One bite in, and you'll be questioning everything you know about market economics.

Somewhere between the toothpaste aisle and the discount mop buckets at Gomla Market lives a foot-long fried shrimp sandwich that's causing a quiet, breaded revolution. For just EGP 150, you get a seafood behemoth the length of a regulation ruler and the structural integrity of a Jenga tower on a trampoline. It arrives wrapped in enough foil to reflect satellite signals, stuffed with what we can only describe as the entire cast of Finding Nemo—lightly seasoned, heavily fried, unapologetically stacked. This sandwich is not here to play. It's here to crunch. It's here to drip mysterious pink sauce onto your shirt. It's here to challenge your sense of proportion and your cardiovascular system. Is it lunch? Is it a dare? Is it a lifestyle? Yes.
One bite in, and you'll be questioning everything you know about market economics, shrimp-to-bread ratios, and why you ever paid more than this for anything. In conclusion: 10/10, would shrimp again.

Oil Prices Drop as Kremlin Confirms Upcoming Putin-Trump Summit

Taarek Refaat Oil prices slipped at the close of trading on Thursday after earlier gains were erased following a Kremlin announcement confirming an imminent meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump, fueling speculation that a diplomatic breakthrough in the Ukraine war may be on the horizon. The news sent markets into a recalibration, with traders anticipating the possibility of de-escalation in geopolitical tensions, potentially easing concerns over supply disruption. Brent crude futures fell by 46 cents or 0.69%, settling at $66.43 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) dropped 47 cents or 0.73% to $63.88 per barrel, both benchmarks extending losses from Wednesday, when they each fell about 1% to eight-week lows. Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov confirmed Thursday that the two leaders will meet "in the coming days," marking the first official summit between the U.S. and Russian presidents since 2021. A U.S. official had hinted earlier in the week that a meeting could take place as soon as next week. While the meeting could potentially signal progress in ending the Ukraine conflict, the U.S. continues to increase pressure on Moscow through economic means. On Wednesday, the Biden administration imposed 25% tariffs on imports from India, citing New Delhi's continued imports of Russian oil, a move widely interpreted as a signal to energy buyers that closer ties with Russia may carry financial consequences. President Trump also threatened to levy additional tariffs on China, which has surpassed India as the largest buyer of Russian crude. Despite these measures, the prospect of a Putin-Trump summit appears to have outweighed fears of near-term sanctions, dragging down oil prices further. read more CBE: Deposits in Local Currency Hit EGP 5.25 Trillion Morocco Plans to Spend $1 Billion to Mitigate Drought Effect Gov't Approves Final Version of State Ownership Policy Document Egypt's Economy Expected to Grow 5% by the end of 2022/23- Minister Qatar Agrees to Supply Germany with LNG for 15 Years Business Oil Prices Descend amid Anticipation of Additional US Strategic Petroleum Reserves Business Suez Canal Records $704 Million, Historically Highest Monthly Revenue Business Egypt's Stock Exchange Earns EGP 4.9 Billion on Tuesday Business Wheat delivery season commences on April 15 News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results

Bank of England Cuts Interest Rates to Lowest Level in over Two Years

Taarek Refaat The Bank of England (BoE) on Thursday cut its benchmark interest rate by 25 basis points, bringing it down to 4.00%, the lowest level since early 2023. The decision comes amid growing concerns over a sluggish British economy, persistently elevated inflation, and rising global trade tensions. The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) voted 5 to 4 in favor of the cut, signaling a divided outlook among policymakers as they attempt to balance efforts to rein in inflation with the urgent need to support domestic growth. 'While the direct impact of U.S. tariffs has been milder than initially feared, the broader uncertainty surrounding trade policy continues to weigh heavily on sentiment,' the BoE said in its policy statement. This marks the fifth rate cut since the BoE began its easing cycle in August 2024, reflecting a strategic shift from combating inflation to stimulating demand in the face of weaker-than-expected economic performance. While the central bank has long targeted a 2.0% inflation rate, the latest official data showed inflation climbing unexpectedly to 3.6% in June, an 18-month high, complicating the BoE's decision-making process. Despite the inflation uptick, policymakers expressed confidence that the current trajectory of inflation will ease over time, justifying a continued accommodative stance, albeit with greater caution. 'Interest rates remain on a downward path, but any future reductions must proceed gradually and prudently,' said BoE Governor Andrew Bailey during a post-decision press briefing. The BoE's move follows months of economic turbulence triggered in part by U.S. President Donald Trump's global tariff campaign, which has contributed to mounting uncertainty in global markets. Although a May trade agreement between London and Washington rolled back more than 10% in tariffs on U.K.-manufactured goods, particularly automobiles, business investment remains subdued, and consumer confidence is fragile. The Bank said the improved trade terms had softened immediate downside risks but warned that geopolitical unpredictability and domestic tax burdens continue to cast a shadow on long-term growth prospects. Despite the headwinds, the Bank of England revised its GDP growth forecast for 2025 upward to 1.25%, from a previous estimate of 1.0%, suggesting a slightly improved outlook but still well below pre-pandemic norms. read more CBE: Deposits in Local Currency Hit EGP 5.25 Trillion Morocco Plans to Spend $1 Billion to Mitigate Drought Effect Gov't Approves Final Version of State Ownership Policy Document Egypt's Economy Expected to Grow 5% by the end of 2022/23- Minister Qatar Agrees to Supply Germany with LNG for 15 Years Business Oil Prices Descend amid Anticipation of Additional US Strategic Petroleum Reserves Business Suez Canal Records $704 Million, Historically Highest Monthly Revenue Business Egypt's Stock Exchange Earns EGP 4.9 Billion on Tuesday Business Wheat delivery season commences on April 15 News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results

Gold Continues to Rise Locally and Globally Amid Escalating Trade Tensions and Growing Rate-Cut Bets

Waleed Farouk Gold prices recorded notable gains in both local and international markets on Thursday, driven by escalating trade tensions and renewed fears of a global economic slowdown. The rally is supported by a combination of interlinked factors, most notably a weakening U.S. dollar and mounting expectations that the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates at its upcoming meeting. The price of 21-karat gold rose by EGP 15 to reach EGP 4,600 per gram, up from EGP 4,585 yesterday. Meanwhile, spot gold gained $7 globally, reaching $3,378 per ounce. Other gold karats were priced as follows: 24-karat: EGP 5,257 18-karat: EGP 3,943 14-karat: EGP 3,067 Gold pound: EGP 36,800 Wednesday's trading session was relatively stable, with 21-karat gold opening and closing at EGP 4,585. Globally, gold declined slightly from $3,379 to $3,371 per ounce. U.S. Tariffs Fuel Market Unrest and Boost Gold's Appeal Gold continues to find support globally amid renewed demand for safe-haven assets, particularly after U.S. President Donald Trump's punitive tariffs officially came into effect. These sweeping tariffs target dozens of countries with increases ranging between 10% and 50%, including a 100% tariff on imported semiconductors unless manufactured domestically. This aggressive trade stance sparked global concerns over a new wave of economic protectionism, pressuring the U.S. dollar to its lowest level in a week and a half at 98.00 points, and enhancing gold's attractiveness for non-dollar investors. Rate-Cut Bets Push Gold Higher According to the CME FedWatch Tool, markets are now pricing in a 93% probability that the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates by 25 basis points at its September meeting—up sharply from just 48% a week ago. This shift is backed by remarks from several key Fed officials on Wednesday, including Neel Kashkari (President of the Minneapolis Fed), Mary Daly (San Francisco Fed), and Lisa Cook (Fed Governor), all of whom expressed support for monetary easing in light of weakening labor market data and economic indicators. In an interview with CNBC, Kashkari stated: 'The economy is slowing, and it may be appropriate to begin adjusting interest rates soon… Two rate cuts this year remain a viable option.' China Expands Gold Reserves for Ninth Consecutive Month In related news, the People's Bank of China confirmed it continued building its gold reserves in July, marking the ninth straight month of accumulation. Official data showed holdings rose to 73.96 million ounces, valued at $243.99 billion, up from 73.90 million ounces and $242.93 billion in June. According to Bloomberg, China has maintained a long-term strategy of diversifying away from the U.S. dollar. Since November 2022, the country has added over 180 tonnes of gold to its official reserves—a move seen as a deliberate pivot toward hard assets amid intensifying geopolitical tensions. Outlook: Could Gold Reach a New All-Time High? Analysts at NAB bank expect the bullish momentum to persist through 2026, projecting an average gold price of $3,220 per ounce in 2025 and $3,475 in 2026. These expectations are supported by ongoing economic slowdown concerns and increasing global shifts toward monetary easing. read more CBE: Deposits in Local Currency Hit EGP 5.25 Trillion Morocco Plans to Spend $1 Billion to Mitigate Drought Effect Gov't Approves Final Version of State Ownership Policy Document Egypt's Economy Expected to Grow 5% by the end of 2022/23- Minister Qatar Agrees to Supply Germany with LNG for 15 Years Business Oil Prices Descend amid Anticipation of Additional US Strategic Petroleum Reserves Business Suez Canal Records $704 Million, Historically Highest Monthly Revenue Business Egypt's Stock Exchange Earns EGP 4.9 Billion on Tuesday Business Wheat delivery season commences on April 15 News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results
