. Most recently, the five-time Grammy- and Emmy-nominated star has been cast in the second season of the Disney+ original series 'Percy Jackson and the Olympians" and Gregg Araki's upcoming erotic thriller 'I Want Your Sex.'
She even competed in the third season of 'Celebrity Jeopardy!' During her debut on the TV quiz show in January, she earned $54,100 for the Los Angeles-based nonprofit Friendly House, which aids women in recovery from substance abuse.
Though the win secured her a spot in the subsequent semifinal game, Cho lost to East Bay comic W. Kamau Bell, who donated part of his $1 million winnings to Oakland schools via education nonprofit DonorsChoose.

The nightclub's parent company said in a statement that the impersonator orchestrated "an elaborate and multi-step ruse." Nightclub says impersonator carried out 'elaborate' dupe Wynn Las Vegas said in a statement to USA TODAY that the impersonator duped the club's staff. "After an elaborate and multi-step ruse by him and his advance team, a Justin Bieber impersonator was granted access to the XS stage," the statement reads. "As soon as the error was recognized, he was removed from the resort and denied future entry." In Gryffin's video, a man with a buzzed haircut, tattoos and sunglasses is seen performing Bieber's hit song, "Sorry." "Bieber in the house, y'all," Gryffin says into a microphone. Following the performance, the video shows Gryffin saying, "That was insane," before someone puts their arm around him and breaks the news that the singer on stage was not the real Bieber. "No way," Gryffin says, to which the individual responds, "Swear on my life." Justin Bieber impersonator denies trying to dupe club In a series of social media posts, a French Justin Bieber impersonator named Dylan Desclos confirmed that he was the onstage performer. Desclos's manager, Julien Colas, said in a written statement to USA TODAY that he went to the club as an impersonator and someone asked if he would like to perform. "We did many performance as impersonator," Colas said. "What have we to won by saying we are the real one? That's not our way to work. Cause, yes, it's a job. We don't want to hurt anyone." How Wednesday Season 2 Initially Thought About Bringing Back Gwendoline Christie After Jenna Ortega Admitted The Show Made A ‘Terrible Mistake'

While she already blew me away with her work in Game of Thrones, Christie crushes her role as Principal Weems. The character exudes a classy charm and sense of complexity that conveys Christie's wide range of skills as an actor. Despite Weems' death, the character is now set to return for Season 2, and Jenna Ortega just recalled one way she and the writers initially thought about reviving the character. Jenna Ortega has never shied away from discussing the creative choices made for Wednesday. In fact, she made headlines when she got real about some aspects of the show making 'no sense' to her. (Ortega had long wanted to up the horror elements and dial down the romance.) Just recently, the Emmy nominee admitted during an interview with AIChark (which was shared to TikTok) that the show made a 'terrible mistake' by killing off Principal Weems. With that, Ortega revealed she formulated an idea to bring Weems back, and it involved shapeshifting: We had had discussions at the end of Season 1 about – we already knew that we were gonna kill her. So we were saying, 'Oh man, well, this has been a terrible mistake on our part. How are we gonna undo this? Is there a way we could bring her back?' I would say, 'Well, she's a shapeshifter. Maybe she isn't dead. Maybe all the shapeshifters, their natural form is [Weems]. Maybe if they all reverted back to their initial state…' That's what I wanted. We were throwing out all these ideas, and then the writers came up with her being my spirit guide. I feel like the writers made the right call in going with the spirit guide character plot, which was just recently revealed. I think having all shapeshifters appear as Weems in 'their natural form' would be too complicated. Having Christie's character return as a spirit guide for Wednesday Addams is perfect since the Nevermore Head of Staff tried to help the show's titular character during her time at the Academy. Weems even tried tried to help the teen in the end, the notion of having her return in this form certainly tracks. If Wednesday Season 2 -- which is part of 2025 Netflix's 2025 releases -- were like the more traditional Addams Family movies and TV shows Principal Weems might not be reappearing. Those past productions featured death in relatively definitive ways, so Weems' poisoning would've been the end. The concepts that have been explored in the Jenna Ortega-led spinoff series, however, allow for Weems to come back into the fold. And Ortega is thrilled about that: We just were so lucky to be playing in a supernatural world where we could bend the rules a little bit and find a way to bring her back. Because she brought so much to the show and established so much of what she — [she] just made that atmosphere feel real. It's one of my favorite on-screen pairings I've ever had, so to be able to elaborate on that and go deeper and further was a great pleasure. I jumped for joy seeing Wednesday's Season 2, Part 2 trailer, which revealed Weems' return. She and Addams have an interesting dynamic and, while they don't always see eye to eye, it works. There's also a sense of mutual respect between the two. With the supernatural series being split into two parts, this next set of episodes may place great emphasis on the relationship between Ortega's character and her new spirit guide. As a fan, I'm so glad Weems is not only returning but doing so in a fun-looking capacity. Considering how happy Gwendoline Christie was when Wednesday was renewed, it wouldn't surprise me at all if she's thrilled she gets to continue playing her imposing character. It was Christie's stunning turn (complete with Alfred Hitchcock influences) that made her such a standout in the first season.
