Google CEO Sundar Pichai studied from this IIT, did engineering in this branch, his net worth is…
The Joint Seat Authority (JoSAA) Counselling 2025 has started for students following the declaration of the JEE Advanced 2025 result. Through this counselling, students will get an opportunity to gain admission to prestigious institutions such as IITs and NITs as per their rank. However, it is a fact that almost all students want to get admission into top IITs, and as always, their favourite branch is Computer Science. Google CEO Sundar Pichai is a role model and a source of inspiration for most aspirants. They want to become like him. Pichai also started his journey at an IIT. On this note, let's take a look at the educational qualifications of the Google CEO and the branch he selected that skyrocketed his career. Who is Sundar Pichai?
Sundar Pichai was born on June 10 1972, in Tamil Nadu's Madurai. He was born into a typical Tamil family. His father, Raghunath Pichai, was an electrical engineer in a British company. Raghunath was also the owner of a manufacturing plant. Pichai's mother worked as a stenographer.
Sundar was a bright student from his childhood. He studied at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Chennai until Class 10. He completed his Class 12 board exams at Vana Vani School in Chennai. Did Sundar Pichai Get The Desired Branch?
To get a job in tech companies like Google, most of the students choose B.Tech i.e. engineering from the Computer Science branch. But, interestingly, Pichai doesn't have a computer science degree. According to several media reports, after passing 12th Sundar was to do B.Tech in the computer science branch but didn't get it due to his ranking in JEE IIT. His JEE IIT ranking was between 1100 to 1200 due to which he got the Metallurgical branch. But he studied hard and received the BC Roy Silver Medal in 1993. From which IIT did Sundar Pichai study?
Sundar Pichai, a Chennai native, pursued engineering at IIT Kharagpur after achieving a high JEE rank, despite initially aiming for IIT Madras's computer science program. Following his undergraduate studies, he earned an MS in Material Science from Stanford University and an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Android 16 will warn if you are connected to a fake ‘Stingray' cell tower

From banking details to pictures of friends and family, smartphones are a treasure trove of personal information. And while you can take all the precautionary measures to keep sensitive data safe, some attacks are very hard to protect against. One of these is the infamous stingray attack, which intercepts all your phone calls and SMSes. Often used by surveillance agencies around the world, the attack works by tricking your smartphone into connecting to a fake cell tower. However, a new feature coming with Android 16 might be able to warn you if you are being snooped on. With Android 16, Google is reintroducing the 'mobile network security' settings page as part of the Safety Center, which can be accessed by heading over to the Security & privacy tab in the Settings app. Here, you will see two subsections – 'Notifications', which features a toggle named 'Network notifications', enabling which will allow Android to warn if your phone connects to any unencrypted network or when it asks about your phone's unique identifiers. However, this toggle is disabled by default. When enabled, Android will display a message in the notification panel as well as the Safety Center whenever your phone switches from an encrypted to an unencrypted network or vice versa. The second subsection – called '2G network protection' is a toggle that lets you disable or enable the phone's 2G connectivity. It is also disabled by default. One thing to note here is that the feature might only be available with devices that come with Android 16 out of the box, as these devices will support Android's Radio HAL 3.0 drivers. However, the 'Mobile network security' page will only be visible when your device supports both of these features, which is why it is missing from any of the current Pixel devices running Android 16. But a Google policy that allows smartphone manufacturers to decide the hardware requirements at launch might mean that we won't be seeing the feature on any of the current devices. Also, this isn't the first time Google has tried to block Stingray attacks. On Android 15, the operating system will warn users when a network asks for a device's unique identifiers, like the IMEI number. A few years ago, when the tech giant rolled out Android 12, it added an option that allowed users to disable 2G connectivity.

Trump has struck trade deals with 2 countries ahead of July 9; what about the others? What is India's position?

As the July 9 deadline set by the Donald Trump administration approaches soon, officials have struggled to strike trade deals with a lot of countries. In almost three months, the US has been able to sign trade agreements with just two countries, with Trump and his officials hinting that a long pipeline is in place. Countries failing to strike deals with the US within the July 9 deadline will face tariffs as was announced by Trump in April. The President however on Friday indicated that the deadline could be moved forward. 'We can do whatever we want. We could extend it. We could make it shorter. I'd like to make it shorter. I'd like to just send letters out to everybody: Congratulations, you're paying 25 per cent,' he told reporters at the White House. Here's what you need to know about Donald Trump's trade deals. As of now, only two countries — China and UK — have signed trade deals with the US. 'The [Trump] administration and China agreed to an additional understanding for a framework to implement the Geneva agreement,' a White House official said on Thursday. That followed the talks in Geneva in May, where the US and China had agreed to reduce mutual tariffs. US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick told Bloomberg TV on Thursday that 'they [China] are going to deliver rare earths to us', and once Beijing does that 'we'll take down our countermeasures'. Trump signed an agreement on June 16, formally lowering some tariffs on imports from Britain as the countries continue working toward a formal trade deal. The deal, announced by Trump and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Canada, reaffirmed quotas and tariff rates on British automobiles and eliminated tariffs on the U.K. aerospace sector, but the issue of steel and aluminum remains unresolved. While UK and China are the only countries that have signed trade deals with the US, Trump on Friday called off discussions with China, calling it a 'difficult country'. Trump abruptly ended the negotiations over its tax targeting US technology firms, saying that it was a "blatant attack" and that he would set a new tariff rate on Canadian goods within the next week. Majority of the trade partners of US, including South Korea, Vietnam and EU countries, are struggling to sign deals with America. Countries like France have rejected the notion of striking a deal that favours the US, and have proposed removal of tariffs altogether. Some EU member states have also rejected the idea of a tit-for-tat tarif, and are preferring a quick deal to a perfect one. India and Japan are considered to be the next countries that could strike trade deals with the US. 'But some of the bigger countries, India, I think we're going to reach a deal where we have the right to go in and trade. Right now, it's restricted. You can't walk in there. You can't even think about it,' Trump told reporters on Friday.

Maximilian Raynor Wins UK Jury for R

British designer Maximilian Raynor has emerged as the UK Jury winner for the R|Elan™ Circular Design Challenge (CDC) 2025, India's premier sustainability award for fashion innovation. The win was announced at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, London, with support from the British Council. The CDC, initiated by Reliance Industries Limited's R|Elan, in collaboration with the United Nations in India and Lakmé Fashion Week, empowers young fashion designers to champion circularity and sustainable design. The UK edition, held in partnership with the British Council, spotlighted Raynor's label for its circular approach—blending deadstock luxury fabrics, local British wool, and vegan apple leather with waste-reducing techniques. Notably, 50% of the brand's revenue comes from rentals and hires. Mr. Rakesh Bali, Senior VP & Head of Marketing at Reliance Industries Ltd., congratulated Raynor, stating, 'CDC reflects our vision to foster a new generation of conscious designers. The UK winner exemplifies innovation with responsibility.' Raynor was selected by a jury comprising Akanksha Kamath, Chelsea Franklin, Muchaneta Ten Napel, and Serva Davis, based on criteria like material innovation, lifecycle impact, energy efficiency, and alignment with the UN SDGs. Raynor will now compete against winners from EU, India, and APAC Jury Meets at the grand finale during Lakmé Fashion Week x FDCI in October 2025. The global winner will receive GBP 14,000 seed funding, the CDC trophy, and a six-month mentorship with Estethica's Orsola De Castro, along with a standalone showcase at Lakmé Fashion Week in March 2026.
