Putin ‘disrespected' Trump by swerving peace talks, Zelensky rages as Don warns ‘nothing will happen' until he sees Vlad
VLADIMIR Putin "disrespected" Donald Trump by swerving peace talks at the last minute, a fuming Volodymyr Zelensky said today.
It comes after Trump warned 'nothing is going to happen' on the Ukraine peace deal until he meets Vladimir Putin in person.

Meanwhile, Zelensky slammed Russian "theatrics" for sending "stand-in props" to Turkey to take part in the already delayed peace talks.
'I believe the US and Turkey, they feel Russia's disrespect, in my opinion,' Zelensky said in a press conference in Ankara.
'No meeting time, no agenda, no high-level delegation, that is personal disrespect…to Erdogan and Trump. Trump sent a big team of people.'
Putin refused to attend today's negotiations alongside his usual Kremlin enforcers and instead sent his Salisbury poisoning spy chief.
Trump is also not set to attend today's potential peace talks in any capacity.
But he may still turn up later this week should he see progress being made at the negotiating table.
Speaking from Qatar, Trump told reporters he hopes Russia and Ukraine can 'do something' as the gruelling war 'has to stop' now.
He added: "I don't believe anything's going to happen, whether you like it or not, until he and I get together."
Zelensky landed in Ankara this morning as he announced he may take part in the negotiations after he holds a meeting with Turkey's president.
Neither side has spoken as of yet, with the meeting being delayed until later today.
The Ukrainian leader added that he had selected the 'highest level of delegation' for peace talks in Turkey.
However, they will not all be sent to Istanbul for peace talks after Russia sent low-level delegates to attend the peace talks.
Zelensky said: 'I decided to send a delegation to Istanbul, but not all of them.
"Russia should demonstrate at least something, at least the level of delegation.
"If we don't see this demonstration, it means that they're not ready to talk about putting an end to the war and make decisions, it means they lack political will."
Ukraine's defence minister will lead the team at the Russia talks, he added, before accusing Putin of showing a lack of seriousness.
Putin had been challenged to turn up to the talks by Kyiv.
He declined and has refused to take part in any talks - further angering Ukraine.
Instead, GRU military intelligence chief Igor Kostyukov is set to help with the talks for the Kremlin.
Kostyukov has a twisted past after he was sanctioned by Britain and the EU over his team's bid to kill former spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia in Wiltshire as part of the infamous Salisbury attack.
The nerve agent strike was carried out when Kostyukov was deputy head of the GRU.
He was promoted by Putin to a top spy chief shortly afterwards.
Putin's negotiators will also see Vladimir Medinsky, a West-hating aide who denies Ukraine even exists, take part.
The lack of any pivotal Kremlin official from Putin's top team has already caused an issue for those demanding peace in Ukraine.
UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy blasted Putin as he said the despot has only sent 'low-level' officials.

National Guard to deploy in Los Angeles amid immigration raids unrest
US President Donald Trump is deploying 2,000 National Guardsman in Los Angeles to deal with unrest over raids on undocumented migrants. His border czar, Tom Homan, told Fox News on Saturday: "We are making Los Angeles safer."The Californian city saw a second day of unrest on Saturday as residents of a predominantly Latino district clashed with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) federal agents. The ICE used tear gas and batons to disperse crowds in the Paramount many as 118 arrests were made in LA this week as a result of ICE operations, including 44 on Friday. California Governor Gavin Newsom has condemned the raids as "cruel". A White House press release said: "In recent days, violent mobs have attacked ICE Officers and Federal Law Enforcement Agents carrying out basic deportation operations in Los Angeles, California. "These operations are essential to halting and reversing the invasion of illegal criminals into the United States. In the wake of this violence, California's feckless Democrat leaders have completely abdicated their responsibility to protect their citizens. That is why President Trump has signed a Presidential Memorandum deploying 2,000 National Guardsmen to address the lawlessness that has been allowed to fester."Speaking in Los Angeles, where he had travelled to personally supervise the continuing ICE operations, Homan said: "We're bringing in more resources as we speak. We gonna bring the National Guard in tonight. We gonna continue doing our job."He warned that there would be "zero tolerance" of any violence or damage to private a post on X, FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino also issued a warning to protesters: "You bring chaos, and we'll bring handcuffs. Law and order will prevail."He said that "multiple arrests" had been made for "obstructing operations".In a statement on Friday, Governor Newsom said: "Continued chaotic federal sweeps, across California, to meet an arbitrary arrest quota are as reckless as they are cruel."Donald Trump's chaos is eroding trust, tearing families apart, and undermining the workers and industries that power America's economy."Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass earlier accused the ICE of "sowing terror" in America's second largest FBI and Homeland Security chiefs said the mayor's comments were endangering federal Salas, who leads the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights, told a recent rally: "Our community is under attack and is being terrorised. These are workers. These are fathers. These are mothers. And this has to stop."The US president has the authority to deploy the National Guard for certain purposes which include "suppressing rebellion". But responding on Saturday, California's governor said the federal government's move to "take over the California National Guard and deploy 2,000 soldiers" was "purposefully inflammatory" and would "only escalate tensions". "LA authorities are able to access law enforcement assistance at a moment's notice," Newsom added. Trump hit out at the governor on his Truth Social platform, saying that if he and Bass could not do their jobs, "then the Federal Government will step in and solve the problem, RIOTS & LOOTERS, the way it should be solved!!!"

Ukraine war briefing: Putin yet to retaliate in full force over Operation Spiderweb, officials say
Vladimir Putin's threatened retaliation against Ukraine over its drone attack on Russia's bomber fleet has not happened yet in earnest, despite heavy bombardment of Kharkiv and Kyiv the past two days, and is likely to be a significant, multi-pronged strike soon, US officials have told Reuters. One senior western diplomat anticipated a 'huge, vicious and unrelenting' assault by Moscow. Michael Kofman, a Russia expert at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, said Russia might seek to punish Ukraine's SBU domestic security agency which orchestrated last weekend's assault, possibly employing intermediate-range ballistic missiles, as well as targeting defence manufacturing sites. Still, Kofman suggested Russia's options for retaliation may be limited, as it was already throwing a lot of its military might at Ukraine. 'In general, Russia's ability to substantially escalate strikes from what they are already doing – and attempting to do over the past month – is quite constrained.' The Ukrainian drone attack – called Operation Spiderweb – likely damaged about 10% of Russia's strategic bomber fleet and hit some of the aircraft as they were being prepared for strikes on Ukraine, according to a German military assessment. Maj Gen Christian Freuding told a YouTube podcast that 'more than a dozen aircraft were damaged, TU-95 and TU-22 strategic bombers as well as A-50 surveillance planes'. He said 'only a handful' of the A-50s exist and can now no longer be used for spare parts. Despite the losses, Freuding did not see any immediate reduction of Russian strikes against Ukraine, noting that Moscow retained 90% of its strategic bombers, which can launch ballistic and cruise missiles in addition to dropping bombs. 'But there is, of course, an indirect effect as the remaining planes will need to fly more sorties, meaning they will be worn out faster, and, most importantly, there is a huge psychological impact.' Freuding said Russia had felt safe in its vast territory, which also explained why there was little protection for the aircraft. 'After this successful operation, this no longer holds true. Russia will need to ramp up the security measures.' Russia and Ukraine have accused each other of thwarting a large-scale prisoner exchange that was agreed in the last week, with Kyiv denying Russian allegations that it had indefinitely the postponed prisoner swaps while accusing Moscow of 'playing dirty games'. At talks in Istanbul on Monday, Kyiv and Moscow agreed to release more than 1,000 people on each side, while Russia said it would also hand back the remains of 6,000 killed Ukrainian soldiers. Russia's defence ministry said in a statement: 'The Russian side has provided the Ukrainian side with a list of 640 names, but the Ukrainian side is currently refraining from setting a date for the return of these individuals and the transfer of the corresponding number of Russian prisoners of war.' Ukraine's Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War said no date had been agreed for the return of bodies and that a list of names Russia said would be released did not match the terms of the agreement. Andriy Kovalenko, an official with Ukraine's national security and defence council, said 'statements by the Russian side do not correspond to reality'.

Los Angeles anti-ICE protests: Trump threat against ‘riots and looters' after immigration raids spark fury on LA streets
President Donald Trump has threatened to use the federal government to crush anti-ICE protests in Los Angeles sparked by a weekend immigration raid in the city. The president said the 'RIOTS & LOOTERS' would be dealt with 'the way it should be solved!!!' 'If Governor Gavin Newscum, of California, and Mayor Karen Bass, of Los Angeles, can't do their jobs, which everyone knows they can't, then the Federal Government will step in and solve the problem, RIOTS & LOOTERS, the way it should be solved!!!' Trump wrote. When discussing protesters in the past, the president once quipped that 'when the looting starts, the shooting starts.' Earlier on Friday, Trump's border czar, Tom Homan, said he plans to send the National Guard to Los Angeles to combat protests against ICE that began this weekend following immigration raids in the city. 'We are making Los Angeles safer. Mayor Bass should be thanking us. She says they are going to mobilize—guess what? We are already mobilizing. We are going to bring the National Guard in tonight,' Homan told Fox News. California Governor Gavin Newsom responded, calling Homan's threat 'purposefully inflammatory.' 'That move is purposefully inflammatory and will only escalate tensions,' he said in a statement. 'LA authorities are able to access law enforcement assistance at a moment's notice.'
